Ch. 121.

Yu Lin Bloodhawk prepared the Hinterlands expedition and inspected the newly trained gryphon squad, while arranging secret plans for the force and catching up on events on Shalandis Isle. He left for Sunsail Archorage to deliver Sylvanas's written order to Legion Commander Alleria.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered the expedition guards to prepare to occupy and develop his territory in the Hinterlands once the Windrunner Burning Legion's Mountain Division arrived.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk watched a gryphon rider demonstrate the mounts' flight and landing, learning they could carry at least a third more bombs than dragonhawks.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk promised dragonhawk riders flying mounts after retirement and told them to keep the gryphon squad secret from the air force, king, and council.
  • A gryphon rider told Yu Lin Bloodhawk that his Frostwolf and Iceclaw Bear roamed freely, the missing snow leopards had arrived, and legions were dividing the other animals.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk learned that the young priest and other professionals remained on the island while her family argued with her over ransoming the prisoners.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk headed for Sunsail Archorage to deliver Sylvanas's written order to Windrunner Burning Legion soldiers, while the dragonhawk rider stayed behind to talk with the gryphon riders.

Ch. 122Yu Lin Bloodhawk's grievances

Yu Lin Bloodhawk arranged training for the Mountain Lion Unit and sent the Bear Iron Fist soldiers to gain combat experience against murlocs, then voiced his grievances about the royalists and the treatment of frontline legions. He proposed researching a way for rangers to heal their pets through soul links, and the mages began investigating the idea without him.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk delivered Sylvanas's order and supply list at Sunsail Archorage, then recruited Sixteen and Seventeen to return to Shalandis Isle and train the Mountain Lion Unit.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk gave the girls three sets of Nightstalker officer gear as gifts and sent them off to Sunsail Archorage.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk learned that Bear Iron Fist had trained over four hundred wild bears and directed its soldiers to fight murlocs near Goldenmist Village for combat experience.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk told the mages that his troops had captured a troll city and argued that the frontline legions were being disadvantaged by royalists and the Council.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk demonstrated his Conjure Bread and Conjure Water spells, then proposed developing a soul-link healing spell for battle pets.
  • The mages discussed ways to heal pets through soul links, leaving Yu Lin Bloodhawk unable to follow their technical conversation.

Ch. 123Plague or curse

Yu Lin Bloodhawk arranged crews and ballistae for his aircraft carriers, bought a refitted ship, and learned that rangers could recharge its arcane core. The arrival of three ships carrying black worgs made him suspect a plague or curse, and he ordered strict precautions before approaching them.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk recruited officers on Shalandis Isle to find sailors and soldiers for twenty ballistae, then went to Sunreaver Island to collect a refitted ship.
  • A naval officer asked Yu Lin Bloodhawk to exchange the ship's price for battle pets for his father's Eclipse Burning Legion, and Yu Lin Bloodhawk told him to negotiate with the Farstriders first.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk sailed toward Shalandis Isle and learned from the naval officer that rangers could recharge arcane cores using magical energy.
  • A dragonhawk rider reported that three human ships sent by Marquis Dirithis were waiting offshore with a hundred black worgs, and Yu Lin Bloodhawk suspected plague or a curse.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered the dragonhawk riders to keep away from the ships, called for experienced arcane mages to examine everyone, and approached the human vessels cautiously.

Ch. 124A false alarm

Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered an inspection after suspecting the black worgs on Marquis Diritis's ships might carry a plague, and he argued that caution was necessary. He refused the shipment and demanded that Diritis come aboard to explain whether the five black worgs were merely dyed frost wolves.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk had five arcane mages inspect his crew and the Dragonhawk Riders, who were all declared safe.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk explained that he would keep all black worgs out of Quel'Thalas because some might carry an incurable plague or curse.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk listed the regions where black worgs could be found and argued that even he would not risk buying them.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered the human ships to turn back and threatened to burn any ship that brought black worgs to Quel'Thalas.
  • Marquis Diritis claimed the five black worgs were frost wolves dyed with black pigment, and Yu Lin Bloodhawk demanded that he come aboard with no more than four others for inspection.

Ch. 125The Wretched

Yu Lin Bloodhawk confronted Dalaran mages who had frightened his fleet with warnings about a possible plague or curse, then inspected Dirithis's ship and cleared it to sail. A mage described a deranged, magically starved high elf, and Yu Lin Bloodhawk recognized him as a Wretched and anxiously asked where he was.

