The Corpse Beetles in the cracks between stones erupted into collective hysteria. Like a choir of little sprites, they devoutly pressed their forelegs and antennae together, rubbing their sharp mouthparts. An aged dragon secluded deep in the mountains laboriously turned over amid its vast hoard, curled up its claws, and exposed its wrinkled belly.
The shamans of native tribes prostrated themselves beneath towering totem poles, staring in terror at the foul-smelling liquid flowing from beneath the stone pillars. The wizards who had descended from beyond the realm held up the alliance's "Codex" and loudly recited its provisions.
At the Star Observation Tower.
Morris saw his own reflection in Avril's Crystal Ball. In every instant, those reflections died in different ways, without exception. As for the other lower-ranked hunters in the team, perhaps because they were too close, they had already lost consciousness and lay sprawled across the cold bluestone slabs of the terrace.
