Background / History

In his former life, Shi Yi was a young man born with double pupils that had no supernatural powers. Villagers treated him as an ill omen, classmates ostracized him, and employers repeatedly dismissed him because his eyes frightened customers or harmed their company’s image. An ophthalmologist confirmed that his vision was unaffected but that available medicine could not make his eyes appear normal; cosmetic lenses and sunglasses also failed to conceal them 1 4.

After his death, he transmigrated into the young Shi Yi of Perfect World, a character who shared both his name and unusual eyes. He arrived during Shi Ziling and Qin Yining’s attack on Martial King Manor, after Shi Hao’s Supreme Bone had already been transplanted into his new body. The original occupant’s forced use of the unsettled bone had caused instability, which the manor’s elders treated 1 2.

Shi Yi recognized that he had inherited the consequences of the bone theft. Although he considered his mother’s actions wrong, he refused to return the bone or repeat the original Shi Yi’s eventual self-sacrifice. He chose to cultivate through his own Double Pupils, treat the Supreme Bone as an external asset, and make Shi Hao a rival rather than follow him as a companion 4 5.

Appearance

  • Eyes: Two pupils in each eye, with flowing divine light, runes, and increasingly numerous Order Divine Chains 2 13.
  • Hair: Black; worn loosely over his shoulders during the Qilin Blood Pool arc 38.
  • Build: At six years old, nearly as tall as a ten-year-old boy 38.
  • Bearing: Composed and majestic despite his age, often surrounded by a faint sacred halo 9 17 38.
  • Internal transformation: His purple heart is covered in qilin patterns and wreathed in purple mist after absorbing Purple Qilin Blood 47.

Personality

Shi Yi is solitary, ambitious, and determined to control his own destiny through strength. His former life’s discrimination makes him keenly aware that goodwill often follows talent and power, but the praise surrounding his new identity does not intoxicate him. He remains calm under attention from clan elders, powerful cultivators, and hostile pureblood creatures 3 4 9 17.

He refuses to accept an outstanding result as his final limit. Recognizing that a Double Pupils bearer’s body is comparatively weak, he subjects himself to exhausting physical training rather than relying solely on ocular arts. Even reaching physical parity with purebloods leaves him dissatisfied 8 14 15 27.

His pragmatism includes caution and restraint. He wounds challengers to establish authority without intending to kill them, protects Little Golden Spider from an attack it cannot withstand, and conceals the complete Qilin inheritance when revealing it would invite enemies beyond his strength 37 38 47 48. He also acknowledges Demon Spirit Lake’s support and intends to repay it after becoming stronger 26 48.

Abilities & Skills

Double Pupils: Perception and Deduction

His eyes reveal the underlying runes and operation of techniques rather than merely their outward appearance 2 7.

  • Detect weaknesses in treasure techniques and guide precise attacks against them 2 19.
  • Analyze movements so that fast opponents appear slower; see through physical obstructions 6 18.
  • Learn techniques through observation and reconstruct missing portions to a limited extent 7 29.
  • Accelerate comprehension of primordial runes, bone text, and the Great Dao 14 28.
  • Identify dangerous patterns and hidden safe routes in the Qilin Secret Realm 36.
  • Limits: Seeing a weakness does not guarantee he can exploit it. Rapidly shifting flaws and a large cultivation gap prevent him from keeping pace with stronger opponents 2.
  • Counters identified by Old Golden Spider: Extreme speed, absolute defense, or overwhelming cultivation 19.

Life, Destruction, and Yin-Yang Qi

His left eye generates life-giving power, while his right eye holds destructive power. Both become substantially stronger after his pupils produce Yin-Yang Qi 4 26 43.

  • Heal injuries and support recovery during harsh physical tempering 4 33.
  • Strike the weak point of the Primordial Remnant bird’s divine essence with the right pupil 12.
  • Combine life and destruction to seal the Supreme Bone during cultivation 12.
  • Form a crystalline battle garment from the left eye’s light 44.

Heaven-Opening Double Pupils

Unlocked during his fifth-birthday baptism, this ocular secret art can fracture space under his gaze 25 26.

  • Intercepts Little Golden Spider’s concealed strand attack 31.
  • Delivers devastating damage across a distance without an obvious approach 38.
  • Shatters hostile blood energy with a glance 38.
  • Limit: Its strength remains restricted by his Blood Moving Realm cultivation 26.

Chaos Mist and Ocular Pressure

His pupils can create a favorable battlefield through faint chaos mist and suppress opponents through their gaze 10 13.

  • Meeting his gaze can trap ordinary creatures within its phenomena 13.
  • Intimidates pureblood younglings and dazes a defiant creature’s consciousness 38.
  • Together with the Supreme Bone, his pupils automatically help resist external oppressive might 16.

Blood-Borne Divine Radiance

Shi Yi refines his blood into rune-bearing divine radiance that absorbs and releases the essence of heaven and earth 12 13.

  • Cultivates countless tiny Dao Bells within his blood vessels, improving refinement and releasing powerful blood essence 15.
  • Reshapes the radiance into weapons according to his offensive or defensive needs 15.
  • Uses the bells’ defensive power while enduring the Qilin Seven Steps, though the final step still injures him 37.

Supreme Bone

The Supreme Bone taken from Shi Hao remains implanted in Shi Yi’s chest, but he deliberately keeps it isolated rather than fully integrating it 2 4 26.

  • Devours large quantities of medicinal and divine essence; initially takes most of the energy from consumed spirit fruits 6.
  • Enhances his strength when activated 13.
  • Helps absorb the overwhelming essence of Heavenly God Blood during baptism 24.
  • Risk: Forced activation before it stabilized caused pain and vomiting of blood 2.
  • Restriction: Shi Yi prevents its supreme blood from circulating throughout his body 26.
  • Developing art: Heavenly Tribulation Light is approaching emergence. He intends to analyze it as a treasure technique rather than use it against Shi Hao; it is not yet documented as mastered 26 43.

Qilin Precious Technique and Purple Heart

Purple Qilin Blood transforms his heart into a reservoir of qilin blood essence and reveals the complete Qilin Precious Technique inside a heart chamber 46 47.

  • Greatly strengthens his circulation and physique without advancing his cultivation realm 46 47.
  • Uses his Double Pupils to comprehend and fully master the Ten Fiends technique 47.
  • Conceals the complete inheritance and plans to display only its remnant version to avoid attracting powerful enemies 47.
