All three turned to look at the road outside the gas station.
A car came speeding toward them, then braked to a steady stop at the edge of the gas station.
The car's arrival immediately drew the attention of every monster in the gas station.
The five zombies let out low growls, while the goblins on the roof raised their hand crossbows.
But they only stared intently, without charging out.
Restricted by the rules, their primary task was to guard the gas station. They could not leave its grounds and could only attack once a player crossed the red line.
Old Wu and his two companions brightened the moment they saw the vehicle.
"He's here."
Old Wu murmured, then they exchanged meaningful glances. Hugging the wall, the three silently retreated to the farthest corner of the convenience store.
Next, they saw the car door open, and a tall figure with white hair and white eyes stepped out.
It was, of course, Su Ye, disguised as a Feather Tribe noble through Illusionary Form.
After getting out, Su Ye swept his gaze over the entire gas station and immediately noticed the three people from Great Xia who had retreated to the corner.
They had deliberately moved farther away, but positioned themselves where he could still see them.
Su Ye did not greet them, since the gas station still contained monsters transformed from members of other civilizations.
Any communication could expose them before those monsters were cleared out.
I'll deal with the others first.
With a thought, Su Ye summoned two hand crossbows into his hands. Then he stepped forward, entering the abandoned gas station's territory.
"Roar!"
The instant he entered, the five zombies charged at him like sharks scenting blood, roaring and waving their black claws as they tried to tear the intruder apart.
Yet when the five zombies came within three meters of Su Ye, their bodies suddenly froze.
A trace of bewilderment flashed through their scarlet eyes. Despite their overwhelming urge to attack, an irresistible force of rules had locked their movements.
It prevented them from initiating an attack on Su Ye.
It was not just the zombies. The four goblins occupying the high ground had aimed at Su Ye the moment he appeared.
But now their fingers seemed rooted to the triggers, unable to pull them no matter how hard they tried.
"Done screaming? Then it's my turn."
Su Ye smiled amiably at the zombies right in front of him, which kept baring their teeth but could not attack.
Then he raised both hands, pressing his hand crossbows directly against the foreheads of two zombies.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
He pulled the triggers. Two bolts instantly pierced the zombies' rotting skulls and shot out the backs of their heads in sprays of black blood.
The two zombies did not even manage to scream. Their health bars instantly emptied, and they collapsed to the ground with a thud.
The other three could only rage helplessly at the sight, still unable to initiate an attack on Su Ye.
Su Ye wasted no time. With a flick of his hands, the two hand crossbows returned to his Storage Ring. A flash of light followed, and two already-cocked hand crossbows appeared in his hands.
The swap was seamless, without the slightest pause.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
Two more shrill whistles rang out as the bolts struck precisely into another two zombies' eye sockets.
In the blink of an eye, four of the five were dead, leaving only the last zombie.
Su Ye put away the hand crossbows, and a Scale-Breaking Blade gleaming with cold light appeared in his palm.
The blade flashed.
Shlick!
A large head flew into the air. The headless corpse spurted black blood, then fell to the ground.
"Trash. They didn't drop a single thing."
Su Ye shook the filthy blood off his blade and looked up at the four goblins on the roof, now frozen in shock, then at the giant bear still sleeping soundly on the ground.
"So aggro really is calculated separately, at least during the beginner period. No chain reaction. That makes it easy to deal with them one at a time."
Su Ye chuckled, ignoring the giant bear the size of a small hill.
He bent his knees slightly and shot forward like a cheetah. His toes tapped the casing of an abandoned fuel pump, launching him higher, and he vaulted straight onto the convenience store's roof.
As the four goblins watched Su Ye descend like a god of slaughter, fear finally appeared in their eyes.
They wanted to flee, but Su Ye's blade was already upon them.
He raised his blade and brought it down. The sound of steel slicing through flesh was especially harsh in the wind.
In just three seconds, all four goblins had become corpses.
Su Ye casually picked up the few pieces of wood and copper the goblins had dropped, then walked to the edge of the roof and looked down at the giant bear below.
"Even that didn't wake it. Looks like the rules give players a chance to strike first."
"If the opening attack can't finish this giant bear, the only option is to fight it up close."
Su Ye understood.
The giant bear appeared to be a native primitive monster, which meant killing it would very likely yield mutant bear meat.
"I haven't tried this bear meat yet."
Su Ye leaped off the roof, landing lightly and steadily in front of the giant bear's enormous head.
This time, he did not use his Scale-Breaking Blade or hand crossbows. One look at the giant bear told him it had high defense and plenty of health.
To be safe and avoid getting dragged into a dangerous close-quarters fight with the giant bear, Su Ye turned his wrist and took out the Desert Eagle he had never used before.
"You're pretty big. You should have plenty of vitality, but no matter how tough you are, you'll still die if your head gets blown apart."
Su Ye pressed the dark muzzle directly against the giant bear's forehead.
Bang! Bang!
Two deafening gunshots tore through the gas station's silence.
The recoil was considerable, but with Su Ye's current Physique stat, it had no effect on him.
The two bullets punched through the giant bear's skull. Blood and white brain matter burst out, leaving two horrific bloody holes in its head.
The giant bear's massive body shuddered violently, and it let out a muffled whimper. Before it could even open its eyes, it died in its sleep, its enormous health bar instantly emptying.
As the giant bear died, its corpse rapidly faded, leaving four faintly glowing orbs where it had lain.
"Primitive monsters really are the best. Not only do they drop more loot, they're more likely to drop good stuff." Su Ye smiled, then picked up the four glowing orbs.
