Background / History

Wei Yuan awakened the Legendary Astral Soul Master class at eighteen. During twenty years of military service, he fought monsters and demons and became the strongest person in East China. After entering a wager agreement with the Yagu Dynasty, he stepped back from frontline activity to develop the region’s military and economy 6.

During the campaign to reclaim Dingcheng, Great Xia abandoned twelve defensive lines and redirected its forces against the Yagu Dynasty and its royal clan. Wei Yuan killed three royal Dragonkin before the two sides reached a peace agreement returning Dingcheng to Great Xia, though the city remained shared with the dynasty. He explicitly rejected Wan Jiang’s embellished claim that he had killed three hundred royal Dragonkin 9.

Conservative Faction

Wei Yuan’s reluctance to initiate wars stemmed chiefly from Great Xia’s depleted resources and uncertain succession, rather than unquestioning faith in the Savior prophecy. He believed the country could not afford prolonged wars that he lacked the strength to end alone. Yi Tian’s ability to produce powerful new Classholders changed that calculation and restored his confidence in Great Xia’s future 59.

Alternate Lives

In the earlier lives recounted by Lu Xinghe, Wei Yuan volunteered as bait for the White Emperor’s Eternal Spear. He died buying enough time for the surviving fighters to kill the White Emperor, but the World Tree subsequently revived the Yagu emperors. This death belongs to those previous lives, not the main timeline 167 174.

Appearance

  • Face: Refined and reserved, with an expression described as unshakably composed during a Demon Tide 30.
  • Clothing: Wears robes, explicitly described as green when he leads the East China Army through the Otherworld Passage 152.
  • Power effects: Faint starlight surrounds him while he hovers above the border; high-speed flight can turn him into a streak of azure light 6 30.

Personality

Wei Yuan is usually calm, approachable, and deliberate. He speaks warmly to young talents, personally drives Yi Tian and Wan Jiang, and readily uses his authority to help promising people. His displeasure at Wan Jiang’s treatment as a perpetual trainee reflects his belief that potential should not be wasted because of an unfortunate class awakening 6 7 9.

His support does not mean overriding others’ choices. He accepts Jiang Che’s decision to pursue exploration rather than military service and respects Yi Tian’s wish to enter the medium secret realm with his own team, despite worrying about their low levels. He repeatedly prioritizes their survival over immediate achievements 16 22 24.

Although administrative burdens made him increasingly serious, his earlier playfulness resurfaces as East China’s prospects improve. He enjoys needling the Crimson Emperor, tolerates Ling Luo’s criticism without retaliation, and openly admits when Ye Xiu surpasses his younger self’s tactical understanding 29 33 50 79.

Abilities & Skills

Astral Soul Master

  • Manipulates stellar and astral spirit power for ranged attacks, barriers, and battlefield control 8 26 59.
  • Condenses starlight into eight explosive spheres; the Crimson Emperor blocks these with a wing, sustaining only faint bruises 26.
  • At full strength, turns the daytime sky into a starry night and forms a massive stellar spear to strike the Crimson Emperor 59.
  • Maintains distance and applies control effects to prevent the Crimson Emperor from exploiting his superior close-range strength 59.
  • Limitation: His spellcasting class is physically vulnerable. The Crimson Emperor’s dragon form would be lethal if allowed to close the gap 59 79.

Astral Net

  • Summons chains of starlight capable of binding multiple targets simultaneously 15.
  • Immobilizes, silences, disarms, drains strength, and eventually renders the Crimson Emperor Dragon Envoy and six companions unconscious 15.
  • Prevents the captured envoy from transmitting intelligence about Great Xia’s new Legendary Classholders 15 16.
  • Identified as the Astral Soul Master’s strongest crowd-control skill; opponents of the same tier cannot resist once caught 79.
  • His youthful projection reshapes the net into a giant grasping hand, but Ye Xiu evades it before capture 79.

Astral Spirit Barrier and Concealment

  • Creates a starry meeting-room barrier providing both concealment and defense 8.
  • Conceals class-awakening light; when Ye Xiu’s God-Tier awakening threatens to break through, Wei Yuan adds three more barriers 20 21.
  • His youthful projection uses Astral Spirit Barrier to resist lightning attacks and prevent Ye Xiu from locking onto him 79.
  • Protects his companions inside the World Tree’s life-draining root cage, though the group still struggles to survive 153.

Flight and Tactical Misdirection

  • Flies several times faster than his official car, reaching Ji Changlin’s office less than a minute after their call ends 6.
  • Uses a barrier as a decoy while concealing a change of position, making his youthful projection’s movement initially resemble teleportation 79.
  • Ye Xiu later copies this shield-and-misdirection tactic against an elven opponent 80.
  • Military and national responsibilities prevented Wei Yuan from returning to Starfield Glory after his youthful attempt 78.

