Power Progression

These developments concern individual corrupted hosts and resurrected leaders, not a universal advancement sequence for all Otherworldly Demons.

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Village chief: former Dou Shi → peak Da Dou Shi 5 Corruption enlarged his body and produced a special demonic energy crystal. He attempted to advance toward Dou Ling, but Xiao Yan interrupted him by absorbing his energy.

Their formation allowed continued strengthening through demonic qi absorption.

Nature and Origins

  • Early understanding: Soul Hall texts described contamination as corruption by an evil power from beyond the world 4.
  • Fallen Abyss account: An ancient book placed their origin in the Central Plains’ Fallen Abyss, where several Dou Di had sealed them a thousand years earlier. Its weakening seal supposedly allowed their spread into outlying regions 32.
  • Human emotional origin: After receiving the First Hall Master’s origin, Xiao Yan learned that Otherworldly Demons manifested from humanity’s negative emotions. Effective purification required guidance rather than destruction 43.
  • Outer Demon Realm: Later Pill Tower records located the true Otherworldly Demon Origin beyond the continent. They stated that the First Hall Master had merged with only a fragment, while the greater origin approached the Central Plains once every thousand years 45.
  • The approaching threat: A Dream Soul Flower’s message clarified that the force expected in three years was the World-Devouring Demon’s vanguard, not merely the returning origin 45.

Origin of the Otherworldly Demon Hall

The First Hall Master was originally a human Dou Sheng researching purification. He willingly merged with the Otherworldly Demon Origin, lost control of his mind, and founded the Otherworldly Demon Hall. This corrected the earlier account that he had simply been corrupted by demons 43.

Connection to the World-Devouring Demon

  • Otherworldly Demons in the Outer Demon Realm were shown kneeling before the World-Devouring Demon. Its aura surpassed the combined might of the twelve Hall Masters and the first-generation Hall Master 45.
  • The World-Devouring Demon was itself an artificial weapon: ancient human cultivators fused multiple forms of demonic qi to fight Otherworldly Demons. It escaped their control and became an overlord beyond the continent 46.

Forms and Power Rankings

Otherworldly Demons have no single body type. Documented forms include humanoid shadows, armored warriors, animal-like demons, and transformed human hosts.

Abilities & Skills

Demonic Corrosion

Otherworldly Demon energy attacks living bodies, defensive energy, weapons, and the land itself.

  • The Emperor’s dark Dou Qi withered vegetation and devastated living beings 1.
  • Concentrated demonic qi eroded Dou Qi barriers around the Ancient Altar 14.
  • Demonic poison spread through wounds and lingered in Xiao Yan’s meridians after Yun Shan’s attack 23 24.
  • Corrosion damaged Yao Qing Lin’s sword and ruined medicinal fields during the attack on the Yao Clan 41.
  • Residual acid and poison gas left honeycombed rocks and scarred terrain in the Soulbreak Gobi 33.

Corruption and Possession

Demonic qi can destroy a victim’s reason, deform their body, or place them under external control.

  • Humans: Black Wind Village’s inhabitants developed swollen, twisted bodies, blue-black skin, blade-like nails, and bloodthirsty behavior 5.
  • Magical beasts: Contaminated wolves lost their reason, while a Fifth-Rank Demon Wolf developed bone armor and green-burning eyes 11 27.
  • Remnant souls: A demon remnant hid within Xiao Yi Xian’s Woeful Poison Body, destabilizing her poison and changing her temperament 26.
  • Remote control: The First Hall Master’s remnant soul controlled the Ye Family and later manipulated alliance members inside the Ancient Ruins 43.
  • Breeding experiments: Guards at the Black Wind Valley altar were reportedly researching the use of magical beasts to breed demonic warriors 26.

According to Zhang Wulang, demonic energy remaining in the heart meridians for more than seven days completely devoured the soul, leaving a slaughter-driven walking corpse. Later purification campaigns rescued controlled victims, but the context does not establish that already-devoured souls could be restored 5 24 44.

