Background / History

Ten thousand years before the invasion of the Dou Qi Continent, Nine Nether stood at the height of its power. Its armies invaded dozens of star domains, slaughtering local races and factions and taking their resources. Their arrival was associated with unusual celestial phenomena and the saying, “The great sun falls, twilight descends, Nine Nether arrives” 66.

Its expansion met resistance in the Primordial Star Domain, where the Evil Keyboard Immortal led ancient beings of the Primordial World against it. Nine Nether then attacked the Northern Dipper Star Domain. Although the Heaven Realm’s four Divine Lords were occupied with sealing a half-step True God, the domain’s other forces overwhelmingly defeated the invaders 66.

After the defeated Nine Nether Emperor threatened to destroy Heaven one day, the four Divine Lords attacked all nine hells and killed every expert above the Ruler Realm. The surviving peoples sought protection from the Ancient God Clan. By the time of the novel’s events, both the Emperor and the Nine Great Prison Masters had been replaced by a new generation 66.

Gu Tianshen subsequently sent Gu Xiu to order a covert takeover of the Dou Qi Continent. The underlying objective was the Evil Keyboard Immortal’s legacy. Because the plane’s barrier could withstand only peak Saint Realm power, Gu Xiu instructed Nine Nether to enter through breaches and gradually seize control without attracting outside attention 39.

• Fourteen attackers establish a defensive version by feeding their bonded Spirit Artifacts with Nine Nether blood. Breaking it requires overcoming the power of all fourteen artifacts 69.
• Damage to the bonded artifacts causes backlash to their owners. Long Xiao’s bombardment with thousands of Saint Artifacts and two divine weapons cracks the artifacts and breaks the formation 69.
• Ying Mei deploys a much larger version using countless powerhouses. Long Ling freezes the Demonic Flame and shatters the formation with Absolute Zero 86 87.

Bloodline Burning and Sacrificial Fusion

Members can burn their bloodlines to increase strength or sacrifice themselves to merge their power into another body 69 93.

• The first invasion’s thirteen-person sacrifice concentrates their power in a single leader, but grants only a brief period of enhanced strength 69.
• Nine Nether Ghost expects to merge the reinforcing army’s power into himself, although Xing Yue and Black Feather defeat him before this occurs 94.

• Troops arrive through a formation in the Amethyst Winged Lion King’s cave and head toward the Misty Cloud Sect after learning it has a Dou Huang expert 63.
• Xing Yue attacks the passage, killing or injuring roughly a third of the troops passing through. Ying Mei’s retaliation destroys the cave and gravely wounds her 63.
• Seventeen experts confront Long Xiao. Their leader recognizes his Heaven Clan mark and reacts with fear; the attackers then resort to artifact sacrifices and bodily fusion 68 69.
• Long Xiao draws the Dao-Slaying Sword despite its backlash. The Evil Keyboard Immortal possesses Xiao Huohuo, annihilates the incoming army, and destroys the teleportation formation. Long Xiao’s body subsequently dissolves into golden light 70 71.

Retaliation Against Phantom Shadow Hell

• Long Ling and Yu Hong invade Nine Nether to avenge Long Xiao’s apparent death 86.
• Long Ling kills Ying Mei, takes her Divine Core, and escapes with Yu Hong after confronting the Nine Nether Emperor 87.
• The Emperor interprets the incident as evidence of an important secret on the Dou Qi Continent and appoints Gui You to investigate, hoping the discovery could free Nine Nether from dependence on the Ancient God Clan 87.

Black-Corner Region Occupation

• Native Saint Realm defenders destroy seven of the twelve remaining passages. One incomplete exit opens into Hun Tiandi’s bathing pool, prompting him to destroy it 90.
• Nine Nether conquers most of the Black-Corner Region, kills civilians, and seals the region beneath an enormous light curtain 90.
• Nine Nether Ghost gives Jia Nan Academy one week to submit. The force confronting the academy numbers three thousand Dou Huang, Dou Zong, and Dou Zun 90 91.
