Background / History

Dark Abyss once wandered the universe in search of novelty and challenge. On one planet, its inhabitants began worshipping it as a god. Dark Abyss initially accepted their worship as amusing, but the worshippers became increasingly fanatical and began offering living people—including civilians and children—as sacrifices. After witnessing a mother and child being taken to an altar, Dark Abyss left the planet. 552

The worshippers branded it a demon and dispatched their strongest Martial Artists to pursue it. Dark Abyss eventually reached an uninhabited prehistoric Earth, intending to rest in its wilderness, but its pursuers followed. The original sealer sacrificed his own life to imprison Dark Abyss underground; Yuan Zhenzi became a Guardian only later and was not the one who created the seal. 552

By the time Luo Wen brought the Ancient Star Beast’s situation before the Milky Way Galaxy branch headquarters, Dark Abyss was bound to him through a Servant Agreement. Luo Wen accepted responsibility for its conduct and sought an equal, trust-based cooperation rather than treating it solely as a weapon. 551 552

Appearance

Dark Abyss is most often represented by a hovering pitch-black crystal, from which it communicates and releases its power. Its true body has no fixed documented appearance because it can alter its shape freely. 551

  • Its crystal is its life core and greatest vulnerability; its destruction would kill Dark Abyss. 551
  • It can transform into other forms or divide itself into numerous clones. 551
  • Its power is commonly depicted as black energy; when fused with Luo Wen’s energy, it manifests as golden-black light. 554

Personality

Dark Abyss initially regards the master-servant relationship with sarcasm and distrust. It believes that survival of the fittest is the universe’s fundamental law, viewing strength and continued growth as the central purpose of life. 551 554 585

Despite its cold manner, Dark Abyss is thoughtful, observant, and capable of regret. It does not deny the harm associated with its past worshippers, admitting that it must bear the consequences of its actions. Its long life also left it lonely and searching for meaning beyond power. 552 568

Through Luo Wen, Dark Abyss becomes curious about civilization, entertainment, beauty, order, and the value humans place on individual lives. It gradually comes to value their companionship, even describing the bond created by the Servant Agreement as more grounding than its former freedom. 556 557 568 585

Abilities & Skills

Mental Attacks

Dark Abyss can directly invade consciousness, induce illusions and fear, and disrupt an opponent’s senses. 551

  • Can distract enemies long enough for Luo Wen to exploit a weakness. 553
  • Located the Interstellar Monster’s Crystal Core through sensing during battle. 553 554
  • Held off five Stellar-Level guards during Luo Wen’s confrontation with Marcus. 566
  • Its mental attacks are not guaranteed to completely control enemies with strong Mental Power. 553

Space Manipulation

Dark Abyss can distort space to restrain or physically damage opponents. 551

  • Creates spatial rifts as part of cooperative combat tactics. 552
  • Can trap enemies through distorted space or tear apart their bodies. 551
  • Its residual “Anchor” within Luo Wen can help him comprehend the laws of space and spirit. 552

Shapeshifting, Cloning, and Regeneration

As a Star Beast with an unconventional body, Dark Abyss can reshape itself and recover from damage so long as its core survives. 551

  • Can transform into any form. 551
  • Can split into countless clones. 551
  • Possesses strong regeneration. 551
  • Limit: destruction of the pitch-black crystal core results in death. 551

Power Fusion

Dark Abyss can merge its power with Luo Wen’s, producing golden-black energy that greatly improves Luo Wen’s combat performance. 553 554

  • The fusion allowed Luo Wen to breach an Interstellar Monster’s otherwise impenetrable scales. 554
  • Dark Abyss provides targeting support while Luo Wen delivers the decisive strike against a Crystal Core. 554
  • The fused state is temporary and must be used quickly. 554

Devouring and Recovery

Dark Abyss can consume energy-rich Crystal Cores to restore its sealed strength. 554

  • Devouring part of an Interstellar Monster’s Crystal Core restored roughly five percent of its peak strength. 554
  • Its recovery later rose to approximately six percent. 566
  • More Crystal Cores could accelerate recovery, but suitable Interstellar Monsters are difficult to find and dangerous to hunt. 566

Ancient Knowledge and Detection

Dark Abyss possesses extensive knowledge of cultivation, Star Beasts, and hostile creatures acquired over its long life. 552 553

  • Advises Luo Wen that reaching King Realm requires combat experience, contemplation, and continued accumulation rather than shortcuts. 552
  • Explains the weaknesses and anatomy of Interstellar Monsters, particularly their Crystal Cores. 553
  • Detects the concealed aura of other Star Beasts, including one within the company headquarters. 566 567
  • Identifies the relative risks posed by several Star Beast targets and recommends the Mountain Behemoth as the most suitable opponent. 575

Relationships

  • Luo Wen — Master by contract and eventual partner. Their relationship develops from mutual caution into trust, joint training, and shared exploration of human life. 551 552 554 568 585
  • Yuan Zhenzi — A later Guardian of the seal that contained Dark Abyss; he was not Dark Abyss’s original sealer. 552
  • The original worshippers — An unnamed civilization that worshipped Dark Abyss as a god, later persecuted it after their sacrificial practices escalated and it departed. 552
  • Gerald — A suspected Star Beast whose aura Dark Abyss detects; Dark Abyss recognizes similarities between Gerald’s search for meaning and its own past loneliness. 567 568

Story Role / Major Arcs

Demon Suppression Abyss

Dark Abyss is the Ancient Star Beast linked to the sealed threat beneath Earth. Its prior imprisonment and the weakening of the Demon Suppression Abyss establish the danger surrounding its eventual return. 523 528 552

Cooperation Training

After Luo Wen accepts formal responsibility for Dark Abyss, the two train on an uninhabited planet. They begin with basic offense-and-defense drills, then develop increasingly precise tactical coordination involving mental attacks and spatial rifts. 551 552

Interstellar Monster Mission

Dark Abyss helps Luo Wen identify the Interstellar Monster’s Crystal Core and distract the creature mentally. Their complete power fusion enables Luo Wen to shatter the core; Dark Abyss then consumes a remaining fragment to begin restoring its strength. 553 554

Learning About Human Civilization

Luo Wen introduces Dark Abyss to space-station life, including plazas, fountains, commerce, art, entertainment, and ordinary leisure. These experiences challenge Dark Abyss’s belief that life should consist only of devouring energy and becoming stronger. 555 556 557 585

Star Beast Investigation

Dark Abyss senses another concealed Star Beast within the company headquarters and warns Luo Wen that the individual is stronger than its current recovered state. The discovery prompts Luo Wen to withdraw rather than expose their awareness. 566 567

Trivia

  • Dark Abyss’s current crystal form is both its vessel for communication and its fatal weak point. 551
  • It considers fountains and other decorative human creations strange because they have no direct survival value. 555
  • Although it insists on calling Luo Wen “Master,” it repeatedly acts as an adviser and partner rather than a passive servant. 552 554
