After leaving the general store and reaching a surveillance blind spot, Zhao Xun transformed from a cockroach into a rat again, darting along the walls toward the Technology Building.
He had essentially established the objective of the side quest. Whether the fugitive couple lived or died would not affect its progress, so he had no need to protect them, much less linger here.
For now, neither the side quest nor the hidden mission required urgent attention. He could set them aside and deal with them later.
It was time to settle the score with Demon.
As Zhao Xun ran, he suddenly felt his phone vibrate. He found a surveillance blind spot, took out his phone, and answered.
White Coat's somewhat excited voice came from the other end. "The people you asked me to watch have appeared!"
"Who?" Unlike White Coat, Zhao Xun did not wear his emotions on his sleeve. He even asked for clarification.
After all, White Coat did not yet know that he no longer needed to track the fugitive couple. To White Coat, "the people under surveillance" did not necessarily mean Demon.
"The couple," White Coat replied.
An unsurprised look crossed Zhao Xun's face before he said, "You don't need to watch those two anymore."
White Coat paused, but quickly agreed. "All right, understood."
"Then I just need to focus on watching that man called Demon, right?" he asked.
For convenience, Zhao Xun had told White Coat Demon's nickname.
"Yes." Zhao Xun asked another question. "He still hasn't left the Laboratory?"
"No," White Coat muttered. "I have no idea what he's doing in there. He's been there so long, even I'm getting curious."
"Contact me when there's a new development." With that, Zhao Xun hung up.
He put his phone away and continued toward the Technology Building.
