• Crystals and cores: Its energy occurs in demonic crystals, an altar’s black crystal, and the magic cores carried by demons 5 12 14 49.
• Large-scale atmospheric effects: Concentrated Demonic Qi can blot out the sky and sun. During the attack on the Yao Clan, it stains the moonlight dark purple 1 41.

Corruption of Living Beings

Demonic Qi can mutate bodies, destabilize cultivation, and destroy or suppress a victim’s reason.

• Human demonization: Black Wind Village’s inhabitants develop swollen, twisted bodies, blue-black skin, blade-like nails, and bloodthirsty behavior. They continue attacking despite severe injuries 5.
• Magical-beast corruption: A Fifth-Rank Demon Wolf is completely corrupted, while the Amethyst Winged Lion King’s Reverse Scale carries removable corruption marks 11.
• Mental erosion: Ye Zhong’s mind is consumed by Demonic Qi; his demon mark transforms him into a thirty-foot monster with a mid-Dou Zong aura 43.
• Interaction with existing conditions: Contamination drives Xiao Yi Xian’s Woeful Poison Body out of control and changes her temperament. Removing the demonic remnant soul does not eliminate her body’s innate toxicity 26.
• Exposure routes: Contaminated mist can be inhaled, while Otherworldly Demon poison spreads through wounds during the Misty Cloud Sect battle 24 26.

Energy and Material Corrosion

• Dou Qi erosion: The atmosphere inside the Otherworldly Demon Lair corrodes Dou Qi, forcing travelers to maintain protective barriers 12.
• Contaminating flames: The Seven-Eyed Demon Snake King’s demonic flames contaminate Dou Qi and prevent opponents from fully using their strength 13.

• Shattered soul fragments mixed with absorbed energy stab at Xiao Yan’s sea of consciousness and nearly make him faint 5.
• Xiao Yan must erect a Dou Qi barrier to prevent the incoming Demonic Qi from eroding his heart meridians 5.
• Balancing demonic and purifying powers is painful and unstable. After fusion with the Otherworldly Demon Origin, his gold-and-black flames can both purify and erode, making their balance increasingly difficult to control 6 45.

Purification and Countermeasures

Heavenly Flames

• Mysterious Yellow Flame: Removes contamination from weapons, corpses, beast materials, and absorbed energy 6 11 14.
• Guided purification: After receiving the First Hall Master’s origin, Xiao Yan develops purification that preserves a creature’s original consciousness. A corrupted Dark Shadow Demon Wolf returns to a docile silver wolf 43 44.
• Demon Flame: Born where Demonic Qi is most concentrated, it devours that energy. An Ancient Demon Suppression Warrior sealed it in the Ten Thousand Demons Cave to purify the area 46.
• Heaven and Earth Thunderflame: Works with the Demon Flame to remove Demonic Qi from spiritual mist and an ancient staff 47.

Arrays, Barriers, and Medicines

• Protective barriers: Lin Xiu’s barrier requires spiritual-power replenishment every hour inside the lair 12.
• Myriad Spirits Purification Arrays: Operate across major mountain ranges, gradually restoring polluted land 41 42.
• Forbidden Spell Formation: Contains Demonic Qi within the Ten Thousand Demons Cave’s forbidden zone 46.

Limits

• Zhang Wulang initially describes the Black Wind villagers’ corruption as irreversible. Later purification methods successfully rescue other corrupted humans and beasts 5 26 44.
• Purification does not automatically remove unrelated dangers, including the innate poison of Xiao Yi Xian’s Woeful Poison Body 26.
• The Pill Tower’s records warn that purified Demonic Qi may revive if the true Otherworldly Demon Origin’s connection to the Central Plains is not severed 45.
• Demonic Qi remains dangerous during the World-Devouring Demon campaign: Wang Yue suffers corrosion despite the alliance’s developed defenses 49.

History

Demonic Qi first appears during the Otherworldly Demon Emperor’s invasion, overwhelming settlements and darkening the continent’s skies. Xiao Xuan’s Heavenly Flames Eternal Ancient Ruler burns it away along its path, while the Xiao and Soul Clans unite against the invading legion 1.

Its use later divides the Soul Hall. Hai Bodong reports that emissaries cultivate Otherworldly Demon qi and seek to exploit the demon source for Soul Pills. The Purifying Spirit Hall instead advocates purification through soul arts and is nearly destroyed by the evil faction. Yao Chen’s letter subsequently reveals that the faction’s ultimate aim is to release the sealed Ancient Otherworldly Demon Lord 15 16 17.

After acquiring guided purification, Xiao Yan leads a three-month campaign that clears thirty-seven Otherworldly Demon Hall outposts and rescues more than two hundred controlled experts. He continues purifying lingering Demonic Qi and teaching resistance to corruption, but the Outer Demon Realm revelations and the World-Devouring Demon’s invading forces expose a renewed threat beyond the defeated hall masters 44 45 49 50.
