Background / History
Jujutsu High Enrollment
Geto enters Jujutsu High in April 2005 alongside Ze Zenin, Satoru Gojo, and Shoko Ieiri, under homeroom teacher Masamichi Yaga. He welcomes Ze and Shoko warmly, but initially finds Gojo’s arrogance irritating. Ze helps the two get along despite their early disagreements about protecting the weak 9 11.
Their rivalry develops through sparring. Geto cannot penetrate Gojo’s Limitless in their early match and loses despite combining close combat with cursed-spirit attacks. Their arguments over sorcerers’ responsibilities continue, but do not break their friendship 12 16.
Star Plasma Vessel Mission
Geto and Gojo are assigned to protect Riko Amanai. Geto survives an explosion at her hiding place and jumps after her as she falls from the building. He later helps escort Riko and Kuroi to Jujutsu High 19 20.
When Toji Fushiguro ambushes Gojo, Geto attacks with a sandworm before following Gojo’s instruction to take Riko into the Tombs of the Star Corridor. He emerges ready to fight Toji, but stands down after Ze identifies Toji as his teacher 20 22.
Crisis of Conviction
Geto grows discouraged by Gojo and Ze’s overwhelming strength while becoming exhausted by repetitive exorcism missions and the revolting taste of cursed-spirit orbs. He dreams of a world without Ze in which his friendship with Gojo collapses and Gojo eventually kills him 22 26 27 28.
Ze organizes a day out with their friends to relieve his isolation. The outing helps temporarily, but an unseen voice subsequently questions why Geto protects non-sorcerers rather than cursed spirits. Geto begins wondering whether non-sorcerers, who produce curses, indirectly cause sorcerers’ deaths 27 28.
After discussing the origins of curses with Yuki Tsukumo and Ze, Geto considers alternatives to endless exorcism. Ze also sends him on a supposedly Grade 2 mission with Yu Haibara and Kento Nanami; Geto defeats the actual Grade 1 spirit and saves both juniors 28 29.
On September 23, 2007, Geto discovers Nanako and Mimiko imprisoned and abused by villagers. His anger brings him close to killing the villagers, but Ze intervenes. Geto frees the girls, fights Ze, and ultimately concedes when faced with Mahoraga’s positive-energy Sword of Extermination 29 30.
Rather than abandon jujutsu society, Geto agrees to help Ze reform it. Ze offers a way to punish abusive non-sorcerers through the institutions he intends to change, giving Geto an alternative to becoming a curse user 30.
Teaching and Kenjaku’s Ambush
After graduation, Geto and Gojo remain at Jujutsu High as teachers. Geto also cares for Nanako and Mimiko, who become his adopted daughters and students 31 37.
Kenjaku ambushes Geto on his way home, declaring that he wants Cursed Spirit Manipulation. He severs and takes Geto’s finger, overwhelms his defenses, and fuses a black bead into his body before leaving him unconscious. Kenjaku avoids killing him because he fears Geto’s thousands of absorbed spirits might run wild 31.
Although Geto eventually resumes his work, he loses memories of his three school years and becomes less close to his old friends. He instead remembers an ordinary upbringing and a late awakening of his technique; these recollections are explicitly false. Ze confirms that Kenjaku has not taken over Geto’s body 37 39 40 41.
Shuten Doji Mission
At Ze’s request, Geto investigates killings near Osaka with Kiyotaka Ijichi. He subdues a special-grade spirit outside a palace, then enters and confronts Shuten Doji after witnessing the curse murder a captive woman 40 41.
Geto wins through a combination of his expanded arsenal, Uzumaki, domain tactics, and burnout recovery. Absorbing Shuten Doji brings back indistinct memories of his conversation with Ze beneath the stars and the two girls standing nearby. A later reunion with Gojo, Ze, and Shoko also feels familiar, though his memories remain incomplete 42 43 44.
Ze subsequently entrusts him with leading Yuji Itadori’s team into the Juvenile Detention Center. The assignment is intended to protect Yuji from a Higher-Up trap involving a special-grade curse and prevent Sukuna from causing harm if he takes control 44.
Appearance
Geto wears his hair in a neat bun with unusually shaped bangs. During his period of exhaustion at school, he develops heavy dark circles and appears to have lost weight 9 22 27.
- Distinctive hairstyle: The bun and unusual bangs remain recognizable when he appears as an adult teacher 36.
- Frequent expression: A gentle smile, sometimes forced to conceal discouragement 22 27.
Personality
Geto initially treats protecting weak non-sorcerers as a sorcerer’s responsibility. He is courteous and welcoming, but readily challenges Gojo’s dismissive attitude. Their friendship accommodates both serious ideological arguments and playful teasing 9 16 27.
He tends to hide distress rather than seek help. Feeling outpaced by his closest friends, enduring solitary missions, and repeatedly consuming cursed spirits erode his confidence and ideals. His protective instincts toward fellow sorcerers eventually turn into anger at non-sorcerers who mistreat them 22 27 28 29.