Administration, Intelligence, and Specialized Knowledge

  • Oversees East China’s twelve major cities and directs military readiness, troop movements, and resource development 7 30 117 152.
  • Mobilizes schools, military personnel, the Classholder Guild, logistics departments, and smiths to support talent recruitment and equipment production 6 16 22 49.
  • Uses high spiritual power to sense changes in class and class quality, without necessarily uncovering a Legendary class’s specific abilities 15.
  • Explains Scholars, Ancient Ruins, Dragon Race Word Spirits, and Starfield Glory’s matchmaking rules to Yi Tian 34 55 78.
  • Understands the Ghost Race’s language, allowing him to question its representatives directly 104 105.

Equipment / Weapons / Items

Personal and Official Resources

  • Encrypted satellite phone — Reserved for headquarters leaders and a few old comrades; used to receive Ji Changlin’s report and order Yi Tian’s records sealed at the highest clearance level 6 8.
  • Everyday phone — Used alongside his secure communications device 6.
  • Full equipment set — Included in the later assessment placing his average attributes around 3,000; individual pieces are not identified 192.
  • Dueling Contract — Signed with the Crimson Emperor before the Race Championship. Its backlash punishes the emperor for refusing to honor the wager; this punishment is the contract’s effect, not Wei Yuan’s own attack 59.

Aid Provided or Arranged for Yi Tian’s Group

  • Protected apartment — Arranges Unit 502 at Green Mountain Apartments, equipped with a defensive barrier and one-button support call. He relocates from Xingcheng to nearby Qingcheng to act as Yi Tian’s guardian 10 22.
  • Epic Barrier Spheres and Concealment Rings — Supplies portable awakening concealment and three rings that prevent detection of class quality 9 21.
  • Legendary Heavenly Wolf Set — Gives Yi Tian a complete five-piece armor set 22.
  • Legendary Deathmatch Prison — Provides an item that prevents anyone from leaving its created space by any means unless its holder dies 29.
  • Dragon Soul necklace and Blood Dragon Bane ring — Arranges accessory forging from Yi Tian’s dragon marrow crystals; delivers the necklace to Yi Tian and the ring to Alice 49 53.
  • Forbidden artifact [003] — Brings the black cat to Yi Tian after discussing the Savior prophecy and its possible connection to him 54 65.

Relationships

  • Yi Tian — Initially evaluates his claims, then becomes his protector and principal government partner. Witnessing Wan Jiang’s awakening prompts him to secure Yi Tian’s records; he later entrusts him with contestant selection and increasingly treats their cooperation as a partnership 6 8 22 29 50.
  • Ji Changlin — Former squad leader and trusted old comrade. His encrypted call brings Wei Yuan to Yi Tian’s school 6.
  • Wan Jiang — An admirer whom Wei Yuan defends against unfair employment treatment and places in the Vanguard Regiment. Later proposes him for East China’s military leadership, beginning with promotion to deputy commander 7 9 368 369.
  • Bai Qiu Li — Recognizes her swordsmanship potential, promises priority educational support, and regards her as a possible Race Championship ace. Witnesses her promotion to a God-Tier class 6 36 37.
  • Ye Xiu — Conceals his God-Tier awakening and grants access to skillbooks. Hopes Ye Xiu will defeat his youthful projection and acknowledges his superior understanding of tactics after the victory 21 22 78 79.
  • Ling Luo — Comrade of more than a decade whose opposition to his Conservative Faction stance drives them apart. Despite her hostility, they continue cooperating in major battles 33 59 153.
  • Zhou Yuan — Fellow regional leader and military ally. Tries to limit his lifespan-consuming combat, mourns his death, and later teases him after his resurrection while remaining concerned about his condition 60 152 245 368 379.
  • Jiang Yuan Shuang — Fellow combatant and administrator. Discusses his trust in Yi Tian with her and later agrees to help her govern North China during its leadership transition 53 54 59 368.
  • Crimson Emperor — Longstanding military and diplomatic adversary. Their earlier fight ended without a victor; Wei Yuan later fights him again after the Race Championship and expels the Yagu Dynasty from Dingcheng 15 59.

Trivia

  • Yi Tian’s résumé inspection lists Legendary Chess Sage as a possible investment opportunity for Wei Yuan, costing twenty funding points. Yi Tian does not pursue it because investment would erase Wei Yuan’s existing level-74 class 6.
  • His Starfield Glory opponent is a projection with combat instincts, not the present-day Wei Yuan personally fighting Ye Xiu 78 79.
  • Wei Yuan corrects exaggerated stories about his exploits rather than accepting the praise: the Dingcheng campaign involved three royal Dragonkin kills, not three hundred 9.
