Childhood and Adoption

A beast tide killed Xiao Yi Xian's parents and destroyed Qingshan Town when she was seven. She subsequently drifted from place to place without a personal name. After learning medical skills, she survived by joining a mercenary group in Qingshan Town, where traveling mercenaries gave her the title “Xiao Yi Xian” 8 23.

About a year before meeting Xiao Yan, she encountered a supposedly “severely injured” Hun Tiandi while gathering herbs in the mountains. The account describes her “curing” him with conspicuously qualified praise of her medical ability. He adopted her as his foster daughter and named her Hun Xian'er 8.

Hun Tiandi became the first person she remembered treating her kindly. When he arranged an apprenticeship under Yao Chen, she came to regard him fully as her own father 9.

The Poison Immortal's Reputation

The Myriad Medicine Pavilion Master repeatedly harbored sinister intentions toward her. After advancing to Dou Shi, she poisoned his food in retaliation. He unexpectedly gave the meal to his subordinates, killing more than thirty of them instead 24.

She then tried to kill him directly, but Qingshan Town's chief intervened. She nevertheless beat him nearly to death, including several heavy blows to the head. These events earned her the feared title “Poison Immortal”; on her return three months later, a mercenary fled at the sight of her 24.

Appearance

Xiao Yi Xian has an exquisite face and a youthful appearance contrasted with mature conduct. Xiao Yan compares her presence to an orchid in a secluded valley and later finds her moonlit appearance fairy-like 8 28.

Personality

Xiao Yi Xian is playful, self-assured, and fond of provoking Xiao Yan. She insists on being called his senior sister, uses a Bewitching Technique to fluster him, and deliberately gives Xiao Xun'er an ambiguous explanation of their sleeping arrangements. She is also proud of her beauty and of the medical title bestowed by Qingshan Town's mercenaries 8 9 15 28.

Her teasing coexists with practical compassion. She purchases Qing Lin out of pity, feeds her, teaches her cultivation, and later sends her away from the Jia Ma Empire because remaining there is dangerous. After witnessing Xiao Yan's apparent death, she seeks Hun Tiandi's help to revive him 13 15 40 44.

Becoming an alchemist is a deeply held ambition. She reverently accepts Yao Chen as her teacher and chooses alchemy lessons over accompanying Hun Tiandi back to the Soul Realm. The discovery that her own Dou Qi cannot safely refine ordinary medicine leaves her anxious and eager to find another flame source 9 22.

She is not indiscriminately accepting of violence: she initially questions whether Xiao Yan intends to kill strangers for treasure, relaxing only after he explains the Jia Lie Family's feud with his clan. Against the Pavilion Master who threatened her, however, she uses lethal poison and severe physical retaliation 11 24.
