Power Progression

Stage / Realm / Level Chapter Notes
Mid-stage Foundation Establishment 3 21 Initially identified by Han Li’s system. Later releases her full spiritual pressure in the Medicine Hall, dispersing some of his fiendish aura.
Late Foundation Establishment 44 Explicitly described as a late-stage expert when Han Li accepts her protection. The timing and method of her advancement are not shown.

Appearance

  • White robes: Repeatedly described as whiter than snow, emphasizing her graceful, immortal-like bearing 21 40 46.
  • Light veil: Covers her face at the banquet and during her travels through the forbidden land 9 40 46.
  • Eyes and expression: Beautiful, cool eyes and a frequently frosty expression; surprise and concern appear through subtle changes in her gaze 21 40 45.
  • Hands: Slender, jade-like fingers, used to inspect spiritual traces and cast techniques 13 44.

Personality

Nangong Wan is reserved, observant, and cautious. She initially studies Han Li from a distance, ordering close surveillance without direct contact and watching how Mo Juren and other powers respond to his rise. Her interest includes both his unusual cultivation and his potential to disrupt the Southern Heaven cultivation world 3 6.

Her authority is tempered by a willingness to examine evidence. Although she initially accuses Han Li of attacking a sect elder, she changes her judgment after investigating Mo Juren’s possession attempt. She rejects Mo Juren’s offer to share Han Li’s secrets and invokes sect rules against him instead 20 21.

She repeatedly provides costly medicine and protection without demanding that Han Li disclose every secret. Her concern does not make her uncritical: she questions his explanations, warns him about the dangers of slaughter-based cultivation, and recognizes hatred as both an inner demon and a source of determination 24 40 44. Her deeper motives remain unclear to Han Li even after she guards his breakthrough 44 45.

Abilities & Skills

Ice Techniques

Nangong Wan uses ice for direct attacks, restraint, and battlefield obstruction.

  • Conjures ice spikes against Black Fiend Cult cultivators and a False Core Shadow Killer Sect elder 36 49.
  • Raises an ice wall with her jade ruler to delay Han Li’s pursuers 36.
  • Creates crystalline ice chains to interrupt the Shadow Killer Sect elder at Han Li’s request 49.
  • Her ice spikes are blocked by the Black Fiend Cult leader’s Black Banner, and the False Core elder shatters her chains 36 49.

Jade Ruler and Moonlight Techniques

Her translucent jade ruler produces attacking images, concentrated light, and defensive moonlight.

  • Shatters ghost shadows and helps shield nearby cultivators inside the Seven Fiends Ghost Shadow Formation 36.
  • Uses Moonlight Wall to withstand soul-corroding finger blasts from a False Core cultivator 49.
  • Directs a full-powered ruler strike toward the Shadow Killer Sect elder’s heart 49.
  • Fires moonlight slashes and a rainbow-like ruler attack at the Black Fiend Cult’s young master 49 50.
  • Cannot break the young master’s Blood Fiend Demon Shield with her ruler attack 50.

Sword Energy and Protective Barriers

She can release concentrated white sword energy and manipulate protective white light.

  • Forms sword energy at her fingertips while preparing to enforce the sect’s punishment against Mo Juren 21.
  • Pulls Han Li backward with white light and shields herself from Mo Juren’s self-detonation 21.
  • Maintains a white barrier against the Seven Fiends Ghost Shadow Formation, though sustained attacks nearly collapse it 36.

Spiritual Perception

Her spiritual sense detects cultivators, unusual energy fluctuations, and concealed resources.

  • Identifies lingering dark spiritual power and traces of Han Li’s methods after a battle 13.
  • Recognizes spatial teleportation fluctuations and notices subtle disturbances at the Sword-Washing Pool 40 42.
  • Senses Han Li’s Netherworld Death Qi through the Soul-Calming Pill she gave him; she then requests his location 44.
  • Detects a hidden Profound Yin Jade Marrow fissure that Han Li had not noticed 44.
  • Perceives anomalous energy during Han Li’s breakthrough, but does not know that the Slaughter System exists 45.

Healing and Cultivation Knowledge

Nangong Wan combines medicinal resources with precise spiritual-power assistance.

  • Channels gentle spiritual power into Han Li to help refine a Pure Yang Snow-Melting Pill and purge Netherworld Death Qi; the treatment takes two hours 44.
  • Explains the Sword-Washing Pool’s benefits for tempering spiritual power and comprehending sword intent 40.
  • Knows the Profound Fiend Asura Art’s historical reputation, rapid progress, and risks of slaughter fixation and inner-demon backlash 44.
  • Recognizes Netherworld Lingzhi as a material for refining a Netherworld Corpse King and as useful to Han Li’s cultivation art 44.

