Zhu Jie realized that even Si Lin was looking at her with open hostility now.
She gritted her teeth, even more determined not to admit anything. She refused to believe that losing a single item would truly leave them unable to get out.
That thought bolstered her confidence. She turned a venomous glare on Wei Xin and snapped, "Weren't you the first one in here? Perhaps you took it yourself and are trying to pin the blame on me."
"Who am I? The eldest young lady of the Zhu Household! Would I lack a Magic Treasure or two? You're the penniless Rogue Cultivator here. Who are you trying to fool? If you're going to frame someone, at least choose a plausible target."
Zhu Jie's words enraged Wei Xin so much that her eyes reddened.
A trace of impatience showed in Su Jiu's eyes. She merely asked coolly, "Are you sure you won't hand it over?" She did not specify whom she meant.
Yet Zhu Jie felt certain Su Jiu meant her. At this point, however, how could she admit it? Coveting a Magic Treasure was far too humiliating. She refused to believe Su Jiu would actually search her Storage Bag.
Su Jiu nodded, indicating that she understood.
Chu Luohen stood to one side, unconcerned. Apart from Su Jiu, he scarcely spared anyone a glance. Jin Chen also trusted Su Jiu completely. From what he knew of her, if she had said that, she must have a solution.
Si Lin's expression was unreadable as his gaze shifted between Wei Xin and Zhu Jie.
In truth, Zhu Jie's words were not entirely unreasonable. Wei Xin's actions did look more like an attempt to clear herself by finding someone else to take the blame. Of course, Zhu Jie was no good person either.
