Realm Structure
The Four Stages
| Stage | Other Name Used | Defining Characteristics | Documented Examples |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hunyuan Wuji | Entry realm | Power transcends Quasi-Immortal Emperors and reaches boundless primordial unity 502. | Gu Zhou; the newly ascended Dark Immortal Emperor; Willow Deity immediately after her breakthrough 502 544. |
| True Spirit Imperishable | Immortal True Spirit | A fallen emperor can revive while someone thinks of or remembers them. This immortality can still be countered 502. | Taishu Xuanji, Shi Yi, and Shi Hao 502 510 511. |
| Dao Fruit Evolution | Dao Fruit Derivation | The Dao Fruit approaches maturity, qualitatively transforming both its power and the emperor’s own strength 502 513 516. | Qin Wuya, Meng Hai, Cangsheng, and the empowered Dark Immortal Emperor 502 510. |
| Eternal Uniqueness | — | The Dao Fruit fully matures. The emperor transcends the River of Time and maintains one true self across past, present, and future, becoming an eternal concept spanning time and space 502 516. | Luo Tianxian, the Twin Stones, and the four eerie emperors confronting Shi Hao in the Sacrificial Sea 502 524 530. |
Approach to Emperorhood
- Quasi-Immortal Emperor is not true Immortal Emperorhood. Shi Yi explicitly corrects the Immortal Kings who mistake his breakthrough for the higher realm 471.
- Immortal Embryo is a transformed state above ordinary Quasi-Immortal Emperor strength. Maintaining it permanently places the Immortal Emperor domain within sight but does not itself grant the title 485 487 491.
- Momentary entry is insufficient. Shi Yi and Shi Hao briefly stand within the Immortal Emperor domain before completing the refinement needed to remain there permanently 492.
- Breakthrough methods differ. Shi Hao’s body becomes a Dao Seed that nurtures his emperor art; Shi Yi completes his metamorphosis through his Dao Markers and the power of time, karma, fate, and space 491 492 493.
Sacrificial Dao
- Sacrificial Dao lies above Eternal Uniqueness and normally involves burning away rules and order while sacrificing one’s supreme Great Dao 502.
- Its combat advantage exceeds the gaps between successive Immortal Emperor stages, although it is not treated as an entirely independent major realm 507.
- Luo Tianxian’s sister entered Sacrificial Dao before leading an expedition against the source of the eeriness; nobody from that expedition returned 506.
- Shi Yi attempts an unconventional breakthrough by refusing to burn away his Dao and resisting the Great Dao flames with Forbidden Sea of Bitterness water 525.
Abilities & Limits
Authority over Worlds
- An Immortal Emperor can destroy a Quasi-Immortal Emperor or Dao Ancestor with a turn of the hand or a single thought 487 502.
- The Corpse Immortal Emperor’s sword strike can reduce All Heavens and Myriad Realms to dust and destabilize the River of Time 493.
- Even while sealed and impaired, the Corpse Immortal Emperor’s breathing plunders the essence of countless worlds 488.
Time and Karma
- Immortal Emperors can travel upstream through The Heavens’ River of Time despite resistance that even Immortal Kings can hardly overcome 503.
- Their actions can leave records across history: Shi Yi’s battle causes accounts of darkness covering the sun and ascension to immortality to appear in ancient books 513.
- Deliberately rewriting history remains dangerous. The Corpse Immortal Emperor withdraws from directly killing the young Shi Hao because of karmic backlash. His indirect interference still prevents him from tracking Shi Hao’s transformed blood 492 493 498.
Emperor Arts
- Ascension to Immortality — Shi Yi: Transforms his former Feathering Technique into an emperor art that raises his power through successive layers of metamorphosis 493 503.
- He Transforms at Ease — Shi Hao: Produces three manifested bodies comparable to his true body, allowing four simultaneous attackers 503.
- Annihilation of All Living Beings — Corpse Immortal Emperor: A forbidden sword art capable of devastating worlds and threatening the River of Time 493.
