Having finally drawn out something unusual, Zhao Xun immediately perked up.
He promptly pressed for more details. "He kept bumping into things? Were the roads poorly paved and easy to trip over, or had the eldest young master's eyesight deteriorated?"
The Top Scholar paused, seemingly never having considered the possibilities Zhao Xun had raised.
After a long moment, he shook his head helplessly. "I didn't ask for specifics, and he wasn't willing to say much, so I don't know exactly what caused it."
At that, a look of interest appeared in Zhao Xun's eyes.
If the Top Scholar simply hadn't asked, it would have been difficult to glean anything useful from that.
But the Top Scholar had said the eldest young master "wasn't willing to say much." That meant something different altogether.
If the cause were ordinary, there would be no need to conceal it.
Since he was concealing it, there had to be something he couldn't reveal.
At a time like this, whatever he couldn't reveal could very well be a clue to finding the doll.
However, since the eldest young master refused to talk, continuing to question the Top Scholar would be pointless.
He needed another way to investigate the eldest young master's situation.
With that in mind, Zhao Xun asked the Top Scholar about several other members of the household. When he failed to obtain any more useful information, he fell silent.
For the remainder of the meal, Zhao Xun rarely spoke, aside from exchanging occasional pleasantries with the others.
He couldn't go out of his way to chat with someone seated far away. That would attract too much attention.
As for the two people beside him, they had already covered everything they could discuss. Anything else was off-limits for now, so he might as well eat
