Seeing the black Flying Slash hurtling straight toward him, Bal sneered inside the Command Ship. He had known these natives, who had never witnessed true power, would not submit so easily. But the warship's defenses were not so easily broken.
Sure enough, just as Chihane's Flying Slash was about to strike the Command Ship, a translucent protective membrane suddenly lit up over its hull.
Could that thin membrane withstand Chihane's hundred-meter-wide slash?
Of course, Bal had complete confidence in it. Though the shield looked thin, it was actually connected to the entire ship's energy supply. Unless an attack exceeded its limits and shattered it on contact, the ship's power would keep the shield intact.
This defense could withstand a Planet-Busting Cannon. It was hardly fragile. Even Bal himself would have to expend considerable effort to break it.

But something happened that Bal had not expected. The instant Chihane's Flying Slash struck the shield, it did not dissipate as Bal had imagined. Instead, it pressed against the shield in a stalemate, producing a piercing screech.
Before that slash could fade, a second Flying Slash shot up from the ground, striking the exact same spot before anyone could react.

This time, the translucent shield could no longer withstand Chihane's slash so easily. Weblike cracks gradually spread across it. Though it looked ready to shatter at any moment, it still firmly blocked his attack, slowly repairing itself with the energy supplied to it.