  • Dirithis and two Dalaran mages boarded Yu Lin Bloodhawk's ship, where Yu Lin rebuked the mages for their alarming inspection and denied knowing about the Guardian.
  • A Dalaran mage offered Dirithis's entire shipment as compensation, and Dirithis reluctantly agreed to give it to Yu Lin.
  • Yu Lin and five elf mages inspected Dirithis's ship, confirmed the wolves' dark fur was dye, and cleared the fleet to sail toward Sunsail Archorage.
  • Yu Lin ordered future cargo ships to be inspected at Shalandis Isle before reaching Sunsail Archorage.
  • A Dalaran mage told Yu Lin they had found a strange, sickly high elf in a place without magical energy, and Yu Lin identified him as a Wretched and asked where he was.

Ch. 126Antonidas

Yu Lin Bloodhawk confronted Antonidas and traded the Wretched aboard the ship for a promise to recruit Jaina Proudmoore as a student. Antonidas then tried to buy information about the rumors, but Yu Lin demanded an extravagant price to avoid taking on the dangerous deal.

  • Yu Lin threatened to seize Dalaran mages if Dalaran refused to release the Wretched, then used Stealth and Explosive Shot to intimidate Harry.
  • Antonidas revealed his identity, and Yu Lin agreed to trade the Wretched for a student with exceptional potential.
  • Yu Lin identified Jaina Proudmoore as the prospective student, and Antonidas accepted the deal after learning she was a magical prodigy.
  • Yu Lin and Antonidas confirmed that the Wretched was aboard the ship and locked in a cage.
  • Antonidas offered gold for information about the rumors, but Yu Lin demanded four medium-sized gunships, ten gryphons, and fifty thousand gold coins.

Ch. 127A big deal

Yu Lin Bloodhawk sold Antonidas information about the Dark Portal and Sargeras, while securing secrecy, payment, and an escape route. After the deal, the fleet reached Sailshine Harbor, where Yu Lin arranged for a Wretched high elf to be studied so mages could find a cure for arcane addiction.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk agreed to tell Antonidas what he knew, provided Antonidas kept his identity secret and Dirithis stayed silent.
  • Yu Lin told Antonidas that the Dark Portal had been found in the Black Morass, that fel magic had killed an investigating mage, and that the portal connected Azeroth to the Otherworld.
  • Yu Lin suggested Antonidas consult Medivh's Mother, warned him to prepare Stormwind City for war if the portal had opened, and arranged for payment and goods to be sent to his refuge on the coast of The Hinterlands.
  • Yu Lin confirmed the Gilneas information, then agreed to take Antonidas to meet the young Locust Tree Person in Tirisfal the next morning.
  • At Sailshine Harbor, Yu Lin ordered five Arcane Mages to take a Wretched high elf to Falthrien Academy and research a cure for arcane addiction.

Ch. 128They Must Never Be Allowed to Unite

Yu Lin Bloodhawk urged the Mages to research how High Elves could survive without the Sunwell, then brought Treants to Shalandis Isle to help restore its burned forest. There, he learned that Zuga had gathered many Troll prisoners and ordered the Expeditionary Force to keep the prisoners divided so they could not unite in rebellion.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk warned the Mages that losing the Sunwell could turn High Elves into Wretched and suggested using condemned prisoners for secret experiments on Shalandis Isle.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk met the Elder Treant and Little Locust Tree, then recruited dozens of Treants to inspect the burned land and help replant it.
  • Antonidas returned to Dalaran, while Yu Lin Bloodhawk and the Treants sailed to Shalandis Isle, where he saw the Navy Soldiers training and learned about the Gryphon Riders and ballista crews.
  • An Expeditionary Force Officer told Yu Lin Bloodhawk that Zuga had built a faction among Trolls who had never eaten Elves, nearly half the prisoners.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered the Officer to prevent the two groups of Troll prisoners from uniting, and the Officer explained how their separate food portions already sparked fights.

