Background / History

Awakening and Recruitment

Su Xun arrives in the world of Douluo’s third era with memories of a previous life and knowledge of the original timeline. Before awakening his martial soul, he lives in an orphanage and lacks adequate nutrition. His free awakening at six draws the Spirit Pagoda’s attention through the mistaken identification of his martial soul as Spiritual Eyes 1 2.

He initially hopes to study under Han Tianyi, whose Body Sect connections could provide access to a body martial soul’s second awakening. Instead, Leng Yaozhu recruits him. She recognizes that his martial soul is not Spiritual Eyes but values his innate full soul power and potential to support the Leng family’s next generation 1.

A Home at Spirit Pagoda Headquarters

Leng Yaozhu gives Su Xun a home on her private hundredth floor and asks him to regard her as family. After sensing both her sincerity and loneliness, he promises to keep her company. Her instruction combines medicinal baths, physical conditioning, close combat, deportment, and soul power cultivation 7 8 9.

A night-market accident introduces him to Na’er: he knocks her down and scatters her skewers, then promises compensation. When she asks to accompany him, he agrees to take her in. He subsequently handles her daily care, prepares her room, and helps select her Thorn Dragon soul spirit 10 11 13 14.

Three Years of Training

Su Xun studies spiritual power under Han Tianyi on Mondays and Fridays while continuing Leng Yaozhu’s training. He also studies forging under Jin Yue, learns mecha design, and occasionally attends Han Tianyi’s repair lessons with Na’er 17 22 32 46.

His unusual martial soul creates a prolonged cultivation bottleneck: Night Owl cannot supply a second ring, and suitable soul spirits are scarce. Leng Yaozhu refuses to let him settle for an inferior match. Na’er eventually gives him an Evil Eye Tyrant’s external soul bone, and Leng Yaozhu locates the Black-and-White Bear that activates his Body Root 22 24 25.

Forging and the Body Sect

After Su Xun achieves Spirit Forging, Jin Yue acknowledges that he has taught him everything he can. Leng Yaozhu orders his forging talent kept secret. A later demonstration before Zhen Hua produces flawless Spirit Forging with spiritual radiance rising fourteen feet above the metal 33 36.

Zhen Hua offers to make him a Divine Craftsman before twenty-five and eventually pass him the Blacksmith Association presidency. Su Xun declines to make forging his sole pursuit, explaining that being a Soul Master comes first 36 37.

Mu Ye agrees to teach him the Body Secret Art after examining the Six Desires Immortal and receiving Su Xun’s promise to help the Body Sect without violating his principles. Mu Ye and Han Tianyi determine that his second awakening will require multiple root-specific trials, potentially followed by another comprehensive trial once all six roots are active 38 40.

Gu Yue’s Arrival

Su Xun recognizes that Gu Yue’s arrival at the Spirit Pagoda is connected to Na’er’s growing independence. Gu Yue challenges him for the right to become Leng Yaozhu’s disciple, but Leng Yaozhu maintains that Su Xun is her only disciple while allowing Gu Yue to train with them 42 45.

Su Xun becomes responsible for Gu Yue’s room arrangements and, alongside Leng Yaozhu’s supervision, the girls’ training. Their rivalry repeatedly puts him in the position of caretaker or reluctant referee. His planned eye-root awakening is postponed while Han Tianyi is away; when Han returns, Su Xun immediately answers his summons 43 44 45 46 50.

Appearance

Su Xun initially appears as a thin, undernourished boy. Activating his Body Root produces rapid physical growth; despite his young age, he soon exceeds 160 centimeters in height 1 2 31.

  • Multicolored eyes: Dazzling, illusory light appears in his eyes when his martial soul’s eye abilities are active 1 5.
  • Forehead mark: Absorbing the Evil Eye Tyrant’s external soul bone leaves a blood-red, rune-like eye mark between his brows 22.
  • Crystalline ears: His ears glow and become crystalline and translucent while fusing with the Four-Eared Macaque 28.
  • Martial soul manifestation: An ethereal Six Desires Immortal statue appears behind him when his martial soul manifests 1 3.

Personality

Su Xun values loyalty and repayment of kindness. Although Han Tianyi offers a cultivation method and access to the Body Sect, he refuses to abandon Leng Yaozhu for greater rewards. His willingness to help the Body Sect likewise comes with an explicit condition: its requests must not cross his moral bottom line 7 18 38.

He is calculating about his development without allowing prestigious offers to dictate it. He plans around his martial soul’s unusual ring requirements, pursues forging for his future battle armor, and refuses Zhen Hua’s proposal to become a full-time blacksmith 4 21 37.

His kindness often coexists with teasing. He accepts responsibility for Na’er’s care and patiently deals with her lack of self-care skills, but also exploits her enthusiasm for food to redirect arguments. With Gu Yue, his teasing becomes more provocative, though he obeys Leng Yaozhu when ordered to stop tormenting her 13 14 31 43 44.

Abilities & Skills

Six Desires Immortal

A single body martial soul formed by the convergence of the six roots—eyes, ears, nose, tongue, body, and mind—rather than six separate martial souls 1.

