After the Barov Family offered Caer Darrow to the Scourge, Kel'Thuzad converted its cellars into an academy of necromancy and named it Scholomance.

Ras Frostwhisper and Darkmaster Gandling jointly ran the academy, training and teaching students of the Cult of the Damned and undead sorcerers.

As for the unfortunate Barov Family, aside from two heirs who escaped, everyone else was killed by the Scourge and likewise raised as undead.

So when players ran the Scholomance dungeon in the game, they faced not only its original owners-the members of the Barov Family-but also numerous "guests"-the Scourge's administrators.
