"What is this..." Han murmured. Something felt terribly ominous; even the signs of life had vanished completely.
"The Road to the Underworld is opening," Sesshomaru said gravely. As expected, Sōunga would not yield just because Setsuna no Takemaru had died. "The boundary between the living and the dead is disappearing. If this road opens completely, there will be no distinguishing the living from the dead."
"Then that means..." The consequences occurred to Han, filling her with dread.
"Yes. Everyone in the Mortal World will become a soulless puppet, neither alive nor entirely dead."
"How could this happen..."
"Sōunga is a sword capable of bringing down the lands of all three realms-heaven, earth, and man. Now it is sealing this entire world within the Underworld. According to legend, it was once a divine sword, but it was lost in the human world, where it became a source of strife." Sesshomaru's voice was more solemn than ever. The legends surrounding Sōunga had never been a secret within the Dog Clan. Inuyasha was probably the only one who did not know them.
"Then can we still stop it?!" The destruction of the world, the merging of the human world and the Underworld-this would be a catastrophe for everyone!
"There may still be a slim chance." Sesshomaru looked solemnly into the girl's eyes. "Will you come with me?"
"Yes!" Their clasped hands held firm. Smiling, Han flew with him toward that dangerous vortex.
After confirming that Kagome was safe, Inuyasha also returned to the short-lived battlefield.
Sesshomaru set the girl down somewhere high, then returned to the armor to fight Sōunga.
Yet neither Inuyasha nor Sesshomaru could land an effective attack on Sōunga!
So the two of them really did have to work together to stop Sōunga completely!
