Background / History

The Fivefold Race constitutes one civilization, but its five tribes were already divided by friction and armed conflict before entering Road Survival. Their outward cordiality during the game conceals competition over limited resources and a desire to surpass the other tribes 3 44.

Its arrival begins a new survival session in which members of previously failed civilizations serve as monsters opposing the incoming players. Great Xia initially regards the Fivefold Race as naturally stronger than humanity, while noting that eliminating its players awards more Survival Points 6.

Appearance

Tide Tribe

  • Build: The photographed member is roughly half again as large as an ordinary human, with heavily developed muscles 18.
  • Skin: Bronze, with faint scale-like patterns 18.
  • Hair and eyes: Deep dark blue; the eyes are slightly sunken 18.
  • Ears: Rounded semicircles pressed close to the sides of the head 18.

Feather Tribe

  • Noble features: Gray-white hair and pure white eyes identify pure noble blood 18.
  • Ordinary features: Dark brown hair and pale cyan eyes identify ordinary members at the bottom of the hierarchy 18.
  • Disguise reference: Su Ye models his Feather Tribe noble form as a tall, lean, pale humanoid with an enlarged frame. This is a customized disguise, not a description of every Feather Tribe member 18 19.

Society

Bloodline Hierarchy

Bloodline rank directly determines a member's standing within their tribe. The hierarchy is described as extremely strict, with visibly different features distinguishing ranks even within the same tribe 18.

Documented Feather Tribe Rank Identifying Features Social Standing
Pure-blood noble Gray-white hair; pure white eyes Born above ordinary members 18
Ordinary member Dark brown hair; pale cyan eyes Bottom of the tribal hierarchy 18

Intertribal Relations

  • Tribal rivalry: Players exchange insults in regional chat and compete to claim Su Ye's Initial Trial victory for their own tribe 5.
  • Competition for supplies: Representatives of four tribes offer extra payment to receive crossbows before the Feather Tribe's earlier order 12.
  • Selective cooperation: Players also begin sharing monster weaknesses and roadside danger reports after their initial panic subsides 24.
  • Attitude toward outsiders: Su Ye expects the tribes to unite against him if they discover that he is human. This anticipated hostility motivates his concealment; it is not a documented collective attack 5 16.

Abilities & Skills

Enhanced Starting Attributes

  • Fivefold Race members begin with attributes of at least 5 points, compared with approximately 1 point for a normal human adult 2.
  • Their physical and mental advantages make an early direct confrontation especially dangerous for Su Ye 2.
  • The advantage is not insurmountable: Zhou Chang explains that Su Ye can close the gap by increasing his own attributes 2.

High-Speed Driving Capacity

  • Their stronger physiques and mental attributes are suited to the game's greater vehicle speeds and reaction demands 19.
  • Road Survival scales to the participating civilization's capabilities. A level-two vehicle in humanity's trial reached 180 km/h, while Su Ye's level-two vehicle in the Fivefold Race's trial reached 240 km/h 19.
  • Su Ye judges that a Fivefold Race member would likely experience no discomfort driving his level-three vehicle, unlike his own initially underpowered human body 20.

Estimated players under ten or over eighty Approximately 2 billion; identified as the main elimination targets during the first three days 6

Survival Rules

  • Each player receives a random starting vehicle and must gather materials to upgrade it while fleeing the pursuing Gray Mist 1.
  • Roadside supply crates can contain useful resources or hidden dangers 1.
  • The seven-day beginner period allows players to adapt while monster strength remains manageable 33.
  • After beginner protection ends, the Gray Mist accelerates and purges players who have not progressed sufficiently 40.
  • During the beginner period, resources chiefly come from supply crates, primitive monsters, and roadside buildings; valuable drops from civilization monsters are heavily restricted 41.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Initial Trial Announcement

Su Ye becomes the first player credited with passing the Fivefold Race civilization's Initial Trial. The announcement shocks the Gray Mist World's civilizations, which identify the Fivefold Race as only the fifth civilization on record to produce such a player 5 6.

The apparent achievement is misleading: Su Ye is human, and Zhou Chang's team deliberately allows him to kill them. Most observers do not know this and reassess the Fivefold Race's threat level upward 6.

Trade and Mileage Competition

  • Su Ye supplies crossbows and bolts to buyers from all five tribes. Ling Yue and the four other tribal buyers occupy the first five positions when the mileage rankings open 12 13.
  • He uses rivalry between the tribes to reinforce the Feather Tribe's order priority, earning a 100-unit fuel tip from Ling Yue 12.
  • He trades mutant meat with Ling Yue and representatives of the other tribes to improve his attributes 20.
  • Bandage sales become another major source of resources. Su Ye and Mo Yu sell 10,000 Simple Bandages for roughly 160,000 units of fuel, using a scarcity announcement to stimulate demand 35 36.
  • Ling Yue also purchases information about vehicle advancement and negotiates for information on vehicle buildings 40 43 44.

Infiltration and Humanity's Stake

Su Ye obtains photographs of all five tribes by offering fuel to stranded players. After learning about bloodline ranks, he uses an Illusionary Form Mask to assume a Feather Tribe noble appearance and saves it as a preset 18 19.

Great Xia supports his progress despite uncertainty over whether his reaching the road's end would count as victory for humanity or the Fivefold Race. Even if the Fivefold Race receives the victory, humanity expects to gain information about the road's final stretch 3 6 14.

Notable Members and External Relationships

  • Ling Yue — Young chief of the Feather Tribe, first-place holder when the mileage rankings open, and a major trading partner of Su Ye 12 13 20 43.
  • Wild Wind Blade — Tide Tribe player whose stalled vehicle makes him receptive to Su Ye's offer of fuel in exchange for a full-body photograph 18.
  • Su Ye — Human outsider participating in the Fivefold Race's survival session; trades with its players while concealing his species 5 18.
  • Great Xia — Failed human civilization whose members eliminate Fivefold Race players for Survival Points while secretly assisting Su Ye 6 14 15.
