Background / History

Childhood and allegiance to El

Huo Yutong grew up with her mother, Huo Yun’er, in the White Tiger Duke’s Mansion. She suffered bullying, physical abuse, and malnutrition. Their courtyard lacked winter heating even when servants’ rooms had it, and her mother struggled to keep her warm. Dai Huabin’s involvement in Huo Yun’er’s death became the central grievance driving her revenge 2 9 16 46.

El offered her power, a path to godhood, revenge, and her mother’s resurrection in exchange for obedience and support against his enemies. She accepted and came to regard him as her rescuing “angel.” Her first reward was Tian Meng’s million-year soul ring 2.

For travel and enrollment, El devised a cover story: they were distant cousins from a dwindling secluded family near Dragon City, with Huo Yutong connected through her mother’s bloodline. Her supposed rank-above-twenty cultivation was initially a disguise supported by Simulation and El’s soul-power-storing reverse scale—not her actual rank 3 4.

Physical restoration and dragon inheritance

After enrolling at Shrek with Di Tian’s recommendation letter, Huo Yutong accompanied El on three months of approved leave, ostensibly to honor their ancestors and undergo an awakening. They instead entered the Great Ferocious Land, where she met El’s soul-beast allies and befriended Di Ruiqiu 8 9.

Bi Ji restored her foundations through a medicinal bath enriched with essence blood. Despite extreme pain, Huo Yutong rejected Tian Meng’s offer to bear her sensations and insisted on controlling her own body. The treatment removed her old scars, restored her health, and brought her to rank seventeen 11 12.

At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, El identified her as the continent’s Daughter of Destiny and proposed making her the Ice Dragon King’s successor. The Water Dragon King accepted her as both heir and daughter. Huo Yutong’s embrace and cry of “Mom” marked the beginning of their adoptive bond 16.

After absorbing immortal herbs, she fused with the divine torso bone and dragon soul. A hidden fragment of divine authority nearly destroyed her, forcing El to intervene at considerable personal cost. The successful inheritance transformed her appearance and granted her second martial soul, but did not make her a god 17 18 19.

Shrek and the Freshman Assessment

Huo Yutong returned to Shrek and entered Freshman Class One. El explained her changed appearance as a martial soul second awakening. When Zhou Yi insulted her in her absence, El challenged the teacher; Huo Yutong hurried to watch, prepared to use her soul skill if he fell into danger 22 24 25.

She teamed up with Xiao Xiao and Wang Dong for the Freshman Assessment. Their early matches ended rapidly, but the Lan sisters’ Heavenly Net forced her to reveal Fear Boiling. She later exposed her Ice Dragon King martial soul to defeat Xie Huanyue, prompting his teammates to surrender 38 39 40 42 43.

In the semifinal, she persuaded her teammates to let her face Dai Huabin’s team alone. After overcoming the Hell White Tiger, she froze and shattered Dai Huabin’s cultivation meridians while deliberately sparing his internal organs. His subsequent insults toward her mother provoked a further kick that inflicted life-threatening injuries; El healed him sufficiently to keep him alive 45 46.

She reached the final against El but refused to surrender despite being outmatched. The Water Dragon King took control of her body and nearly tripped him out of the arena, only for El to reveal his second martial soul and pull her off the platform instead. El won the championship 48 49.

Continued training

Huo Yutong received a Secret Art Soul bone reward for allocation with her teammates, though it was subsequently traded rather than absorbed by her. She continued the Water Dragon King’s special training, lent Xiao Xiao her notes, and supervised El’s overdue schoolwork 50 53 55 60.

El later discovered that Heaven’s Will had influenced her and the Water Dragon King during the assessment. He reassured her that she was not responsible, while the Origin God provided protection against that influence 67.

Yan Shaozhe also sent her to assist Ma Xiaotao in the Inner Court. Afterward, she reported that Ma Xiaotao had reached level sixty-eight and was approaching her Soul Saint breakthrough 72.

Personality

Huo Yutong initially behaves timidly and apologizes readily. Her attachment to El is rooted in the safety he provides after a childhood with very little kindness: she recognizes her dependence on him but does not wish to relinquish it. El encourages her to regard herself as his companion rather than a tool bound by their contract 4 12 17.

Her determination is considerably stronger than her hesitant manner suggests. She willingly endures bodily reconstruction and a dangerous divine inheritance for her mother, revenge, and the ability to help El. In combat, she can remain composed enough to direct teammates and protect them while under pressure 10 11 18 39 42.

Toward Dai Huabin, she is deliberate and merciless. She rejects a quick killing as too easy a release and avoids openly murdering him partly because it would harm El’s plans. Crippling his cultivation brings relief rather than the ecstatic satisfaction she had imagined 43 46.

Her affection for El also produces jealousy and possessiveness. She tells Xiao Xiao they are not a couple “yet,” watches other girls’ interest in him closely, and pulls Xiao Xiao away after a hug. The Water Dragon King actively encourages this competitive attitude and teaches her to view strength as the foundation of romantic security 32 34 53 55.
