His later discovery of the Purifying Spirit Hall changed his understanding of soul cultivation. His willingness to accept dangerous methods does not erase his concern for victims. After rebuilding his cultivation in secret, Xiao Yan conceals his strength from most of the clan and reclaims resources seized by Xiao Hu. His first Soul Hall mission sends him to Black Wind Village, where he joins Zhang Wulang’s cleanup squad, absorbs the demonized chief’s energy, and confronts the human cost of his soul art 4 5.

Following an auction, Jia Lie Bi and Oba Pa ambush him for his purchases. He kills them and their fighters with Mysterious Yellow Flame and his heavy sword. Their families’ decline leaves the Xiao Clan as Wutan City’s sole great clan 7 8.

Otherworldly Demon Lair and the Purifying Spirit Legacy

Victory at the Spirit Gathering Assembly earns him a place on the lair expedition. His purification flame clears corrupted creatures and demonic markings. With Yun Yun and Lin Xiu, he destroys the Ancient Altar’s black crystal and escapes the pursuing Otherworldly Demon Lord 10 11 14.

On the return journey, he learns of the Purifying Spirit Hall’s destruction and subdues Green Lotus Core Flame. He later infiltrates the Fog Forest stronghold and recovers Yao Chen’s scripture and letter, revealing a plan to release the Ancient Otherworldly Demon Lord 16 17.

Misty Cloud Sect Conflict

Xiao Yan defeats Nalan Yanran, but Yun Leng accuses him of being a Soul Hall spy and orders his capture. He reveals his Six-Star Dou Wang strength and leaves. When the sect attacks the Xiao Clan and Xiao Zhan disappears, he returns alone and is nearly killed by the demon-empowered Yun Shan 19 20 22.

After recovery, he joins the resistance against Yun Shan and the corrupted families. The postwar settlement turns former enemies into comrades; Xiao Yan subsequently proposes converting the ruined sect into a defense fortress jointly maintained by the Xiao Clan and Spirit Gatherer Association 23 24 25.

Xiao Gate and Jia Nan Academy

Central Plains Competitions and Anti-Demon Alliance

Separated from his companions by a Spatial Storm, Xiao Yan receives aid from the Wang Family caravan. He wins the Pill Tower competitions for the family, gains the Sixth Elder’s help with flame fusion, and learns that rescuing Xiao Zhan requires sufficient strength and three Boundary-Breaking Keys 35 36 37.

He wins the Soul Hall Hunting Competition and helps expose the Ye Family and Blood Soul Hall’s demonic connections. During the hall masters’ resurrection crisis, his purification of the formation’s central scale weakens the enemy and earns him the name “Purifier” 39 40 41.

His later campaign clears thirty-seven outposts in three months and rescues more than two hundred controlled experts. Alongside Yao Qing Lin and Wang Yue, he frees Xuan Kongzi, restores corrupted regions, and teaches resistance to demonic contamination 44.

World-Devouring Demon Crisis

Xiao Yan acquires Demon Flame and Heaven and Earth Thunderflame, learns of a prophecy connecting the flames to the World-Devouring Demon’s defeat, and strengthens himself at the Spirit Source Pool 46 47 48.

At the Ten Thousand Demons Cave, Blood Slaughter destroys the allied defensive formation. Xiao Yan’s breakthrough to One-Star Dou Sheng allows him to purify the attacker inside his new domain. With reinforcements arriving, he rallies the survivors for the approaching main force 50.
