The Alta Civilization was only one of the civilizations whose warship fleets had been mobilized. Its people were a humanoid intelligent species with blue skin and distinct, mysterious blue lines across its surface, thanks to a type of cell within the skin of their carbon-based bodies.

This allowed the people of the Alta Civilization to draw the energy they needed directly from stars or other sources of visible or invisible light. They had lifespans of three thousand years, and every one of them possessed tremendous strength.

Their individual brains had even more formidable processing power. When necessary, they could even serve as auxiliary brains to provide additional computing power for warships, somewhat resembling a combination of silicon-based and carbon-based life.

Their extraordinary physical abilities also made the vacuum of space feel like home. Conjuring lightning with their bare hands was simply a matter of releasing the energy stored inside their bodies. They could also control magnetic fields to move objects at a distance or fire lasers from their eyes.

Yet none of these innate abilities had any meaningful effect in large-scale interstellar warfare. As individuals, they were nowhere near strong enough to disregard everything else. They could barely handle low-level civilizations that had only just entered the nuclear age, and they still could not withstand advanced weapons head-on.

Pale blue lines adorned silver-gray, rectangular warships. Hundreds of thousands of interstellar warships, enclosed in bubbles formed by their shields, traveled through dedicated wartime subspace routes opened by the civilizations.

With these Hyperspace Channels, the Civilization Coalition could quickly consolidate warships from across the Nebula Constellation. Their enemies, however, knew nothing of the Hyperspace Channels. Even if they discovered them, they could not enter these transport corridors outside the conventional universe without the designated keys, unless they possessed space technology.
