Devour

Zhao Xun’s Devour provides the most fully documented upgrade sequence.

Mental Power Restoration

The following level effects are explained by Zhao Xun’s adoptive mother; they are not a documented upgrade timeline for Xiao Hong.

System Mechanics

Assignment and Rarity

• Players ordinarily possess one special ability. Zhao Xun’s ability to use several powers leads other players to suspect special items or an unusually generous beginner gift pack 83 117.
• Ordinary abilities can have multiple owners. Strength Enhancement, Fire Control, Metal Control, and metallic-body abilities recur among different players 8 50 72 117 180 224.
• “One of a Kind” is a distinct rarity. Confirmed examples include Devour, Su Tiantian’s Demon Ghost/Evil Spirit, Instructor Wu’s Spatial Movement, Whistle’s Wi-Fi Signal Tower, and Zhaozhao’s Absolute Good Luck 1 137 167 178 199 220.
• After Devour fails to acquire Spatial Movement even after its owner dies, Zhao Xun concludes that unique abilities return to the beginner-gift pool on death. This is his explanation of the failed acquisition, rather than a displayed system rule 170.

Levels and Upgrade Effects

• Upgrades cost points, creating a trade-off between combat strength, daily expenses, and points ranking. One player remains at lv1 because he fears spending his reserves 122.
• Higher levels can add functions, not merely increase attack size. Fire Control lv3 includes generating, recalling, and shaping flames; Mental Power Restoration lv3 adds mental-power absorption 162 259.
• Level does not remove all weaknesses. Killing Mart’s metallic body remains vulnerable to electricity, while Instructor Wu’s Spatial Movement has exploitable gaps in its passive protection 117 169.
• Copied abilities cannot be upgraded independently. Devour notifications repeatedly state this restriction, even when the copied power receives amplification 72 93 137 196.
• Devour upgrades do not automatically strengthen existing copies. Blade Transformation remains weakened after Devour reaches lv2, and the earlier Metal Control copy remains unamplified until replaced with a new acquisition 72 172 246.

Mental Power

• Mental Power is a hidden stat that does not appear as a separate entry in the player information panel. Experienced users can nevertheless sense their expenditure and limits 75.
• Most special abilities depend on both their inherent restrictions and the user’s Mental Power. For control abilities, relevant limits include object size, number, precision, and duration 75.
• Zhao Xun suspects Mental Power explains why he creates enormous weapons with Blade Transformation while its original owner produces only a kitchen knife. He also senses that repeated combat increases Mental Power slowly 75.
• Heavy expenditure causes physical discomfort. Rapidly using several abilities leaves Zhao Xun with throbbing temples, cold sweat, and pale lips even before his reserves are exhausted 259.
• Some powers have no daily use limit, but remain constrained by mental energy. Examples include Lightning Control’s paralysis attacks and the amplified Psychic Ability’s mental control 137 196.
• Possessing several abilities does not grant unlimited simultaneous use: Zhao Xun’s attention and focus remain finite 178.

Acquisition and Transfer

Devour

Devour acquires powers through an item belonging to a selected target 1.

• The user must hold the item between their teeth for three continuous seconds 1 178.
• The item must have been on the target’s person for more than 24 hours, and must have been removed no more than one hour earlier 1 178.
• Valid materials include monster skin, hair, clothing, tickets, blood, and nail clippings 2 4 5 14 137.
• It can acquire abilities from monsters as well as people 2.
• Ordinary acquired abilities persist until overwritten. At full capacity, an existing ability must be discarded to obtain another 41 83 178.
• The overwrite occurs before the new ability’s usefulness is fully known, making unfamiliar acquisitions risky 245.

Ability Injector

• Transfers a selected ability by drawing blood from an ability user and injecting it into another person 277.
• Each 0.1 milliliters grants one hour of use; its one-milliliter capacity allows a maximum of ten hours per injection 277.
• If the donor has multiple abilities, only one may be selected. The item holder chooses the ability drawn or granted 277.
• Receiving another injection from the same donor within one month causes severe rejection and ultimately death 277.

Restrictions and Suppression

Dream Games

• Players cannot use special abilities during any Dream Game main quest. Special items remain usable 147 154.
• Abilities become available after the main quest is completed, as demonstrated when Zhao Xun resumes Metal Control and Lightning Control 143.

Shackles of Cowardice

This collar suppresses abilities while making its wearer timid, fearful, and obedient. Its duration depends on the item owner’s special ability level 153 258.

Documented Abilities

Physical Enhancement and Transformation

Mud transformation	At lv1, the user must keep the transformed body intact: lost mud becomes an injury after returning to human form 122.
Beastification lv5	Transforms the whole body or selected parts and grants corresponding beast traits. Zhao Xun’s amplified version allows up to five beast forms on different body parts and amplifies two chosen traits fivefold 247.

Weapon Creation and Elemental Control

Evil Spirit

• Evil Spirit lv5 turns the souls of people killed by its holder into absolutely loyal Ghost Servants, including people killed before the ability was acquired 178.
