Background / History
Ah Yin’s Sacrifice and Family Neglect
Ah Yin’s sacrifice left Tang Hao grief-stricken. Believing that he could neither protect his wife nor avenge her against Spirit Hall, he withdrew into drinking. He also blamed himself for the consequences suffered by the Clear Sky Sect 4 6.
When his children were a little over two years old, Tang Hao stopped cooking for them. Tang Yin’s attempt to provoke a fatherly response instead resulted in Tang Hao striking Tang San Niang. Tang Yin subsequently begged Old Jack for food and worked in the village’s vegetable plots and orchards to feed the household 1 5.
Tang Hao refused to attend the siblings’ martial soul awakening and initially opposed their schooling, dismissing Blue Silver Grass and Spirit Veins as worthless martial souls despite their innate full soul power 1 2.
Recognition of the Twins’ Potential
His attitude changed when Tang San Niang revealed her Blue Silver Emperor and Tang Yin manifested the Clear Sky Hammer. Overwhelmed by memories of Ah Yin and hope for the sect’s revival, Tang Hao knelt and entrusted Tang San Niang’s protection to her brother 2.
He began instructing both children in twin-martial-soul cultivation. Tang Yin was forbidden to reveal the Clear Sky Hammer or add soul rings to it without permission, while Tang San Niang was directed to cultivate her Blue Silver Emperor first. Tang Hao also taught Tang Yin the Disorder Splitting Wind Hammer, becoming deeply moved when his son immediately adapted the technique to his own physique 3 4.
Repentance and Ah Yin’s Recovery
Tang Hao brought the twins to Ah Yin’s remaining Blue Silver Emperor plant in a cave behind a waterfall. Their powers formed a Blue Silver Domain that accelerated her growth, revealing that she retained instinctive awareness. Before Ah Yin, Tang Hao apologized for his failures and resolved to protect his children even at the cost of his life 6.
He removed Ah Yin from the cave and set out for the Blue Silver Forest to pursue her revival. He later returned from the Demon Whale Sea with fresh ten-thousand-year whale brain, which had healed most of his injuries, and gave it to the twins to strengthen their bodies 7.
First Soul Rings and Xiao Wu’s Adoption
Tang Hao escorted the siblings into the Star Dou Great Forest. Although he initially accepted Yu Xiaogang’s proposed first-ring absorption limit, Tang Yin persuaded him that talent, physique, and soul power control made a universal limit unreliable. Tang Hao abandoned his plan to entrust the twins to Yu Xiaogang 11.
He subdued a three-thousand-year-old Strangling Banyan for Tang Yin, leaving the killing blow to his son so that the soul ring could be absorbed. Tang San Niang’s vitality helped Tang Yin survive the absorption; afterward, Tang Hao supported resting before continuing her own soul hunt 12.
On encountering Xiao Wu, Tang Hao immediately recognized her as a transformed soul beast. He negotiated with Da Ming and Er Ming to protect her until maturity in exchange for two hundred-thousand-year soul bones, one payable in advance. He then adopted Xiao Wu and assigned much of her everyday care to Tang Yin 13 14 15.
Six-Year Absence and Reunion
Tang Hao left a letter promising to return in six years with admission letters for Heaven Dou Royal Academy. He supplied the children with a storage soul tool and whale brain, then sought Tang Yuehua’s help arranging their education. Although publicly absent from their household, he later revealed that he had followed Tang Yin during his travels 21 27 45.
Six years later, he met the group in Hasdargen City and announced that Ah Yin had awakened. He brought only Tang Yin and Tang San Niang to the Blue Silver Forest, excluding Xiao Wu because he considered Ah Yin and the forest family secrets. He witnessed the twins’ transformation into Blue Silver Emperors and renewed his declaration that Tang Yin would restore the Clear Sky Sect’s glory 49 51.
Appearance
- Build: Tall and heavily built, repeatedly compared to an iron tower or pagoda 2 13 44.
- Early condition: Sallow face, dull eyes, disordered hair, and a strong smell of alcohol 1 3.
- Renewed grooming: After recognizing the twins’ potential, he shaved his beard, combed his hair, and changed into presentable clothes 5.
- Later appearance: A deeply weathered, sharply defined face; he appears to be an ordinary middle-aged man in his fifties, though this is not stated as his exact age 45.
- After six years: His complexion is noticeably healthier, and his normally stern face carries a slight smile 49.
Personality
Tang Hao’s early grief manifests as alcoholism, neglect, and impatience with his children. His renewed interest is initially tied strongly to their usefulness to the Clear Sky Sect. He favors Tang Yin as its prospective heir and treats Tang San Niang primarily as her brother’s support. His insistence that the sect’s secret hammer technique be passed to men rather than women also leads him to exclude and scold her 1 3 4.
His remorse is nevertheless explicit: he acknowledges that his children raised and supported him rather than the reverse. After this admission, he becomes fiercely protective, responding to threats against them with intimidation and violence. His loyalty to the Clear Sky Sect remains a boundary on that affection—he withholds the Great Sumeru Hammer despite wanting to teach it to Tang Yin 6 9 45 54.
