Background / History
Han Tianyi was nurtured by the Body Sect before joining the Spirit Pagoda. Despite changing affiliations, he never abandoned his loyalty to the sect. As its membership dwindled, he and Hu Jie sought new ways to preserve its inheritance and restore its influence 6 35.
His reason for joining the Spirit Pagoda was to research defective artificial soul-spirit specimens associated with the Spirit Ascension Platform. Experiencing and studying these specimens helped him reproduce soul beasts through his spiritual combat techniques; most were recycled afterward 27.
Within the Spirit Pagoda, Han Tianyi occupies an influential position without belonging to its “one tower master, two deputies, and four Spirit Envoys.” He remains politically neutral even after becoming deeply involved in teaching Leng Yaozhu’s disciple 17 27.
Appearance
Han Tianyi is tall and broad, with an upright posture despite his age. His most conspicuous feature is his unusually large head 6.
- Large, expressive eyes: They widen dramatically when he encounters an exceptional martial soul 6 18.
- Old-fashioned clothing: He wears a long robe when taking Su Xun to Heaven Dou City 34.
- Distinctive battle armor: His silver-white helmet makes his already large head appear larger 47.
Personality
Han Tianyi is perceptive, guarded, and quick to recognize someone seeking a favor. Leng Yaozhu’s praise pleases him, but her sudden familiarity immediately makes him suspicious. He also understates Su Xun’s aptitude as merely “passable” while privately recognizing an ideal inheritor for his techniques 6 19.
His loyalty to the Body Sect is tempered by pragmatism. Rather than insisting that promising students abandon their existing teachers, he advocates an academy model that can transmit the sect’s arts through cooperation. He urges Mu Ye to place the sect’s survival above old prejudices about affiliation 7 35 38.
As a mentor, he is demanding but affectionate. He subjects Su Xun to exhausting training, warmly follows his progress, and prioritizes the boy’s cultivation over the prestige of becoming a full-time blacksmith. He is also cautious about danger, initially threatening to abandon the herb expedition when Mu Ye cannot verify the rumored Guardian Dragon’s strength 20 27 35 36 47.
Abilities & Skills
Brain Martial Soul and Spiritual Power
His Brain martial soul places his spiritual power among the highest in the Spirit Pagoda and across the Three Continents; Yun Ming is suggested as perhaps the only person who surpasses him 1.
- Detects unusual martial-soul properties and correctly identifies Su Xun’s six desires roots 18.
- Shares perceptions with allies and observes distant events through spiritual power 48 50.
- Instantly stuns six Immortal Herb beings with Ferocious Beast abilities, none of whose cultivation has reached two hundred thousand years 48.
- Shapes spiritual power into invisible steel nails to jolt the drunken Mu Ye’s Sea of Consciousness 38.
- Forms invisible defenses against the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well’s corrosive poisonous miasma 47.
Mirror Flowers and Moon on Water
Mirror Flowers and Moon on Water is his self-created spiritual cultivation and combat method. It combines his martial soul, soul skills, and thought concretization to project illusions into reality 19 47.
- Manifests soul beasts through spiritual power to fight on his behalf 19 27.
- Creates convincing environments, including the lake and island used as his teaching space 6 18.
- Produces tangible harm: blood from a manifested whale burns Su Xun’s skin, and the burns remain after the blood disappears 19.
- Serves as the basis of both his offense and defense 47.
- Requires thought concretization for its full qualitative leap; before that stage, he can teach Su Xun to give desire-born illusions a measure of offensive power 19.
Illusion and Concealment
Han Tianyi uses spiritual power to hide people, alter appearances, and isolate events from outside observation 47 48.
- Conceals himself and Mu Ye from sight and ordinary spiritual scans; an observer in the middle or late Spirit Domain Realm might still notice them 47.
- Masks tunneling disturbances and moves rocks back into place to conceal their entrance 46 47.
- Changes Mu Ye’s apparent appearance during the herb raid 48.
- Creates an illusory prison that preserves the surroundings’ normal appearance while preventing monitoring devices from detecting the confrontation inside 48.
Spiritual-Power Instruction
His training emphasizes mental resilience, improving spiritual power while increasing how much strain a soul master can withstand at the same spiritual level 19.
- Uses a Black-and-White Millstone in Su Xun’s training, leaving him exhausted afterward 20.
- Prepares Su Xun to support multiple powerful soul spirits rather than relying solely on general compatibility standards 27.
- Teaches two ways to separate soul-spirit contract imprints: compartmentalizing them in the Sea of Consciousness or transferring them to a soul bone 28.
- Recommends Su Xun’s Evil Eye Tyrant’s Eye as a suitable soul-bone receptacle 28.
- Designs years of mental-resilience training to stimulate the Eye Root’s second awakening 41.
Body Martial Soul Expertise
His Body Sect background gives him specialized knowledge of body martial souls, including rare cases intertwined with other attributes 19.
- Recognizes that the Six Desires Immortal approaches the sect’s theoretical supreme body martial soul 18.
- Warns that its desire-based power carries the risk of becoming demonic if Su Xun loses his principles 18.
- Knows the Body Secret Art but does not teach it to Su Xun without Mu Ye’s authorization 38 40.
- Takes responsibility for Su Xun’s Eye Root second awakening 40.
Mecha Repair
- Rank-nine mecha repairer: Teaches Na’er mecha repair on Monday and Friday mornings 22.
- Divided attention: Creates a separate classroom for Na’er while simultaneously instructing Su Xun 22.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Phantom Cosmos Tianyi: A silver-white helmet constituting his entire Four-Word Battle Armor. It contains a complete armor set’s worth of Soul Guidance Arrays, all devoted to amplifying spiritual power 47.
- Black Brain Mecha: An unconventional black-grade mecha shaped like an enormous head. He uses it to transport Su Xun; upgrading it is less important to him than reaching Limit Douluo 34 35.
- Full Moon Wearing Autumn Dew: Receives this Immortal-Grade herb from Mu Ye for Su Xun after the raid. Mu Ye expects it may also provide a hundred-thousand-year head soul bone 50.
- Primordial Immortal Herb: Also brought back for Su Xun; according to Mu Ye’s records, it can refine soul power and aid soul-core condensation 50.
Relationships
- Su Xun — Student and intended inheritor of his spiritual techniques. Su Xun refuses to abandon Leng Yaozhu but comes to regard Han Tianyi as a beloved teacher while retaining the address “Elder Han” 18 27 38.
- Leng Yaozhu — Fellow Spirit Pagoda powerhouse and partner in Su Xun’s education. Their arrangement serves both her disciple’s development and Han Tianyi’s hopes for the Body Sect, without formally drawing him into the Leng Family’s faction 7 27 35.
- Mu Ye — Martial nephew and current Body Sect master. Han Tianyi challenges his sectarian thinking, helps secure instruction for Su Xun, and joins his Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well expedition 37 38 46.
- Na’er — Mecha-repair student. He teaches her alongside Su Xun through a separate classroom 22.
- Zhen Hua — Acquaintance through Mu Ye. Han Tianyi introduces Su Xun to him and supports forging guidance while opposing a career that would displace Su Xun’s cultivation 35 36 37.
- Hu Jie — Fellow Body Sect alumnus seeking new possibilities for the declining sect 35.
- Huo Yuhao — A figure Han Tianyi once revered and aspired to emulate. Mu Ye’s account of the Body Sect’s lost inheritance unsettles him, though he stresses concentrating on the future rather than dwelling on the past 40.
