In the early morning, Fwoopers flickered endlessly through the trees. Sunlight filtered through the dense leaves onto the Bowtruckles' slender emerald-green faces, while the mist gradually dispersed.
A golden young Unicorn, gleaming like gold, drank by the lake under the watchful care of a tall, sacred adult Unicorn, its body white as moonlight made flesh. Every now and then, it nudged the Rainbowfish blowing bubbles on the lake's surface with its nose.
In the grass, Goblins resembling animated potatoes cautiously observed the Unicorns.
Not far away, Bane the Centaur was teaching young Centaurs to identify medicinal herbs. Usually hot-tempered, he was exceptionally patient when instructing the foals.
Thestrals gathered around Hagrid, snorting affectionately as they occasionally picked up bloody chunks of raw meat from the bucket he had brought. Fang shuddered a few times and twitched his nose, but kept far away from the Thestrals.
Not far from Hagrid's Hut, several Hippogriffs blinked their bright orange eyes, then haughtily turned their heads away with looks of utter disdain.
This was morning in the Forbidden Forest. Ryan, appearing here in the form of a phoenix, curiously studied Hagrid with his narrow phoenix eyes.
Race: Wizard/Giant Strength: 30 (the limit for an ordinary person is 10) Constitution: 34 (the limit for an ordinary person is 10) Magic Power: 25 (the limit for an ordinary person is 10) Skills: Animal Affinity lv.3 (22%), Taming lv.5 (43%), Charmcraft lv.4 (49%) Potion-Making lv.3 (44%), Transfiguration lv.3 (14%), Care of Magical Creatures lv.5 (67%).
What terrifying stats. His magic power was no lower than the average adult wizard's, while his strength and constitution far surpassed Ryan's current abilities. If Hagrid had a little more sense and ambition, ordinary wizards would be utterly helpless against him.
But in the original timeline, he had even gone to Azkaban without resisting, all to avoid causing Dumbledore trouble. What a waste of such excellent potential in both magic and martial ability.
Taming lv.5? Was that why he could cross a Manticore with Fire Crabs and produce Blast-Ended Skrewts?
Animal Affinity lv.3? Was that what Stone Hagrid, known as the Monster King in Ancient Greece, had relied upon?
Recently, Ryan had often transformed into a phoenix during his free time and come to Hogwarts to explore. He visited every place that ordinary students dared not linger near.
During yesterday's after-dinner reading time, Ryan had found several short tales in Ancient Greece: Things You Don't Know. Each mentioned, to a greater or lesser extent, the Monster Kingdom—a mysterious kingdom composed of rare, dangerous, and powerful magical creatures rated above 4X, such as Grumplumps, Giants, Centaurs, Thestrals, Chimeras, and Catalonian Fireball Dragons.
Some travelers had learned from magical creatures capable of communication, such as Giants, that their entire kingdom had been sustained by one man: Hagrid, the Monster King.
Of course, Giants did not call him the Monster King.
He was known as Rain-Bringer Stone Hagrid I of the Hagrid family, Hercules, King of the Forbidden Forest, Controller of Giant Creatures, Mentor in the Dark Forest, Liberator, and Dragon Lord.
This glorious kingdom had been hidden deep within the Forbidden Forest. In the end, it collapsed and declined amid warfare between Hagrids, along with the fact that many of its creatures were natural predators of one another and could not communicate. Other than a few travel journals no one believed, no trace of it remained.
The author of one such journal was William Smith, Ryan's ancestor.
It described in detail that great kingdom located in Scotland's Dark Forest. Under Hagrid's leadership, magical creatures no longer preyed upon one another. Instead, they fed on non-sentient creatures such as cattle, sheep, ferrets, mice, and fish. They raised livestock and cultivated crops, achieving an unprecedented harmony while resisting the influence of outside wizards.
William Smith wrote that even in his old age, he still remembered that magnificent kingdom—especially the annual celebration on November 11, Hagrid's birthday.
Under the bright moonlight, Mooncalves danced gracefully, Augureys sang with clear birdsong, and Catalonian Fireball Dragons flew across the sky, breathing flames that burst overhead through special techniques. Kelpies sprayed jets of water to extinguish any unnoticed sparks.
Ryan was greatly surprised. Hogwarts was in Scotland—could this forest be the Forbidden Forest? Was Hagrid the same Hagrid as Rubeus Hagrid?
Legend said that Hagrids possessed magic capable of restoring clarity to cruel and violent magical creatures. They could also see the beauty in all things. Among several dragons that appeared nearly identical, they could always identify the most beautiful one. This beauty was not what ordinary people considered beautiful, but what dragons of the same species considered beautiful.
If Hagrid truly was a Hagrid, then it was no wonder Hagrid's father had fallen in love with a Giant.
Their bloodline naturally possessed such an aesthetic sense. Besides, Giants themselves resembled humans. They had not originally been brutish, and had once possessed a great civilization of their own.
The reason Hagrids could control magical creatures was also related to the origins of magical creatures. One theory claimed that all magical creatures were the products of wizards whose transformations or experiments had failed.
Most wizards transformed into magical creatures lost their sanity. Yet under some strange psychological impulse, unlike werewolves, they passed their condition only to blood relatives and became stable populations.
It was only a hypothesis, but the most conclusive evidence for it came from Quintapeds.
Quintapeds lived only on Dread Isle, at the northernmost edge of Scotland. Because they liked eating humans and were hostile toward them, the island had been enchanted so that it could not be marked on maps.
They originated from Clan MacBoon of Dread Isle.
There were two wizarding families on the island: Clan MacBoon and Clan MacLiver. They had been sworn enemies for generations.
Once, the leaders of the two wizarding families, Dugald McLiver and Quintius MacBoon, held a wizard duel after drinking. Dugald McLiver was killed.
Driven by hatred, the members of Clan MacLiver attacked Clan MacBoon and jointly cast a group spell similar to a blood curse. Every member of Clan MacBoon was transformed into a Quintaped, an unprecedented creature covered in thick reddish-brown fur, with a malformed foot at the end of each leg.
However, Clan MacLiver soon realized that although the MacBoons were clumsy with magic, the monsters they had become were extremely dangerous.
The MacLivers desperately tried again and again to turn the MacBoons back, but failed every time.
In the end, the Quintapeds transformed from the MacBoons killed every member of Clan MacLiver on the island.
The Clan MacLiver wizards transformed into Quintapeds could not speak, yet they firmly resisted every attempt by the Department for the Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures to restore them to their original forms.
As for the Hagrids, their peculiar magic could awaken the rational and kind side of magical creatures, restoring order to the chaotic minds of wizards transformed into magical creatures.
Like Aragog, whom Hagrid had raised. As an Acromantula, he was logical, able to speak clearly in full sentences, and kept his promise not to eat people.
If Hagrid had not found him a wife who had not been raised by him, and then failed to tame every spider Aragog could reach afterward, Harry and Ron would never have nearly been eaten in the end.
Out of curiosity, the ever-energetic Ryan had rushed to Hagrid's Hut beside the Forbidden Forest early in the morning to observe in secret.