  • Soul-Calming Pills — Distributes one to each of the five Seven Mysteries Sect entrants to stabilize their souls and resist illusions and soul attacks 34.

  • Pure Yang Snow-Melting Pill — Uses this rare remedy to dispel Han Li’s Netherworld Death Qi 44.
  • Defensive jade pendant — Given to Han Li before his encounter with the Blood Fiend Earth Dragon. Its barrier breaks under the beast’s attack, but buys enough time for his teleportation talisman to activate 43.

Relationships

  • Han Li — Initially an object of surveillance, later a junior she defends, advises, heals, and guards. He remains uncertain about her motives but acknowledges the debt owed for her protection. He subsequently saves her from the false legacy’s suction, and she carries him to safety 6 22 44 45 50.
  • Mo Juren — Fellow Seven Mysteries Sect elder whom she distrusts; she is explicitly outside his faction. After confirming evidence of attempted possession, she moves to cripple his cultivation and expel him 21.
  • Mo Caihuan — Addresses her as Martial Aunt Nangong. Nangong Wan personally explains Mo Juren’s death and stands in front of Han Li during Caihuan’s arrival 21.
  • Seven Mysteries Sect Master — Works with him on sect investigations and forbidden-land preparations. Her testimony carries exceptional weight in his judgment of Han Li 22 27 34.
  • Elder Wang — Counters his suspicions about Han Li with physical evidence and a plausible explanation for Han Li’s rapid cultivation 22.
  • Han Yunzhi — Battlefield ally against the Shadow Killer Sect and Black Fiend Cult; both escape the Heaven-Reaching Hall with Han Li 49 50.

Story Role / Major Arcs

Watching Han Li

Nangong Wan first observes Han Li after his dark spiritual root draws the sect’s attention. Following his victory over Li Feiyu, she orders surveillance of both him and the powers surrounding him. At Mo Juren’s banquet, her gaze sharpens when Mo Caihuan draws close to Han Li, then shows apparent amusement after he rejects the proposed match 3 6 9 10.

A mysterious gray-robed elder warns Han Li that Nangong Wan is “no simple character.” She later examines the remnants of one of his battles and recognizes his unusually ruthless methods. When Han Li returns to the sect, he deliberately avoids her spiritual sense 12 13 19.

The Medicine Hall Incident

Nangong Wan interrupts Han Li before he can search the dying Mo Juren’s soul. Initially treating the scene as an attack on an elder, she hears Han Li’s account, examines the formation and incense remnants, and accepts that Mo Juren attempted body possession 20 21.

She protects Han Li when Mo Juren self-detonates, then escorts him to the sect master. Her corroboration helps clear Han Li of blame and redirects scrutiny toward Mo Juren’s possible Black Fiend Cult connections 21 22.

Vengeance and Forbidden-Land Preparations

The massacre of Han Li’s family shocks and angers Nangong Wan. She tries unsuccessfully to stop his departure, then watches his dangerous Foundation Establishment attempt, recognizing the hatred driving him 23 24.

Before the forbidden land opens, she advises him on equipment and environmental hazards, warns him about the Shadow Killer Sect, opens the Illusory Wave Hall for the selected disciples, and supplies Soul-Calming Pills 27 29 33 34.

Blood-Colored Forbidden Land

In Blood-Weeping Gorge, Nangong Wan is trapped by the Black Fiend Cult while defending other cultivators. She initially joins the attacks against Han Li when he moves to seize the Mystic Womb Spirit-Transforming Vine, but then raises an ice wall to help him escape 36.

She later treats his injuries near Swordspine Peak and stops the Feng Family confrontation at the Sword-Washing Pool. After sensing his Netherworld Death Qi, she finds him, purges the affliction, discovers a hidden jade marrow chamber, and guards his successful attempt to reach late Foundation Establishment 40 41 44 45.

Buried Demon Abyss and the False Legacy

Nangong Wan rejoins the Covering Moon Sect before entering the Buried Demon Abyss. She survives the Fiend Qi Infusion trial and organizes a battle formation when the survivors are ambushed 46 48.

Fighting alongside Han Li and Han Yunzhi, she confronts the Shadow Killer Sect elder and attempts to stop the Black Fiend Cult’s young master from opening the legacy gateway. The supposed inheritance proves to be a life-draining trap for an ancient remnant soul. Han Li’s Mysterious Bone Token enables her escape; she then carries the severely injured Han Li out as the Heaven-Reaching Hall collapses 49 50.