Ch. 129Loyalty

Yu Lin Bloodhawk offered Zuga a path to become his follower while arguing that the conquered Jintha'Alor City should belong to him, not Quel'Thalas. The dispute made him reconsider who he could trust as he planned to secure the Sunwell's water in the future.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered preparations for a military camp and tree planting, then heard Zuga ask to become his follower because he wanted plentiful food.
  • Zuga swore lifelong loyalty to Yu Lin Bloodhawk, who offered to release troll prisoners if they returned from Zul'Aman with three troll heads each and warned them against eating elves.
  • An officer warned Yu Lin Bloodhawk that releasing more than a thousand prisoners could cost him his rank, then accused him of betraying Quel'Thalas over Jintha'Alor City.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk argued that he had conquered and paid to maintain the city, and said he could recruit humans and trolls and leave Quel'Thalas if stripped of his title.
  • After the officer left, Yu Lin Bloodhawk resolved to assess his subordinates' loyalty and considered training a force he could trust to help seize water from the Sunwell.

Ch. 130War profits and armaments

Yu Lin Bloodhawk stayed behind from the Jintha'Alor expedition and wrestled with how to protect Quel'Thalas and finance the captured settlement. He began preparing to profit from the coming war and ended by seeking secondhand equipment from the Farstriders.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk wrote to Sylvanas, Alleria, and the Farstriders Commander, explaining why he had released troll prisoners and asking that trolls returning elven captives or bodies be allowed to pass and receive food.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk sent the expedition to Jintha'Alor without him, instructing its officers to train with Sylvanas and conceal the gryphons aboard ship for the first two days at sea.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk considered the Sunwell's fate, his own political limitations, and the need to secure Jintha'Alor through peaceful trade rather than endless fighting.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk wrote secretly to Thirteen to buy large quantities of armor and weapons, then withdrew 20,000 gold coins and sent the money and food supplies to Jintha'Alor.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk realized his own troops still lacked suitable equipment, flew to the Farstriders' camp, and discussed trading worgs for secondhand military gear with the Farstriders Commander.

Ch. 131They were back!

Yu Lin Bloodhawk arranged equipment and troop support for the legions, oversaw planting and training on Shalandis Isle, and sent forces to return Troll prisoners and hunt Shadowpine scouts. After more than half a year, Fourteen and Fifteen returned from Booty Bay with nearly a thousand owls, though they had failed to obtain Wyverns.

  • The Farstriders Commander agreed to trade 3,600 sets of secondhand Ranger equipment for 1,200 Worgs, and Yu Lin Bloodhawk arranged to find more wolves.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk watched Treants plant fruit trees and learned that they had set aside about two hundred mu for breadfruit seedlings.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk checked the Mountain Lion and Snow Leopard trainees as Sixteen and Seventeen revised their Nightstalker training manual.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk allowed the Treants to live on Shalandis Isle and arranged for Windrunner Burning Legion Bear Iron Fist Warriors to help manage Troll prisoners and farm Murlocs.
  • Sixteen and Seventeen led 600 Mountain Lion troops and 100 Snow Leopard troops escorting over a thousand Troll prisoners back to Zul'Aman, then planned to hunt Shadowpine scouts.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk hurried to Sunsail Archorage and welcomed Fourteen and Fifteen, who returned from Booty Bay with nearly a thousand owls but no Wyverns.

Ch. 132Could You Stop Being So Childish?

Yu Lin Bloodhawk received the young owls, negotiated a major equipment order, and tried to tame an owl by keeping it awake for three days. Alleria learned that two rare pets were being held for a marriage-related deal with Sylvanas, while Yu Lin Bloodhawk celebrated when his owl finally seemed to yield.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk learned that the Bloodsail Buccaneers had ignored the owls during their raid, and Fourteen explained how he had exchanged Quel'Thalas gold for a profit.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk offered the owls to the armies, chose one for himself, and failed repeatedly to bond with it using Spirit Link.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk left Fourteen and Fifteen to negotiate a large goblin order while he kept the owl awake in an attempt to tame it.
  • Alleria and the Farstriders Commander arrived and found Yu Lin Bloodhawk exhausted after three sleepless days; he told them he was trying to break the owl's pride.
  • Alleria learned that an Iceclaw Bear and a Frostwolf were reserved under Yu Lin Bloodhawk's agreement with Sylvanas as potential wedding gifts, and demanded to know why her marriage was involved.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk saw the owl finally stop resisting and cheered, while Alleria scolded him for acting childishly.

