Chu Ge nodded at Zhou Chang's words.
Whether Su Ye represented humanity or the Fivefold Race, his appearance was enormously important to all of Great Xia.
The worst-case scenario was that he represented the Fivefold Race.
But as long as he could reach the end of the road, he could still provide invaluable information, allowing them to prepare better for their next attempt at Road Survival.
"The end of the road..."
Chu Ge recalled their two previous attempts at the game. The first time, they had failed after covering 86.3% of the road.
The second time, despite making some preparations and all of Blue Star uniting, they had still failed at the 89.1% mark.
They had no idea what lay in that final 10%.
Among the many civilizations in the Gray Mist World, the furthest any had reached so far was 97%.
But the civilizations were too busy sabotaging one another to willingly share information about the later stretches.
With help from all of Blue Star, or even just Great Xia, Su Ye would have a strong chance of reaching the end of the road.
"Dad, I'll take over from here. Take those four downstairs to rest," Chu Ge said.
Zhou Chang nodded. All he could do was pass the news along to Chu Ge; he had no say in what would be decided afterward.
After Zhou Chang left with the four others, Chu Ge sat at his desk for half an hour before returning to the conference room.
On the road.
The pickup continued steadily forward. Looking at the barren landscape around him, Su Ye began to feel bored.
"It's been two hours, and there hasn't been a single building. No supply crates or monsters, either. Where am I supposed to find food and water?"
Su Ye checked the trading interface. Although some people were selling food and water, their asking prices were outrageous.
Besides, everything he had was good stuff, and he couldn't bear to trade any of it away.
I'll wait until tonight. If I still haven't found food or water, I'll have to trade some fuel, Su Ye thought.
Another fifteen minutes passed.
Suddenly, Su Ye's eyes lit up. A three-story residential building had appeared on the left side of the road ahead.
"Finally, a building."
Su Ye drove up to the house, stopped, and examined it carefully.
It had three stories and looked much like the privately built houses he had seen in the countryside before. It also had a moderately sized courtyard.
There were five rooms on the first floor. All he could see on the second and third floors were battered windows, but there were probably quite a few rooms up there, too.
"I'm not asking for much. Just give me some food and water."
Su Ye took out the Scale-Breaking Blade and cautiously approached the house.
Roar!
The instant he stepped into the courtyard, a roar rang out. Then the door of one of the rooms shattered, and three figures charged out.
"Zombies?"
Su Ye tightened his grip on the Scale-Breaking Blade.
Just as he braced himself for a fight, however, the three zombies stopped three meters away from him.
Then Su Ye and the three zombies simply stared at one another.
Roar, roar, roar...
The three zombies kept roaring furiously at Su Ye, but none attacked.
Su Ye smiled at the sight and glanced at the Gray Fog Medal pinned to his chest. He knew it was doing its job.
"Zhou was right. With this Gray Fog Medal, monsters won't attack me first, at least during the beginner phase."
"But I don't know whether these zombies track hostility individually or as a group. I'll have to test it."
If they tracked it as a group, attacking one zombie would allow the other two to attack him as well.
With that in mind, Su Ye approached one of the zombies. After examining it carefully, he moved behind it and raised the Scale-Breaking Blade.
Slash!
The blade swept down smoothly, severing the zombie's head and sending it rolling across the ground.
Su Ye quickly retreated, keeping his eyes on the other two zombies. Yet even after several seconds, they could only roar helplessly at him, making no move to attack.
"Looks like these three zombies track hostility separately. That makes things much easier."
Su Ye smiled, then strode up to the two zombies.
Slash, slash...
Two more strokes fell, and he easily killed the remaining zombies.
"That felt good. This Gray Fog Medal really is something. I'll have to raise its tier as much as I can."
Su Ye nodded in satisfaction, then began checking the items the three zombies had dropped.
A piece of moldy bread and a piece of scrap iron.
The three zombies had dropped two items. One had dropped nothing at all.
Su Ye wasn't surprised. Zhou Chang had told him that tier-zero monsters could drop nothing, while monsters of tier one or above were guaranteed to drop something.
Getting two items from three zombies meant his luck was actually pretty good.
"Even a dog wouldn't eat this moldy bread. I'll put it up for trade later."
"The scrap iron counts as a basic material. I'll keep it for now."
After putting away the two items, Su Ye turned his gaze toward the house. Now it was time for the real haul.
Half an hour later, Su Ye had searched every room on all three floors.
His haul: one case of bottled water, half a case of packaged instant noodles, one large rusty iron pot, one axe, three lighters, assorted kitchen utensils, five screws, thirteen iron sheets, and assorted glass fragments.
Su Ye had planned to take the wooden doors down as well, but the moment he touched one, it crumbled to pieces.
"Too bad I can't dismantle the house. There must be plenty of rebar inside."
That was what Su Ye thought.
Still, this had been a huge haul. He now had both food and water, so he wouldn't have to worry about starving for the time being.
After putting everything away, Su Ye headed toward the pickup. Just as he was leaving the courtyard, however, he noticed something black in one corner.
Curious, Su Ye went over to take a look. It was actually a supply crate.
[Supply crate]: Open to receive one random item. Of course, you might also receive a loving hug from a monster.
"Good thing I spotted it, or I would've missed this supply crate."
Without hesitation, Su Ye opened it.
Even if a monster appeared, he wasn't afraid. Aside from the Gray Fog Medal, the Desert Eagle in his storage ring alone was enough to handle most tier-one monsters.
Click...
The supply crate opened, revealing a thermos inside.
Su Ye picked up the thermos, and information appeared before his eyes.
[Scorching Thermos]: Tier zero. This thermos has a scorching-hot inner lining. Perhaps you could add some water to soothe the heat within.