  • Spiritual emphasis: Its strongest initial root is the eye root, while its overall nature favors spiritual power 2.
  • Physical foundation: Even before Body Root activation, his constitution is comparable to strength-type beast martial soul users, though initially hindered by poor nutrition 2.
  • Root-specific development: Su Xun concludes that he should obtain one compatible soul spirit for each of his first six rings to fully develop the martial soul 4.
  • Moral danger: Han Tianyi warns that wielding desire can lead toward either “immortal” or “demon,” depending on whether Su Xun remains true to himself 18.

Six Roots Empathy

A constantly active innate talent that senses nearby living beings’ concealed desires and emotions 5.

  • Desire corruption: Taints another being’s desires to strengthen corresponding soul skills. Consumption is low, but Su Xun suffers backlash from those desires 5.
  • Contemplative Desire Subjugation: Subjugates desires for his own use. It is more difficult and costly, but avoids desire backlash 5.
  • Mental resistance: Can render him immune to mental charm and desire-based attacks when the spiritual-power gap is not too great 5.
  • Combat use: Applies Contemplative Desire Subjugation against a Man Faced Demon Spider ambushing Na’er 16.

Six Roots Tribulation Soil

An innate domain whose scenery changes to reflect the desires of those caught within it 5.

  • Six-root erosion: Gradually erodes and seals a target’s six roots 5.
  • Delusion Seizing the Body: Can turn fully sealed targets into puppets, but requires all Six Desires Divine Beasts to be unlocked. Su Xun estimates a minimum requirement of Six-Ring Soul Emperor 5.
  • Divine Beast descent: Uses the corresponding soul spirit as a medium to summon a Six Desires Divine Beast. Its output is unknown, and its backlash can cause ruin or soul destruction 5.
  • Spiritual cost: His first manifestation exhausts his remaining spiritual power and forces him to dismiss the domain 5.

Eye Desire: Illusory Colors

His first soul skill projects dazzling light that distorts vision and presents a target’s most deeply desired fantasies 5.

  • Entrapment: Greed or attachment can imprison targets within the illusion, leaving them vulnerable 5.
  • Perception: Strengthens his ability to strip away falsehood and discern hidden desires and obsessions 5.
  • Thousand-year evolution: After Night Owl advances, the ability—also called Illusory Color Net—can perceive desires more directly, shape selected illusions, and disguise its user 17.
  • Illusion testing: Locates the real elements Han Tianyi deliberately leaves inside an illusion without activating a soul skill 18.

Body Desire: Yin-Yang Calamity

His second soul skill uses bodily desire as fuel to temper and strengthen his flesh, functioning more like a body cultivation art than a conventional attack 26.

  • Touch manipulation: Creates illusory sensations, induces comfort or numbness, and amplifies pain 26.
  • Immobilization: Sufficient erosion can immobilize a target’s body 26.
  • Physical toughness: Body Root activation strengthens his body enough to withstand the pressure of three ten-thousand-year soul rings 25.
  • Offense: Combined with Divine Dragon Qi, his physical strength allows him to kill an Ice-Fire Demon Tiger with one punch 30.

Ear Desire and Listen to the Truth

Activating his ear root grants enhanced hearing and Listen to the Truth, through which he hears concealed thoughts 28.

  • Thought perception: Reads Na’er’s unguarded thoughts clearly 28 45.
  • Guarded targets: Cannot peer into Gu Yue’s thoughts while she remains wary, despite his apparently greater spiritual power 45.
  • Auditory illusions: Ear Desire: World-Deluding Ballad contributes to the three-desire illusion used against the Ice-Fire Demon Tiger 30.

Three Desires Power

Su Xun combines eye, ear, and bodily desire to control what an opponent sees, hears, and feels 29 30.

  • Concealment: Removes himself from a Wind Baboon’s sight and hearing; the beast can still detect his unfamiliar scent 29.
  • Integrated illusions: Tactile feedback fills gaps left by visual and auditory deception, creating nearly complete desire-based illusions 30.
  • Detection: Coordinating his eyes, ears, and spiritual power produces a detection effect that can extend beyond 1,000 meters when focused in one direction 29.
  • Endurance limit: Prolonged use depletes both spiritual power and soul power 30.

Cultivation and Mental Resilience

  • Soul Regulation: Tunes soul power to resonate with natural energy and accelerate cultivation 9.
  • Black-and-White Millstone training: Han Tianyi’s method tempers spiritual power and mental resilience, increasing the number and strength of soul spirits Su Xun can bear at a given spiritual-power level 19 20.
  • Pain tolerance: Three years of spiritual training make the strain of absorbing the 15,000-year Four-Eared Macaque negligible to him 28.
  • Second awakening: Has obtained Mu Ye’s agreement to teach the Body Secret Art, but no completed second awakening is documented 38 40 46.

Forging and Mecha Knowledge

  • Creation Spirit Forging: Establishes two-way resonance with nether silver, producing a metal creation bearing traces of his power 33.
  • Material selection: Favors nether silver because its spiritual affinity suits the spiritual-power foundation of his six-desire abilities 32.
  • Mecha design: Studies design as an additional second profession 46.
  • Repair and piloting: Uses knowledge from repair lessons to support design work and guide Na’er while she pilots 22 24.
