Family and Soul Engineering Studies

Ling Ya’s parents were unaffiliated Soul Masters from the Heaven Dou Empire who shared the Ice Feather Eagle martial soul. Both Ling Ya and his younger sister inherited it, though her innate soul power was rank six compared with his rank four. He did not resent her greater talent, but disliked falling behind her 62.

After seeing the Sun Moon Empire’s soul tools at a Continental Advanced Soul Master Elite Tournament, Ling Ya became fascinated with soul engineering. He subsequently studied in the Star Luo Empire from age twenty to thirty, remaining at his academy after graduation as his Soul Engineer teacher’s assistant. He generally returned home only for the New Year 62.

Persecution by the Netherworld Sect

One of Xu Sanshi’s older paternal cousins targeted Ling Ya’s sister. When inducements failed, sect experts abducted her, and she was sexually assaulted. Her attempt at revenge ended when the cousin’s guardian killed her. The cousin then ordered Ling Ya’s parents murdered to eliminate the remaining family 62.

Ling Ya discovered the deaths upon returning home. Knowing that the Netherworld Sect possessed a Titled Douluo, he sought justice from the local city lord instead of attacking the sect himself. The city lord detained him, reported him to the sect, and received orders to kill him. Rather than execute him, the lord sold him to the Ordinary Alliance’s black market for profit 62.

Submission to Dai Youheng

Dai Youheng purchased Ling Ya for six hundred thousand Gold Soul Coins and destroyed the remote controlling his restraining collar. Ling Ya immediately tried to escape, but Dai Youheng caught his attack barehanded and lifted him by the throat without releasing his martial soul 63.

Dai Youheng offered him Titled Douluo-level power in exchange for absolute loyalty, warning that the method would severely restrict future cultivation. Ling Ya willingly accepted, valuing the possibility of revenge above freedom. The Yin-Yang Fate-Reversing Lotus Seed Pill also imposed a binding influence over his soul, placing his life under Dai Youheng’s control 64 65.

After reaching level 91, Ling Ya was warned that attacking the Netherworld Sect alone would still be suicidal. Dai Youheng redirected his ambitions toward becoming a Level 9 Soul Engineer, providing advanced manuscripts and instructing him to strengthen his foundations rather than rely on his new cultivation rank 67.

Personality

The destruction of his family and the city lord’s betrayal initially leave Ling Ya violently distrustful of nobles. His black-market assessment notes intense hatred, a ferocious fighting style, and extensive combat experience. Nevertheless, his hatred does not entirely override caution: he avoids confronting the Netherworld Sect directly when he knows he cannot win 61 62.

After accepting Dai Youheng’s bargain, Ling Ya becomes intensely loyal and treats his new strength as a second life. His submission is both voluntary and reinforced by the pill’s binding effect. He extends that respect to Dai Youheng’s family, insisting that Bai Wanning need not address him with a Titled Douluo’s honorific 64 65 131.

Ling Ya is an eager, disciplined researcher who immerses himself in technical materials and values instruction from more knowledgeable Soul Engineers. In public, he can convincingly present himself as an aloof, independent expert while concealing his actual obedience to Dai Youheng. He also shows sympathy for Nana after learning that her parents’ captive souls are being used to control her 133 147 159 160.
