The players turned blankly toward the sound.
Bo Yi stood right by the card slot, reaching out to retrieve the points card it had ejected. When he caught the others staring at him, he coolly raised an eyebrow, questioning their looks.
"You... how did you..." How did you open the door?
The players stared blankly at the nearby Safe House. Its door, which had seemed like an insurmountable barrier to them, slowly opened.
The slightly sharper players looked at the red points card in Bo Yi's hand, which he had yet to put back in his pocket. Realization immediately dawned on one player's face. "So that's... that's how it works..."
Points! It was the points!
The points actually had this use, too!
But alongside that realization came endless regret. He had been one of the players who mocked Bo Yi and the others during the day for risking their lives to try rides whose rules they knew nothing about. The more pleasure he had taken in mocking them then, the more bitterly he regretted it now.
Had he known that going on the rides earned points, and that those points could open the Safe Houses at night, he would have swallowed his pride and tagged along, no matter what!
But there was no cure for regret-the rides were no longer operating. In other words, although he now knew how to open a Safe House, he could only stare helplessly at that "solution," unable to put it into practice.
As though determined to make him regret it even more, the dozen or so other players who had earned points found vacant Safe Houses and inserted their cards to open the doors. Each Safe House could hold around two or three people, making it convenient for players with teammates to stay together.
