Background / History

Medusa was raised to place the Snake-People Tribe above herself and lead it back to prosperity. The lineage’s education demanded coldness, isolation, and obedience to tribal law. She later learns that the Snake God established these practices to produce suitable bodies for her resurrection, including a rule requiring one of two sisters hatched from the same egg to die 19 20.

Those laws forced Medusa and her younger sister into a fight to the death. She recalls walking her path alone after her sister left. Her mother’s death had been attributed to cultivation deviation, but Long Xiao identifies it as another killing orchestrated by the Snake God 16 19 20.

Twenty years before the Alchemist Tournament, Medusa sealed Hai Bodong’s Dou Qi after he became entangled with her younger sister. Upon seeing him in Jia Ma Holy City, she recognizes that the seal has recently been lifted 47.

As queen, she wins the tribe’s faith through her military achievements and works to free her people from life in the desert. By the High Priest’s rebellion, she has abolished the old system and made her royal authority supreme 3 12 18.

Personality

Medusa’s severity is closely tied to her responsibility as ruler. She initially accommodates Long Xiao because antagonizing an unknown expert could endanger the entire tribe. She enforces obedience forcefully, but also asks him not to kill the commanders who challenge him and deliberately spares the defeated visitors from the Jia Ma Empire 2 7 15.

She is intensely ambitious about cultivation. The prospect of leading her people out of the desert drives her to attempt a potentially fatal bloodline evolution, and she eagerly pursues methods that increase her strength. After evolving, she searches the Book Pavilion to understand her new constitution 3 4 6 8.

With Long Xiao, her regal composure gives way to embarrassment, teasing, affection, and jealousy. She questions the scent of another woman on him and asks whether he is attracted to Yue Mei. His near-fatal battle with the Snake God makes her acknowledge that she truly loves him 11 24 38 40.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Long Xiao’s Arrival and Her Evolution

Medusa fishes the unconscious Long Xiao out of Queen’s Lake. His protective power injures her when she tries to move him, and his awakened strength convinces her to allow him to stay rather than risk the tribe’s destruction 2.

Concerned about her people’s future and this unexpected arrival, she advances her plan to evolve using the Heavenly Flame. The attempt nearly kills her. Long Xiao intervenes, heals her with his blood, and guides her rebirth into a Nine-Colored Sacred Spirit Python 3 4.

Acceptance of a Human Husband

After losing her senses following the transformation, Medusa is embarrassed by her encounter with Long Xiao. He presses her to accept him as her partner, and she agrees subject to the elders’ approval. Their endorsement secures the partnership, but the male commanders remain hostile 5 6 7.

Medusa defends Long Xiao’s standing while allowing him to win recognition through combat. Once he defeats the seven commanders and Hei Du, she publicly declares him her husband and demands the tribe’s obedience 7 8 10 11.

Defying the Snake God

The High Priest turns their ceremonial banquet into an assassination attempt. When Long Xiao exposes the poisoned wine, the priest summons the Snake God, who demands Medusa’s body as the price of restoring the tribe’s glory 17 18 19.

Long Xiao reveals the ancestral possession scheme, and the tribespeople reaffirm their loyalty to their living queen. Medusa rejects the Snake God’s control and shelters her subjects while Long Xiao fights. When his life is threatened, she agrees to approach the altar, but he stops her and kills the Snake God 20 22.

Long Xiao collapses from the battle’s backlash. Medusa secures the palace, suppresses news of his condition, and eventually revives him with the life-giving water he entrusted to her. He subsequently gives her the Spirit-Conversion Art and a ring of resources 23 24 25.

Journey Beyond the Desert

After Long Xiao returns from his travels, Medusa reaches seven-star Dou Zong and accepts his invitation to a date in the Magical Beast Mountain Range. Their excursion leads to Curly joining them and a visit to Jia Ma Holy City 38 40 42 44 45.

She conceals her identity at the Alchemist Tournament to avoid a confrontation with old opponents, identifies Hai Bodong for Long Xiao, and remains with the group when Aoba lures them to the Alchemist Guild 46 47 50.