Ch. 133A student with a severe imbalance in his abilities

Yu Lin Bloodhawk formed a Soul Link with an owl and sold the remaining birds to the Farstriders in exchange for retired equipment. Back at Tranquillien Military Camp, he mastered several creature-detection spells and learned that the Falthrien Academy’s research on pet-healing had stalled because its mages could not form Soul Links with beasts; he then realized where the problem lay.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk forced the owl to accept a Soul Link, then sold birds to Alleria and the Farstriders Commander in exchange for equipment.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk left Fourteen and Fifteen to handle the goblin negotiations and traveled to Tranquillien Military Camp.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk found a document listing creature-detection spells and mastered all of them within a week.
  • The camp’s mages watched Yu Lin Bloodhawk practice Humanoid Detection and discussed his uneven magical abilities.
  • An old mage explained that the Falthrien Academy’s research had stalled because none of its mages could form a Soul Link with a beast.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk realized where the key to the Soul Link problem lay.

Ch. 134Mages could have pets too

Yu Lin Bloodhawk helped rogues and mages establish soul links with giant owls, then taught himself Beast Healing while the mages investigated its mana costs. After receiving word that Quel'Thalas's army had left Jintha'Alor and the city was safe for now, he was left to arrange for people to manage the territory.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk arranged for twelve giant owls to be brought to camp, and the mages agreed to investigate soul links for people without magical talent.
  • After three and a half days of exhausting training, all four rogues established soul links with owls, and the mages later succeeded in doing the same.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk sent the rogues to their duties with instructions to coordinate military-equipment purchases, recruit leatherworkers, and deliver 13's Nightstalker Combat Set.
  • The mages struggled to reduce the mana lost when casting Beast Healing, but Yu Lin Bloodhawk learned the spell in two days and found it inexpensive to use.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk suggested the mages seek help at Falthrien Academy, and they all returned there that night.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk received a letter saying Quel'Thalas's army had left Jintha'Alor, the Vilebranch Trolls had quieted down, and 14 wanted him to send people to manage the city.

Ch. 135The final lesson

Yu Lin Bloodhawk reunited with Sylvanas and brought her to the Falthrien Academy, where he delivered his final lesson to the troops and students about Quel'Thalas and its people. He revealed a Wretched and declared that arcane addiction afflicted every High Elf, leaving the crowd in uproar.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk welcomed Sylvanas and the returning troops, then told her his Mountain Lion Unit was hunting Troll scouts on the front lines.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk ordered the troops to march to the Falthrien Academy to receive their final politics lesson, and Sylvanas decided to accompany him.
  • At the academy, Sylvanas saw a Wretched, while Yu Lin Bloodhawk learned that the mages had found no cure for the condition.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk addressed the assembled soldiers, teachers, and students, declaring that Quel'Thalas was its people and that they were its true masters.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk unveiled a Wretched in a cage and announced that arcane addiction afflicted every High Elf, provoking an uproar from the crowd.

Ch. 136Do you even know what you're saying?

Yu Lin Bloodhawk taught soldiers and students that they must protect Quel'Thalas's people, the Sunwell's water, and the Falthrien Academy, and announced plans to seek a cure for the Wretched. After his speech, Sylvanas feared the king would treat it as rebellion and urged him to flee while she handled the fallout.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk rallied the crowd to kill anyone who endangered Quel'Thalas, even a king, and taught soldiers to protect civilians rather than die needlessly against an unbeatable foe.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk named the people, the Sunwell's water, and the Falthrien Academy's research capability as Quel'Thalas's three treasures and demanded soldiers protect them.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk revealed his deal with Archmage Antonidas would provide four medium-sized gunships and fifty thousand gold coins to fund an adventuring team seeking a cure for the Wretched.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk invited loyal volunteers to join the search and dismissed the soldiers, then Sylvanas pulled him aside and warned that his speech could be treated as rebellion.
  • Sylvanas ordered Yu Lin Bloodhawk to flee to Jintha'Alor while she assessed the reaction, and realized he had made the speech to help her seize the Sunwell's water in the future.

Ch. 137You can't stop them. Go back!

