Background / History

Dai Huabin is a legitimate son of Dai Hao and the Duchess, sharing both parents with his elder brother Dai Yueheng. His talent and standing within the household exceed those of the original Dai Youheng, whose cultivation he had already surpassed despite being younger. He repeatedly bullied the concubine-born Dai Youheng and Dai Luoli, treating their birth as grounds for contempt 7 27.

He entered Shrek Academy by passing its entrance examination himself, leaving the Dai Family’s unrestricted outer-court admission slot available for Dai Youheng. After the academy holiday, he returned with Dai Yueheng rather than wait for Youheng, who had chosen to remain in Star Luo City to pursue Princess Xu Jiujiu 1 9.

Personality

Dai Huabin places considerable importance on legitimate birth, family prestige, and his identity as the White Tiger Duke’s son. He regards Dai Youheng’s support for Huo Yuhao as betrayal and explicitly rejects the idea that a concubine’s son deserves equal standing with him. Public humiliation provokes intense resentment: after losing two wagers, he escalates from insults to arranging Huo Yuhao’s assassination 21 23 27.

His pride does not prevent him from paying publicly agreed debts. He surrenders valuable soul bones and performs the promised kowtows rather than bring greater disgrace upon the Duke’s Mansion by reneging. He can also restrain his desire for immediate revenge: during the reserve-team selection, he delays attacking Dai Youheng because securing a place among the final seven matters more than settling their feud 23 27 37.

Dai Huabin is deeply responsive to his father’s approval. Dai Hao’s praise visibly excites him, and he refuses to abandon the reserve team despite its hostility because joining it has finally brought him into his elder brother’s footsteps 41 50.

Advancement Assessment Wagers

Dai Huabin confronts Huo Yuhao in the cafeteria and proposes wagering the freshman tournament’s soul-bone prize on their advancement assessment. Dai Youheng intervenes, offering his thirty-thousand-year Ice Arrow Pig left arm bone instead and requiring Huabin to stake another soul bone. Huo Yuhao later adds three public kowtows to the terms 20 21.

Huo Yuhao’s release of the Ice Empress’s aura incapacitates the arena’s soul beasts, suspending the assessment. Because Huo is the only participant with a completed assessment and score, he claims victory. Huabin pays, but immediately demands a rematch with higher stakes 22 23.

For the rematch, Huabin changes the contest to compare combined team scores, with the wager void if any participant fails. This is intended to prevent Huo Yuhao from disrupting the entire arena again 25.

Failed Assassination and Ambush

After paying the second wager, Huabin leaves the academy to contact people willing to perform covert attacks. He intends to kill Huo Yuhao, but only to recover Dai Youheng’s soul bones and punish him: killing his own kin remains a taboo he is unwilling to cross 27.

The hired assassins targeting Huo Yuhao are destroyed by Ma Xiaotao’s intervention. A separate Soul King waits along Dai Youheng’s route back to the academy, but Youheng stays overnight in central Shrek City and avoids the ambush entirely. Learning that both operations have failed, Huabin turns his attention to the upcoming core-disciple selection 31 33.

Shrek Seven Devils Reserve Selection

During the shifting-maze free-for-all, Huabin and Zhu Lu wait for Dai Youheng’s fight with Xu Sanshi to end before attacking. Their ambush earns Huabin credit for eliminating Youheng, although Youheng has deliberately arranged the encounter and allowed his own elimination 34 37 38.

Zhu Lu subsequently concedes when eight contestants remain, leaving Huabin among the final seven. He joins Huo Yuhao, Wang Dong, Xiao Xiao, He Caitou, Bei Bei, and Jiang Nannan on the new reserve team, but remains isolated from the other six 39.

His refusal to cooperate with Huo Yuhao compounds the team’s problems. The others increasingly condemn his opportunistic attack on Dai Youheng, particularly after Youheng takes leave from the academy. Huabin nevertheless remains determined to retain the position 40 41.

Inspection Mission and Reunion with Dai Hao

The reserve team travels with the previous generation of Shrek Seven Devils toward the Continental Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament. Before reaching the capital, the delegation visits the Western Legion to obtain intelligence about Evil Soul Masters near the Mingdou Mountain Range 50.

Huabin and Dai Yueheng greet their father at the garrison. Dai Hao arranges military scouting support and praises their achievements, giving Huabin a moment of recognition after the conflicts at Shrek 50.
