Genya knew the real probing had only just begun.

He adjusted his posture, making his expression both earnest and candid in the way a boy's should be.

"Father, lately... I've heard some of the older boys and girls in the clan, and people in the village, talking in private. It seems... the Uchiha Clan's position in the village is rather delicate?"

Genya's probing sent ripples through Sosuke Uchiha's heart.

He gazed into his son's clear eyes, where a faint gleam of insight into the world shone.

After a long silence, Sosuke spoke in a low voice, with a candor that came from setting aside some of his parental authority.

"You noticed... yes, how could you not?"

He laid it out.

"The nightly meetings have grown more frequent, and increasingly... drawn-out and fruitless. Your mother and I..."

Guilt toward his wife and tenderness for her flickered in his eyes.

"We always thought we hid our worries well. We didn't want the troubles of adults to intrude on your world too soon. It seems we underestimated you, Xiao Ye."

Genya listened without interrupting and refilled his father's tea.

Sosuke lifted his cup, his gaze passing through the steam toward some heavy, indistinct future.

"You've been intelligent since you were little, precocious enough to be unsettling. Taijutsu, ninjutsu... the talent and understanding you've shown have long since left your peers, and even many of your elders, far behind."

"To be honest, among all the Uchiha prodigies I've seen, your brilliance... has already surpassed Shisui's at your age, and even Itachi's."

His tone held pride, regret, and, more than anything, a complexity of feeling that words could hardly express.

"This talent is a blessing, but also a burden."

Sosuke fixed his gaze on Genya's face, sharp and penetrating.

"It shouldn't be a six-year-old child's burden to bear. We've always hoped you could have a relatively simple, happy childhood, at least... before the storm truly arrived."

He paused, as though making a decision.

"But today, in the courtyard, you shattered the last of my hesitation with your fists."

"Your strength and your eyes both told me that you've already reached a height from which you can glimpse the edge of the storm, and that you have the will to understand it, perhaps even... to intervene."

Sosuke's voice grew low and forceful.

"Then, Genya, it's time you knew what kind of precipice our Uchiha Clan stands upon."

"Time you understood why the atmosphere within the clan grows more stifling by the day."

Outside the door, Uchiha Izumi, who had been eavesdropping, instinctively covered her mouth. Tears glimmered in her eyes, but more than anything, she was overwhelmed by how much her son had grown and the ache it brought her.

Genya sat up straight, his expression solemn.

"Please explain, Father."

Sosuke Uchiha took a deep breath and began his analysis.

"Konoha, this shinobi village, was founded jointly by the First Hokage, Hashirama Senju, and our Uchiha ancestor, Madara."

"Its foundation was meant to be the Will of Fire-where leaves dance, fire lives on. Its light will continue to illuminate the village and allow new leaves to sprout."

"And yet, Xiao Ye..."

His tone turned mocking as he spoke.

"No fire, however bright, can illuminate every corner deliberately concealed in shadow. No tree, however lush, is free from the possibility of irreconcilable divisions lurking deep among its roots."

"Our Uchiha Clan possesses the Sharingan, known as the eye of insight. The core of our power comes from intense emotion, from the extremes of love and hate, from profound bonds and loss."

"That power makes us strong, but it also makes us particularly... conspicuous, even dangerous, to the village's mainstream, which pursues reason, order, and the supremacy of the collective over the individual emphasized by the Will of Fire."

"Ever since the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju, established the Konoha Military Police Force and placed it in Uchiha hands, what appeared to be an honor and a gesture of trust was actually an invisible barrier."

"It confined Uchiha power within the village's rules, while also separating us, to a degree, from the center of the village's power and the everyday lives of ordinary villagers. We uphold the rules, yet we are also defined and alienated by them."

"The Nine-Tails' Attack..."

"The Nine-Tails, controlled by those Sharingan eyes, tore away that comforting veil completely. The seeds of suspicion were planted in the hearts of the leadership and spread swiftly."

"What they saw wasn't a single possible traitor, but the uncontrollable potential threat posed by the entire Uchiha Clan."

"The incident involving the Hyuga Clan showed us even more clearly just how fragile the so-called dignity of a shinobi clan and individual lives become when the village decides sacrifices are needed to secure peace."

He looked at Genya and spoke each word deliberately.

"That is the true nature of the rift, Xiao Ye. It didn't form overnight. It came from the gradual erosion of trust, from fundamental differences in perspective, from the inevitable entanglement of power and suspicion."

"The Uchiha long for genuine recognition, acceptance, and respect, while the village leadership... or at least some of those in power, only want the Uchiha to be a useful, obedient blade. Preferably one that stays in its sheath forever, or... is simply melted down and reforged to eliminate the destabilizing elements."

"The arguments within the clan, the conservatives, the radicals, the neutral faction... are nothing more than different echoes of despair over how to coexist with a system that both needs us and guards against us, and may even destroy us."

Sosuke's conclusion carried a profound sense of helplessness.

"We stand on this side of the rift, looking at the brightly lit but heavily fortified shore opposite us, unsure whether to leap with all our strength and try to cross, retreat and build defenses to protect ourselves, or... let the rift widen until everything collapses."

A long silence settled over the study.

Sosuke's words had not merely described the conflict; they had exposed the dilemmas of power, trust, difference, and survival behind it.

Genya knew his father had opened the door to a cruel reality for him.

Now it was his turn to try to answer that dilemma with a perspective beyond this era.

His gaze was clear and firm as he spoke, his voice quiet.

"Father, I understand the rift you described."

"An abyss carved out by history, prejudice, fear, and diverging paths. If we force our way across, we may be smashed to pieces; if we stay where we are, the shadows will eventually swallow us."

"But, Father, could there be a third possibility? Doesn't the existence of that rift also mean... that the soil on both shores originally came from the same source?"

"It's simply been worn away by different currents, forming different terrain. If we can't easily fill the abyss, could we try to build a sturdy bridge across it, even one that only a few people could cross?"

"Or, to go further-could we make the Uchiha into another kind of fire, one that illuminates not only ourselves, but part of the abyss as well, and even forces those on the opposite shore to acknowledge our light?"

And so began a true conversation between father and son about the fate of their clan.

Outside the door, tears were already streaming down Izumi's face, for her son's precocious wisdom and willingness to shoulder responsibility, and for the unbearably difficult future facing their family and their clan.
