Vol. 4The Fleet’s New Home

Humanity left Proxima b for Ross 2, bargained with the wounded Hua, and defeated the Lator Fleet before continuing to Gliese 555. The fleet reached Dawn Star, where widespread hematite halted construction as researchers investigated whether the planet once had oxygen.

  • Hong Qiming became Head Councillor, and Lü Yongchang and Mo Zeyang developed increasingly advanced computers while humanity expanded on Proxima b.
  • Lü Yongchang led humanity’s migration to Ross 2, where researchers found single-celled organisms and began building Central City.
  • Lü Yongchang accepted Hua’s bargain for technology and fragments, and Hua vanished after humanity departed Ross 154.
  • Decades later, Lü Yongchang awoke to examine a damaged square probe whose black box seemed more advanced than its shell.
  • The Human Fleet defeated the Little Gray Men using Two-Dimensional Fragments, and the surviving Lator captains surrendered.
  • Parliament debated the prisoners’ fate, and Zhao Zijie rejected a proposal to make the Latorians a vassal civilization.
  • Lü Yongchang ordered the extermination of the Latorians and continued the fleet’s journey to Gliese 555.
  • Hong Fan’s landing team found widespread hematite on Dawn Star, and Fang Xu suspended construction pending investigation.

Arc 13The Migration to Ross 2

Lü Yongchang advanced humanity’s technology and organized its migration from Proxima b to the Ross 154 system, where probes found a habitable world with primitive life. The fleet settled on Ross 2, and construction began on Central City as humanity started a new home.

  • The Head Councillor opened the assembly, and Hong Qiming became the second Head Councillor as councillors approved 100-year terms and learned about longevity enzyme.
  • Lü Yongchang and Mo Zeyang built a Photon Computer, then developed an Optical Quantum Computer after the first machine could not safely support Zero.
  • Lü Yongchang established a dual fleet command with Zhao Zijie and ordered surveillance probes, while Ross 154’s prolonged flare raised fears about the star.
  • Lü Yongchang awakened Maxim to help develop a Ternary Computer, and over the following decades humanity expanded its technology, population, and cities on Proxima b.
  • Lü Yongchang’s probes surveyed Ross 154 and found a promising second planet, then he ordered humanity to migrate while millions chose to remain behind.
  • The fleet traveled to Ross 154, and Lü Yongchang’s team found single-celled organisms in Ross 2’s river before approving settlement.
  • Lü Yongchang celebrated his hundredth birthday with Su Yutong, while she made him a cake and Zero observed his feelings for her.
  • Two years later, Central City stood beside the Ross River, and Tao Yuda welcomed researchers preparing to disembark onto Ross 2.

Arc 14Hua’s Final Bargain

Humanity made contact with the wounded two-dimensional civilization Hua, learned of the factions and dangers shaping the universe, and accepted a risky bargain for technology and fragments of its body. After Hua vanished and the fleet departed, Lü Yongchang awoke decades later to an alien probe whose black box suggested a more advanced origin than its shell.

  • Lü Yongchang put the Human Fleet on combat readiness after a signal arrived from Ross 154, then exchanged greetings with a civilization that revealed it had watched humanity for decades.
  • The being called Hua showed humanity its two-dimensional form, explained the Cleaners, the Gardener Faction, and the Sweepers, and said the Sweepers had destroyed the Solar System.
  • After a satellite incident disabled the cities on Proxima b, Ren Feng and Zhang Zhengqing organized residents to gather oxygen until the Human Fleet rescued them, and Lü Yongchang later granted them independence in exchange for ending Zero’s assistance.
  • Two years later, Hua said a four-dimensional weapon had damaged its core and offered shield technology in return for humanity delivering a message to the Gardener Faction.
  • When a fragment of Hua flattened a probe, Lü Yongchang accepted Hua’s data and arranged to take its fragments, and humanity built Dimensional Strike Ships to stabilize them.
  • The Human Fleet departed Ross 154 for Gliese 555 with fifty stabilized fragments, while Hua resisted assimilation into three dimensions, vanished, and left Ross 154 a black dwarf.
  • In 2300, a patrol probe discovered a damaged square probe near the fleet, and Lü Yongchang awoke to oversee its recovery and examination.
  • Lü Yongchang and He Bilin judged the square probe’s shell to be from a level one civilization, but Lü Yongchang found a laser-resistant black box that could not have come from one.

Arc 15The Lator Fleet’s Defeat

Humanity discovered the Little Gray Men were space pirates and fought their fleet, using Two-Dimensional Fragments to destroy its flagships. After capturing the surviving Lator warships, Lü Yongchang convened a meeting to decide the prisoners’ fate, where Zhao Zijie prepared to oppose keeping them as vassals.

  • Lü Yongchang recognized the captured Black Box as a superluminal communication device and ordered the Human Fleet onto combat alert as the Little Gray Men headed toward them.
  • The Human Fleet tracked and attacked the Little Gray Men’s probes, then engaged their fleet and broke through its laser-array encirclement despite heavy losses.
  • The Little Gray Men’s flagship arrived and demanded most of humanity’s supplies and technological data, but a Two-Dimensional Fragment flattened it and a secondary flagship, sending the enemy fleet into a panic.
  • Lü Yongchang ordered the Human Fleet to pursue the fleeing ships, and its attacks destroyed two secondary flagships while the remaining captains eventually surrendered.
  • Zero cracked the Lator fleet’s highest-level controls, and Lü Yongchang summoned scientists and members of Parliament to discuss how to deal with the Lator Civilization.
  • Fang Xu proposed killing all the Latorians, while a member of Parliament argued for making them a vassal civilization, and Zhao Zijie loudly rejected that proposal.

Arc 16Dawn Star Landing

After destroying the Lator Civilization, Lü Yongchang reunited with Proxima b and led the Human Fleet to Gliese 555, where it prepared to settle Dawn Star and adapt humanity to its harsh conditions. The first landing teams found widespread hematite that suggested Dawn Star once had oxygen, suspending construction while researchers investigated its origin.

  • Lü Yongchang ordered the extermination of the surrendered Latorians after records showed they had plundered and exterminated many civilizations, then the fleet continued toward Gliese 555.
  • Ren Feng and Zhang Zhengqing contacted Lü Yongchang from Proxima b, shared plans for communal child-rearing and longevity research, and exchanged information and computational support with him.
  • Lü Yongchang surveyed Gliese 555’s planets and moon, unlocked genetic-modification research, and commissioned exoskeleton armor to help humans cope with the Super-Earth’s gravity.
  • Bai Yixuan tested the exoskeleton armor in the Gravity Chamber and passed out at 1.5 g, while Hong Fan completed the tests using an old G-Force Suit.
  • The fleet reached Dawn Star, and Hong Fan led the first landing team onto its storm-prone surface in exoskeleton armor while Lü Yongchang and Mao Zhengzhi studied the Magna’s genes.
  • Hong Fan’s team found hematite across Dawn Star and suspected the planet once had oxygen, so he sent a distress signal and ordered his crew back to safety.
  • Fang Xu suspended construction after teams reported widespread hematite, and Feng Yuanliang proposed testing whether the deposits had blown in from Light Satellite One or lay at a particular depth.