Soul Consumption and Magic Cores

  • Shadow Demon Lords specialize in soul-devouring techniques 14.
  • Soul Clan attacks disrupted the invading demons’ magic cores and broke their formations 1.
  • Demonic cores contain usable energy. Xiao Yan’s Soul Absorption Technique extracted energy from a corrupted host, though shattered soul fragments painfully assaulted his consciousness 5.
  • Magic Core Crystals determined scores in the Soul Hall’s hunting competition; an eighth-tier crystal was worth one hundred low-tier crystals 38.

Spatial Rifts and Resurrection

  • The Emperor entered the continent through a rift in the void 1.
  • Otherworldly Demon Altar power produced a vortex filled with phantom warriors and bony claws inside a collapsing Space Wormhole 34.
  • The Ye Family guarded a rift to the Otherworldly Demon World, while Blood Soul Hall supplied soul energy to enable an invasion 40.
  • Thirteen altars drew souls from captured Yao Clan disciples to revive the Hall Masters 41.

Energy Absorption and Shared Power

  • The Qi-Devouring Demon Bear consumes Dou Qi and surrounding spiritual energy, making conventional attacks ineffective 42.
  • The Thirteen Soul-Sealing Formation converted spiritual energy into demonic qi and allowed its Hall Masters to share power 41.
  • Purifying the formation’s core caused all thirteen leaders to weaken; the Seventh Hall Master fell from Half-Saint to Peak Dou Zun 41.

Weaknesses and Countermeasures

Purifying Flames

  • The Mysterious Yellow Flame restrained and burned Otherworldly Demon Origin beneath Black Wind Village 6.
  • It removed corruption from the Amethyst Winged Lion King’s Reverse Scale and helped destroy a remnant soul inside Xiao Yi Xian 11 26.
  • Purifying Xiao Yi Xian did not cure the inherent instability of her Woeful Poison Body 26.
  • Xiao Yan’s later gold-and-black flames freed controlled victims and restored polluted spiritual veins 44.
  • Fusion with the Demon Flame added demonic-qi consumption to his purification power, allowing blackened soil to recover and a corrupted Demon Flood Dragon to be purified 46.

Soul Techniques and Seals

  • Soul Clan soul threads interfered with magic cores during the original invasion 1.
  • Hun Tiandi’s Ten-Thousand-Year Seal imprisoned the Emperor after he burned ninety percent of his soul origin 1.
  • A Soul Hall envoy burned his soul origin to destroy Yun Shan’s internal demon core 24.

Destroying Power Sources

  • Shattering the Ancient Altar’s black crystal dispersed its concentrated demonic qi 14.
  • Purifying the Otherworldly Demon Scale broke the Thirteen Soul-Sealing Formation 41.
  • Destroying a Hall Master’s life-bound weapon sharply reduces its strength 41.
  • The Nine-Palace Spirit-Locking Array can temporarily cut a Qi-Devouring Demon Bear off from surrounding spiritual energy 42.

Equipment and Ritual Objects

  • Black crystal — Released the demonic qi at the Otherworldly Demon Lair’s Ancient Altar 14.
  • Otherworldly Demon Scale — Carried spatial-law runes and served as the core of the Hall Masters’ resurrection-linked formation 41.
  • Earth-Splitting Axe — The First Hall Master’s life-bound weapon; capable of cleaving space 41.
  • Mountain-Suppressing Hammer — The Third Hall Master’s life-bound weapon; amplified his physical strength 41.
  • Soul-Devourer Spear — The Seventh Hall Master’s life-bound weapon; consumed souls and pierced Xiao Yan’s protective armor 41.
  • Soul-Reaping Scythe — The Thirteenth Hall Master’s life-bound weapon; specialized in severing living souls 41.

History

Original Invasion

The Otherworldly Demon Emperor’s legion destroyed cities, devastated farmland, and erased ancient cultivation texts and arts. Xiao Xuan and Hun Tiandi set aside their clans’ feud, fighting more than one hundred battles through coordinated Dou Qi and soul techniques 1.

