Ye Qing prepared for the school’s wilderness expedition by getting his mother’s consent and training Monferno and Feebas at Jinxi Forest. He taught Monferno Flamethrower and considered when to use his rare Protect TM.

• Zhao Xinran handed out expedition agreements, and Ye Qing’s mother signed his after he affirmed he wanted to participate.
• Ye Qing encouraged Ye Menghan to pursue her studies, showed her his savings, and offered to buy her Berries for learning about Pokéblocks.
• Ye Qing bought Berries and a Flamethrower TM, then went to Jinxi Forest for special training ahead of the expedition.

Ye Qing and his Pokémon endured a prolonged standoff with an injured, hungry Ursaring in a tree, wearing it down through the night. When Ursaring finally charged at noon, Ye Qing’s plan to stop it with Fake Out and Hypnosis faltered, leaving him to rely on Quick Guard.

• Ursaring repeatedly struck the tree while Ye Qing, Monferno, and Feebas defended themselves with ranged attacks.

After evolving and driving off Gyarados, Milotic helped Ye Qing discover that a hole beneath the waterfall led to an air-filled underground space. She returned from scouting it, but the passage was nearly a hundred meters long, leaving Ye Qing unsure how he could reach the space without breathing equipment.

• Gyarados fled after tossing the Damp Rock, which Milotic caught, while nearby Pokémon fought to impress her.

Ye Qing uncovered a Pokémon Egg in a limestone cave, and its Confusion shock wave combined with his Spoon Mark to draw his consciousness into a vision of the Egg’s past. He witnessed the injured Gallade flee from Pokémon Hunters and teleport away with Zoroark as Gallade’s final act of protection.

• Ye Qing had Monferno investigate a strange, rocklike object in the cave, and Monferno’s kick cracked its hardened-mud shell to reveal a white Pokémon Egg with blue and orange patterns.

Ye Qing challenged Seviper for five Razz Berries, and Monferno defeated her in a one-on-one battle. After collecting the berries and giving Seviper Poison-type Pokéblocks, Ye Qing led his Pokémon toward the next place as a passing teacher watched in disbelief.

• Ye Qing negotiated a one-on-one battle with Seviper, wagering that he would leave if Monferno lost and receive five Razz Berries if Monferno won.

Principal Jiang found Ye Qing enjoying himself on the island and brought him back with the other students. Before they reached the city, a wild Pokémon invasion forced Jiang to summon most of the group to help.

• Principal Jiang decided to let the training continue for seven days, then flew off to find Ye Qing after the dean hinted that his situation was unusual.
• Principal Jiang found Ye Qing relaxing beside the river with Pokémon serving him and brought him back to Wailord.
• Ye Qing reunited with the students and confirmed to Fujii Gongshu that their agreement still stood.
• Principal Jiang received a report of a wild Pokémon invasion and ordered Zhao Xinran and a few others to remain on Wailord while everyone else returned to the city to help.
