With all five of them staring at him like that, Su Ye briefly began to wonder whether he was even human.
Besides, compared to him, this handsome middle-aged man who could unleash a blade of light with a single slash seemed far less human.
But Su Ye didn't dare say that aloud.
"Guys, my name is Su Ye. I'm from Blue Star, and I only just entered this highway survival game," Su Ye answered.
"Blue Star? You said you're from Blue Star?"
"Which city on Blue Star are you from? What's your ID number?"
Hearing Su Ye's answer, the handsome middle-aged man immediately grew excited. The other four looked equally incredulous.
"I'm from Changwen City, Fenghai Province, in the Xia Kingdom on Blue Star. My ID number is 54321..." Su Ye said.
"You're from Fenghai Province? Then do you know who the richest person in Fenghai Province is?"
"Man, I honestly don't know. I'm just a freshman at Fenghai University from an ordinary family. Why would I normally look into who's the richest person?"
Su Ye felt helpless. He did know who the richest person in the country was, but he'd never looked into who topped the list in his province.
"All right, let me ask you something else. What's the most famous building in Fenghai Province?"
"There are loads of famous buildings, but the most famous has to be the Fenghai Ancient Pagoda. It stood for a thousand years without falling, but then some experts repaired it, and guess what? Their repairs brought it down. It became famous nationwide."
"What's the most famous animal in Fenghai Province?"
"How many provinces does our country have?"
"What time does the national news broadcast air?"
"..."
The handsome middle-aged man asked another dozen or so questions, and Su Ye answered them all. It wasn't that Su Ye was especially knowledgeable; everything the man asked was common knowledge.
Fortunately, Su Ye had absorbed his predecessor's memories, so answering posed no difficulty at all.
"Anything else you'd like to ask, man?" Su Ye asked. He knew the man was verifying his identity.
"Wait a moment. We need to discuss this."
The handsome middle-aged man's expression turned serious. "By the way, my name is Zhou Chang. I'm the richest person in Fenghai Province. Also, don't even think about running. You're just a newcomer, but even a tier-two player couldn't survive a single slash from me."
With that, Zhou Chang led the other four aside. They huddled together, discussing something Su Ye couldn't hear.
Su Ye breathed a sigh of relief. At least judging by the current situation, Zhou Chang and the others wouldn't attack him. His life was safe for now.
As the five of them huddled together whispering, Su Ye seized the chance to familiarize himself with the game rules.
There were eighteen rules in total. When he read the eighteenth, Su Ye finally realized that the survival game had already warned him to run.
Right, there's also the game panel.
At a thought from Su Ye, a panel appeared before his eyes.
The panel had three tabs. The first displayed his attributes.
[Player]: Su Ye [Nickname]: None [Race]: humanity [Status]: Healthy [Tier]: 0 [Physique]: 0.9 (a normal adult has 1 point) [Spirit]: 2.1 (a normal adult has 1 point) [Talent]: Unawakened [Vehicle]: Pickup truck
My spirit is actually twice that of an adult. It probably has something to do with my transmigration.
There's a talent field, too. Does that rich guy Zhou have a talent that lets him unleash those blades of light?
Still, my spirit would be perfect for a powerful mage talent. I wonder how you get a talent. I'll see if I can ask those five later.
Next, Su Ye looked at the second tab, which displayed his vehicle.
[Vehicle]: Pickup truck [Level]: 1 [Durability]: 78% [Fuel]: 30 units (each unit allows 10 kilometers of travel) [Vehicle weapons]: None [Functional modules]: None
I only have enough fuel for three hundred kilometers. That means I'll have to find more afterward.
Su Ye frowned. That little fuel wasn't even enough for a day's driving.
From the looks of it, fuel was even more important than food and water.
He could last a few days without eating or drinking, but without fuel, he'd have nothing to do but wait for death after three hundred kilometers.
Still, since this was a survival game, there had to be opportunities to obtain fuel farther along the highway. Otherwise, no one could survive.
Then Su Ye looked at the third tab. This one contained the chat and trading interfaces.
[Please set a nickname. This nickname can be used to chat in the chat interface and conduct trades in the trading interface.]
"Never Check the Fuel Gauge."
Without much hesitation, Su Ye used his gaming handle from his previous life.
[Nickname set successfully. Chat interface activated.]
As the notification appeared, Su Ye saw messages flooding through the chat interface.
[Zone C13 chat channel (999029 players)]
"Holy shit, where is this? I hadn't even finished washing my feet!"
"What the fuck? Five monsters suddenly rushed at me just now. Good thing I ran fast."
"What vehicles did you all get? I've got a heavy truck, hehehe."
"How come you get a heavy truck, while all I get is a pair of roller skates?"
"At least you have roller skates. I drove into the gray fog, and it swallowed part of my car. Now my car's totaled, and I have to run on foot."
"O great Earthfire Spirit, please come save us! I don't want to be here."
"..."
Su Ye narrowed his eyes as he read the messages.
He realized he'd never seen the script used in the chat before, yet he understood what it meant.
Then he opened the trading function. Supplies could be traded there, and quite a few useless things had already been listed.
Since there was no currency for now, however, most transactions were barter.
While Su Ye was browsing, Zhou Chang and the others seemed to finish their discussion and walked over together. Su Ye hurriedly closed the interface and forced another smile.
"Come down. Let's talk."
"Don't worry," Zhou Chang said. "If we really wanted to hurt you, you wouldn't still be alive."
"Sure, man."
Su Ye got out without hesitation. After seeing how powerful Zhou Chang was, he knew the pickup truck couldn't protect him from the man.
"You've read the game rules, right? Then you should know that this highway survival game isn't centered on humanity, but on the Fivefold Race," Zhou Chang said.
Su Ye paused, then flipped back to the first sentence of Chapter 1. Sure enough, he saw the words, "This is an escape game for every member of the Fivefold Race."
Tsk, I thought the author had made a mistake.
"Man, what exactly is the Fivefold Race?" Su Ye asked curiously.
"I don't know the specifics either. All I know is that the Fivefold Race consists of five tribes: the Tide Tribe, the Flame Tribe, the Feather Tribe, the Frost Tribe, and the Sand Tribe."
"Individual members of the Fivefold Race are far stronger than us humans. Take you, for example. Your attributes should only be around one point right now, right? But theirs start at a minimum of five."
"In other words," Zhou Chang said, "if you encounter any member of the Fivefold Race, even fighting with everything you've got will probably only get you killed."
Su Ye was shocked. He'd thought having a spirit attribute of two points put him among the best, but he'd never expected individual members of the Fivefold Race to be so powerful.
"I don't know how you joined a highway survival game that was supposed to belong to the Fivefold Race, but one thing's certain: surviving it will be much harder for you than what we went through before," Zhou Chang continued.
Su Ye nodded thoughtfully. With individual members of the Fivefold Race being so powerful, the survival game was bound to be more difficult.
"But don't lose heart. The gap between you and the Fivefold Race only matters early on. Once you raise your attributes later, you'll be fine."
"You've seen your interface, right? There's a talent field on it. Awakening a talent is simple. When both your physique and spirit reach 10 points, you can advance to tier one. Then you just need to obtain a Talent Awakening Potion to awaken your talent."
"There are plenty of ways to get a Talent Awakening Potion. For instance, during the seven-day beginner protection period, if you rank first in distance traveled, you'll receive one Talent Awakening Potion."