Following his memory loss, Geto becomes more emotionally distant but retains his sense of justice. He remains disgusted by curses that slaughter people and approaches intelligent opponents cautiously. As a teacher, he also favors practical institutional change over Gojo’s impulse to kill the Higher-Ups 39 41 44.
Abilities & Skills
Cursed Spirit Manipulation
Geto subdues cursed spirits, converts them into orbs, and swallows them to add them to his controllable arsenal. He regards the technique’s strength as its varied, complex attacks rather than sheer numbers alone 28 40 42.
- Coordinated attacks: Combines restraints, charging spirits, projectiles, and his own close combat 40 41.
- Reinforcement: Strengthens controlled spirits with his cursed energy, including cuttlefish used to pin tentacles and a spherical defensive spirit 40 42.
- Tracking: Uses a crawling, two-headed spirit to locate a target by scent 40.
- Consumption burden: Describes ordinary cursed-spirit orbs as tasting like a rag used to wipe up vomit. Coating one with honey fails to improve the experience 27 28.
- Counter: Mahoraga’s positive-energy Sword of Extermination is a natural enemy of his cursed spirits; Geto admits he cannot defeat it during his fight with Ze 30.
Notable Controlled Spirits
| Spirit | Documented Use |
|---|---|
| Sand Dune Worm / sandworm | Swallows a mission target and later attacks Toji; Toji cuts it apart 16 20. |
| Fungus | Pink spirit used to torment the captured curse user Kekun 19. |
| Gunfish | Fired from Geto’s fingertips as projectiles 29. |
| Centipede spirits | Used as a swarm and to restrain Kenjaku 29 31. |
| Squid | Counters Ze’s fire attacks with ink 30. |
| Rainbow Dragon | Large white dragon used for high-speed charges, ramming, and biting attacks 31 41. |
| Slit-Mouthed Woman | Geto’s strongest spirit during his school-era fight with Ze; uses scissors, clears lesser curses, and provides Simple Domain 30 31 41. |
| One-eyed spirit | Bursts from the ground to deliver powerful punches 30 41. |
| Three-eyed ox-shaped spirit | Performs adjustable charges and changes direction in midair; damage depends on Geto’s cursed energy reserves 40. |
| Tentacled special-grade spirit | Absorbed outside the palace and then used to restrain Shuten Doji 40 41. |
| Tamamo-no-Mae Incarnate | Imaginary special-grade spirit that amplifies Geto’s cursed energy and output 42. |
| Earthquake Catfish | Creates the sensation of falling into an abyss, causing Shuten Doji to trip in place 42. |
| Shuten Doji | Absorbed after defeat; no subsequent deployment is shown in the supplied chapters 43. |
Maximum Technique: Uzumaki
Uzumaki merges absorbed spirits into ultra-dense cursed energy for a concentrated attack 42.
- Geto expends 4,000 spirits against Shuten Doji, destroying half its body without killing it 42.
- He mentions having largely understood an additional hidden use, but does not explain that use in the supplied passage 42.
Domain Expansion: Binding of a Hundred Demons
The domain resembles a pitch-black pool from which cursed spirits emerge. Its guaranteed-hit effect creates spirits with cursed energy; enemies they strike gradually lose their own cursed energy 42.
- Domain clash: Initially matches Shuten Doji’s Wind-Governing Imperial Scenery 42.
- Barrier modification: Opens half the barrier through a binding vow, then attacks the opposing domain from outside; both domains collapse 42.
- Finishing application: A second expansion exhausts Shuten Doji’s remaining cursed energy and enables absorption 43.
Reverse Cursed Technique
Geto can heal physical injuries and restore his burned-out cursed technique 31 43.
- Begins healing his finger after Kenjaku severs it 31.
- Restores his technique quickly enough to expand his domain again during the Shuten Doji fight 43.
- His first combat attempt at burnout recovery causes a nosebleed; he suspects damage to his brain 43.
Taijutsu and Cursed-Energy Reinforcement
Geto combines trained hand-to-hand combat with spirit support and weapon attacks 9 41.
- Reinforces his hands strongly enough to catch Ze’s charging Piercing Ox 30.
- Blocks Kenjaku’s punch even while under severe domain-imposed gravity 31.
- Uses Playful Cloud to restrain limbs, parry a katana, and strike while his spirits create openings 41 42.
- Has not landed a Black Flash as of Chapter 48 48.
Simple Domain Support
Geto accesses Simple Domain through Slit-Mouthed Woman rather than a separately demonstrated personal technique 31.
- Temporarily removes Kenjaku’s imposed gravity 31.
- Is immediately overwhelmed by Kenjaku’s Domain Expansion: Constant Weight Village 31.
Equipment / Weapons / Items

- Kiyotaka Ijichi — Assistant supervisor who supports his Osaka mission and handles the remaining cursed residue 40 43.
- Yuji Itadori — New student whom Geto helps enroll and agrees to protect during the planned Juvenile Detention Center mission 36 44.