- Realm alone does not determine combat strength. Shi Yi fights third-stage opponents while in the second stage and holds off three Weird Immortal Emperors simultaneously 513 514.
Survival and Permanent Erasure
- Bodily destruction does not necessarily kill an emperor; opponents repeatedly restore themselves after being shattered 503 514.
- Grinding away an enemy’s Immortal Emperor origin essence can kill them, but may require substantial expenditure of the attacker’s own origin 505.
- Weird Immortal Emperors can revive through the Plateau after battlefield annihilation 512 513 531.
- Shi Yi’s Forbidden Sea of Bitterness water severs that connection and enables eternal extinction. Its effectiveness depends on the opponent’s strength relative to his own 514 515.
- Great sacrifices can destroy an emperor despite their imperishable origin. Cangsheng is sacrificed and erased through the Weird Faction’s altar 510.
- Immortal Emperorhood does not prevent corruption: black blood infects the newly ascended Origin Ancient Emperor while his cultivation is unstable 492 494 522.
Notable Holders
| Holder | Significance |
|---|---|
| Origin Ancient Emperor / Corpse Immortal Emperor | Identified as the true first emperor of the ancient land. Attains emperorhood through runes, becomes corrupted, and is eventually purified and restored by the Twin Stones 485 487 494. |
| Shi Yi | Defeats the Corpse Immortal Emperor immediately after ascending and later develops a means of permanently erasing Weird Immortal Emperors 493 494 514 515. |
| Shi Hao | Attains emperorhood through the time-tempered blood of his own emperor art and fights alongside Shi Yi against the darkness and Weird Faction 494 503. |
| The Heavens’ original six defenders | Luo Tianxian, Meng Hai, Qin Wuya, Taishu Xuanji, Zhu Jiuyin, and Gu Zhou hold the central battlefield against ten eerie emperors while injured 502 544. |
| Cangsheng | Third-stage emperor captured and sacrificed by the Weird Faction 510. |
| Weird Immortal Emperors | Ten end-reaching enemies supported by primordial matter and the Plateau’s resurrection power. Their ranks include replacement emperors selected after predecessors suffer permanent extinction 502 531. |
| Later defenders of The Heavens | Willow Deity, Butcher, Burial Master, Footprint Emperor, Ye Fan, and Ruthless attain the realm during the prolonged war 544. |
Story Role
Ending the Dark Calamity
The dark Quasi-Immortal Emperors harvest living beings to obtain Immortal Emperor Scriptures from the darkness. The ultimate source is the corrupted Corpse Immortal Emperor, whose power remains far beyond theirs 485 487.
Shi Yi and Shi Hao study the scriptures and cultivate near the sleeping emperor before attempting their breakthroughs. After both succeed, they overpower him, purge his corruption, restore the Origin Ancient Emperor, and seal the breach through which the corrupting blood entered 489 491 493 494.
War in The Heavens
The Heavens initially has six injured Immortal Emperors facing ten eerie opponents. The arrival of Shi Yi, Shi Hao, and the restored Origin Ancient Emperor raises its total to nine and helps repel the invasion 501 502 503 506.
Later, the Twin Stones confront the Eerie Ancestors while The Heavens’ remaining emperors fight the Weird Immortal Emperors. A new wave of breakthroughs brings the defending force to thirteen emperors 536 544.
Terminology
- “Heavenly Emperor” is not proof of Immortal Emperor cultivation. Shi Yi receives Heavenly Emperor honorifics for his achievements while entering the Quasi-Immortal Emperor realm 471.
- “Emperor” can describe lower ranks. Cang Emperor, Hong Emperor, Yu Emperor, and the World-Destroying Elder are Quasi-Immortal Emperors rather than true Immortal Emperors 481 485.
- The Time Emperor is an Immortal King, despite the imperial title 352.
- Great Emperor, Ancient Emperor, and Heavenly Venerable are distinct titles. Their holders may still need to pursue immortality and subsequently advance through Immortal Kinghood before approaching true Immortal Emperorhood 518 519 528.
