Since it seemed some of you still weren't quite clear on things, let me, Youxin, explain everything again from the beginning:

In Takahashi's original work, after the Shikon Jewel was destroyed, Kagome chose to remain in the Warring States era. Everyone found their own place, and the story ended there.

But according to the analyses people have posted online, the Shikon Jewel wasn't actually destroyed completely. I already laid out the argument for that in the author's notes. So that's where my story began, though it also involved some other settings specific to this fic.

First, in this fic, Naraku wasn't just an ordinary half-demon. In the original, a spider feared Kikyo's power, so it brought a host of monsters to strike a bargain with the powerful Onigumo. Onigumo sold his soul to the monsters, and those monsters merged together to give birth to a new monster: the half-demon Naraku. In Japanese, "naraku" can mean hell, as well as an endless abyss. So I let my imagination run wild, combined the backgrounds of Inuyasha and Hell Girl, and made that spider the evil avatar of the lord of Hell. I also borrowed from the Taoist path to sagehood: attaining sagehood by severing the Three Corpses. The Three Corpses represent three evil desires within the human body, and a practitioner must eradicate and destroy the "root of the Three Corpses" to embark on the path to immortality (← from Baidu). Here, to fulfill his responsibilities as Hell's administrator more impartially, the Hell Lord manifested his evil thoughts as that malicious spider-his evil avatar-and separated it from himself. That was how the spider came into being. It eventually reached the human world and induced the monsters to merge with the soul of the bandit Onigumo, giving birth to the half-demon Naraku.
