Lin Shuyang made quite a show of his sincerity, raising his glass as soon as all the dishes were served.
"What happened that day was my mistake. Don't worry, your big brother will guard your home properly from now on. I guarantee I won't let so much as a fly near Huaijin!"
Cheng Yue hadn't expected him to take it so seriously. Strictly speaking, he hadn't done anything wrong. It wasn't as though staff from clothing stores or housekeepers had never been allowed to let themselves in before.
Besides, Lin Shuyang wasn't Ji Huaijin's servant. The Lin Family was simply looking after the son of old family friends. Those two happened to be close, and Lin Shuyang didn't have a proper job, so all these little errands had fallen to him.
Cheng Yue shook his head. "Shu Yang, this had nothing to do with you."
He had understood from beginning to end that this was an issue between him and Ji Huaijin, and no one else.
Something had happened back home at precisely that time, leading to everything that followed.
Besides, he wasn't the sort to run away whenever something happened. Everyone said Ji Huaijin would rather have nothing than settle, but Cheng Yue had his own pride too.
If a relationship worked, he would stay in it. But if it turned into some melodramatic love triangle full of misunderstandings and explanations, he would be gone before there was even time to wave goodbye. He certainly wouldn't play along.
After drinking with Lin Shuyang, Cheng Yue sat down and shot the man beside him an unfriendly glance.
*If you hadn't come after me back then, I wouldn't care if you were the Ji Family's eldest young master. Even that handsome face wouldn't have gotten you anywhere with a stylish guy
