Background / History

Breakthrough and the Changed Worldline

A thousand years before Xiao Yan’s youth, Xiao Xuan survived the war in which he would otherwise have died and became a Dou Di. His breakthrough depended on both the Xiao Clan’s collective strength and Origin Qi supplied by a mysterious jade book. He killed Hun Tiandi and destroyed the Hun Clan’s main power, leaving only scattered remnants. The Xiao Clan subsequently became the strongest faction on the Dou Qi Continent 1 6 7.

His ascension also had an unintended consequence: he glimpsed the passage to the Upper Realm and loosened an ancient seal that had remained dormant for tens of thousands of years. Much of his later planning concerned the resulting threat from the Extraterrestrial Evil Race 286.

Cultivating Xiao Yan

After the jade book appeared, Xiao Xuan used divination to await a visitor from another world. When he met Xiao Yan, he recognized his transmigration and explained that his arrival signaled the approach of another Dou Di. Divination performed at the cost of his vital essence identified Xiao Yan as someone with the potential to reach that realm 7 8.

He appointed Xiao Yan an Emperor’s Son while the youth was still a Dou Emperor, taught him the complete Heavenly Fire Three Mysterious Transformations, and sent him outside the clan to gain experience. Later, he imposed a three-day deadline before suspending Xiao Yan’s privileges until he became a Dou Sheng. He also arranged encounters with the Purifying Lotus Demon Flame and the Bodhi Ancient Tree, the latter serving as Xiao Yan’s final trial before confronting the Demon Emperor’s Source 7 286 410 419.

Once Xiao Yan became a Dou Sheng, Xiao Xuan formally invested him before the clan and stated that he would gradually take over its affairs. He also arranged Xiao Yan’s marriage alliance with Gu Xun’er and personally presided over their wedding 456 459 472.

The Heavenly Tomb and the Soul Emperors

Following the Yin-Yang Evil Saint’s report of a Dou Di burial site, Xiao Xuan investigated Heavenly Burial Mountain. Inside, he found a chained, red-haired corpse identified by its stele as the Third-Generation Soul Emperor 81.

Xiao Xuan later revealed that he had refined the Heavenly Tomb after becoming a Dou Di. He had deliberately allowed Hun Clan remnants to survive and tacitly approved Xiao Shaobei’s relationship with Hun Xue. Their apparent plan to retrieve Hun Tiandi’s soul became part of his own arrangement to revive the Second-Generation Soul Emperor 460.

Inside the tomb, he stripped Hun Tiandi of his supporting energy, erased his consciousness, and placed the Second-Generation Soul Emperor’s true spirit into his Emperor Realm soul body. He had already extracted the Soul of the Heavenly Tomb’s essence and bestowed it on Xiao Shaobei 467.

War Against the Extraterrestrial Evil Race

During the invasion, Xiao Xuan faced Demon Emperor Bo Kui, the Black Sea Demon Emperor, and the awakened Third-Generation Soul Emperor. He summoned the Second-Generation Soul Emperor to enter the third emperor’s body, transferred that enemy into the Heavenly Tomb, and fought the remaining two himself 499.

Using the Heavenly Tomb and the accumulated power of the Deception-Heaven Great Array, he killed one Demon Emperor and suppressed another. He also directed five Peak Dou Sheng experts to maintain the Five Emperors Sealing Demon Formation, delaying the birth of a Sacred Demon Race Demon Emperor by approximately ten years 502 594.

After Xiao Yan became a Dou Di, the two joined forces against the suppressed Bo Kui. Xiao Xuan reinforced the stone stele’s restraint while Xiao Yan’s flames purified the enemy’s demonic qi. By the aftermath, Xiao Xuan existed only as a soul; Xiao Yan had already ordered the collection of materials to reconstruct his body. His subsequent return was celebrated by the Xiao Clan and the other ancient clans 587 588 589.

Guardian and Heavenly Sovereign

When Xiao Yan departed for the Great Thousand World, Xiao Xuan chose to remain behind. He revealed that he possessed the Heavenly Derivation Supreme’s inheritance and had spent a thousand years studying its divination arts and the Deception-Heaven Great Array 594.

During the White Bone Heavenly Demon Emperor’s later assault, Xiao Xuan was grievously injured by an attack on the array. Zhu Kun and three newly ascended female Dou Di joined him, and the five channeled the plane’s power into the array to block a second strike 696.

After the Dou Qi Continent relocated to the Great Thousand World, Xiao Xuan began converting his energy alongside four other experts. He later reached Immortal Grade Heavenly Sovereign with Xiao Yan’s assistance and received Sacred Artifact Mountain as an additional Peerless Saint Relic 727 736 766.

Appearance

• Face: Not exceptionally handsome, but possessing a distinctive quality; he is later described as looking young 6 465.

Personality

Xiao Xuan is composed, authoritative, and rarely visibly disturbed after a thousand years of life. Nevertheless, Xiao Yan’s exaggerated flattery repeatedly amuses him. He discourages unnecessary kneeling and tells the youth that a genius should possess a proud backbone 6 286 454.

His support for Xiao Yan combines protection with demanding trials. He provides rare inheritances and opportunities, but refuses to let the Emperor’s Son remain sheltered indefinitely. He also openly acknowledges achievements that surpass his own youthful feats, praising Xiao Yan’s Fire Lotus technique as a work of exceptional daring and talent 286 354 410.

He plans far ahead and withholds information until it becomes useful. His deliberate preservation of Hun Clan remnants and eventual destruction of Hun Tiandi’s consciousness show that this restraint is strategic rather than simple mercy. Once the continent’s calamity is resolved, however, he is visibly relieved despite having lost his physical body 460 467 588.