Yu Lin Bloodhawk fled for Jintha'Alor after urging Sylvanas to prepare for the Sunwell’s loss, while Sylvanas began planning experiments on the Wretched and coordinated the troops’ response. The Bloodhawk and Frostwolf forces resisted a Council order to return to Silvermoon City until a Grand Archmage intervened and told Liadrin to let them pass.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk told Sylvanas to secure Shalandis Isle, protect Sixteen and Seventeen, and send grain and a transport ship to Jintha'Alor before withdrawing his gold and sailing there.
  • Sylvanas consulted mages about the Wretched and proposed using Shalandis Isle for experiments, while arranging for condemned prisoners to be obtained.
  • Sylvanas ordered the Bloodhawk Regiment and Frostwolf Clan troops to march to Tranquillien Military Camp in wartime formation, then went to coordinate with Alleria and the far-ranging legion commander.
  • Liadrin blocked the troops on behalf of the Council and demanded that they return to Silvermoon City, but the Frostwolf commander refused and prepared to charge.
  • A Grand Archmage appeared beside Liadrin and told her that she could not stop the troops and should report that Falthrien Academy had let them leave.

Ch. 138Life drifted with the tide, and fate was hard to predict

Yu Lin Bloodhawk returned to the Hinterlands and learned how his forces had defended Jintha'Alor and developed the harbor. He discussed supply routes, the depleted Teleportation Circle, and plans to expand the harbor defenses as the trolls’ attacks subsided.

  • Liadrin let the Frostwolf Clan Regiment pass after the old mage warned that her knights could not stop them, and the mage said the Council had overreached its authority.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk arrived at the Hinterlands harbor and inspected its unfinished watchtower, defenses, and aircraft carrier.
  • A soldier told Yu Lin Bloodhawk that the troops had destroyed a Vilebranch Troll attack with a road trap and bombing runs from the carrier.
  • Fourteen arrived and explained that the damaged mountain road was difficult to cross and that the local Teleportation Circle’s Magic Core was running low.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk and Fourteen discussed recruiting craftsmen and building another watchtower, walls, and a gate around the harbor.
  • Fourteen said Sylvanas had ordered the captured trolls killed, and described how Jintha'Alor’s defenses had crushed their repeated assaults.

Ch. 139Something Had to Be Wrong

Yu Lin Bloodhawk reviewed the troll campaign and military supplies at Jintha'Alor, then learned that only a small group of Wildhammer dwarves lived near Aerie Peak and could approach wild gryphons. He ordered the gryphon riders to watch them without provoking them while he investigated the dwarves’ history and the gryphons’ origins.

  • Fourteen reported that Sylvanas had pursued the trolls and ordered their southern villages bombed, while the surrendered Vilebranch fighters had suffered few casualties defending Jintha'Alor.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk learned that Fourteen had not distributed the equipment he had sent for the Vilebranch, so he ordered him to arrange for the used armor and chainmail to be refurbished.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk inspected Jintha'Alor's supplies and told Fourteen to arrange purchases and deliveries through Southshore and Westfall.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk asked gryphon riders about Aerie Peak and learned that only a few dozen Wildhammer dwarves were there, taming wild gryphons.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk recalled the gryphon riders training aboard the ship and ordered at least three to watch the Wildhammer dwarves around the clock without starting a conflict.
  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk returned to his stone house and began examining dwarven history to understand why the Wildhammer dwarves were at Aerie Peak and how they related to the gryphons.

Ch. 140A plan of coercion

Yu Lin Bloodhawk realized the Wildhammer Dwarves had not yet settled at Aerie Peak and that their wild gryphons offered a chance he had missed. With bad news from Quel'Thalas expected soon, he planned to intimidate the dwarves into sharing the gryphons and forming an alliance.

  • Yu Lin Bloodhawk reconsidered the history of the Wildhammer Dwarves and realized the gryphons near Aerie Peak were still wild.
  • Yu Lin weighed seizing Aerie Peak against protecting Jintha'Alor and concluded he could not risk sending his forces across troll territory.
  • Yu Lin reasoned that the Wildhammer Dwarves had arrived only recently and decided that an alliance was safer than attacking them.
  • Yu Lin estimated that news from Quel'Thalas could arrive within days and resolved to negotiate with the dwarves before his elven troops might leave.
  • Yu Lin assembled the Bloodhawk Expeditionary Force, selected one hundred High Rangers, and ordered them to rehearse a show of strength for the dwarves.