In the final battle, Hun Tiandi sacrificed his life force to seal the Emperor, while Xiao Xuan died intercepting the Emperor’s demonic lightning. Surviving allied Dou Sheng killed the remaining invaders. The war cost the Xiao Clan its Dou Di bloodline and drove the surviving Soul Clan into the hidden Soul Realm 1.

Renewed Corruption

Black Wind Village became an early center of contamination encountered by Xiao Yan. His later expedition into the Otherworldly Demon Lair destroyed an altar crystal but failed to eliminate its Dou Huang-level guardian 5 14.

Hai Bodong attributed the altars to Soul Hall activity and described an apparent Soul Pill project. Yao Chen’s letter instead warned of a plan to release an Ancient Otherworldly Demon Lord. Later events also showed Soul Hall members actively opposing demons, leaving its relationship with the threat more complicated than those initial reports suggested 15 17 24 37.

Jia Ma Empire Crisis

Yun Shan accepted demonic power and commanded corrupted family disciples against the empire’s defenders. A Soul Hall envoy sacrificed himself to annihilate Yun Shan and his demon core. Xiao Yan then organized purification teams and resistance forces across the Jia Ma Empire 22 23 24.

Surviving corruption remained active in the Fog Forest and Black Wind Valley, where an altar contaminated Xiao Yi Xian and was associated with plans to sacrifice Xiao Zhan’s bloodline 26.

Hall Masters and the Central Plains

Blood Soul Hall and the Ye Family prepared a soul-powered invasion ritual. The demons attacked the Yao Clan ahead of schedule, and Ye Gucheng used captured disciples to resurrect the Thirteen Hall Masters 40 41.

Xiao Yan purified the formation’s core while the Sixth Elder held off its defenders. The Thirteenth Hall Master was killed, and surviving leaders fled. A subsequent purification campaign restored spiritual veins while allied factions hunted the fugitives; reports then placed them at a Frozen Wasteland altar intended to revive a sealed Dou Sheng-level master 41.

Purification Campaign and External Threat

After the Frozen Wasteland conflict, the Soul Hall led the formation of the Demon-Extermination Alliance. Xiao Yan later entered the Ancient Ruins, received the First Hall Master’s origin, and gained a deeper understanding of purification 42 43.

A three-month campaign cleared thirty-seven outposts and rescued more than two hundred controlled experts, including Xuan Kongzi. Clearing the final outpost did not end the threat: information from the Outer Demon Realm revealed the approaching World-Devouring Demon forces 44 45.

Blood Slaughter, a Dou Sheng-level leader of the World-Devouring Demon Main Force’s vanguard, eventually appeared above the Ten Thousand Demons Cave 50.

Relationships

  • Xiao Yan — Principal purifier and opponent of their renewed spread; his methods evolve from extracting and destroying demonic energy to guiding and purifying it 5 43 46.
  • Xiao Xuan — Led the Xiao Clan against the original invasion and died shielding the continent from the Emperor’s attack 1.
  • Hun Tiandi — Allied with Xiao Xuan and sacrificed himself to seal the Emperor 1.
  • Soul Hall — Some members were implicated in demonic schemes, while others hunted demons, organized allied resistance, and sacrificed themselves against the threat 15 17 24 38 42.
  • Yun Shan — Accepted an Otherworldly Demon Lord’s power and became a half-demon host before his internal core was destroyed 22 23 24.
  • Ye Family — Initially presented as hereditary collaborators; later evidence revealed control by the First Hall Master’s remnant soul 40 43.
  • Blood Soul Hall — Supplied sacrificial soul energy for the invasion rift and maintained altars across the Central Plains 40.
  • World-Devouring Demon — Overlord worshipped by demons in the Outer Demon Realm; the Otherworldly Demon Hall served as an outpost of its forces 45.
