| Bronze Three-Star | 23 24 | Reaches this level within one week through the Nine-Turn Ice Phoenix Art and soul-force-enhancing pills. |
| Bronze Five-Star | 40 | Reaches five-star Bronze through continued cultivation and prepares to advance to Silver. |

Sky Screen Depiction
| Stage / Realm / Level | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Breakthrough — rank unspecified | 22 | After receiving the Nine-Turn Ice Phoenix Art in the broadcast, she cultivates alone and quickly breaks through. The passage does not identify the resulting rank. |
| Silver Five-Star | 110 | Ye Zong explicitly recognizes her advancement to this level. Her integration with the Wind-and-Snow Empress is improving, and Nie Li judges that she has comprehended at least two combat techniques and can defeat a Gold Three-Star Demon Spirit Master. |
| Below Gold Rank | 179 | Still has not reached Gold when Nie Li and Ye Zong exclude her from the impending battle. This is a later confirmation of her limits, not a regression. |
| Black Gold Five-Star — Soul Magic Array enhancement | 225 | She and Nie Li raise their strength to this level through the Soul Magic Array while confronting the Witch Ghost Family. This is an array-assisted combat level, not an independently documented permanent breakthrough. |
| Wind Snow Law combat application | 226 227 | Uses the Wind Snow Spirit Pearl’s supply of law power to launch Wind Ice Spikes, then condenses an enormous ice cone against Wu Yu. |
Background / History
Ye Ziyun grew up as the daughter of Ye Zong, Glory City’s City Lord, and the granddaughter of Ye Mo, its only Legendary Demon Spirit Master before the present timeline’s new breakthroughs. Her mother died during her childhood. Ye Zong’s second wife, Xue Yin, fulfilled a mother’s responsibilities and developed a close relationship with her 16 21.
Her privileged position came with considerable isolation. Ye Zong was occupied with city affairs, while Ye Mo frequently explored the Sacred Ancestor Mountain Range. She had few friends, and her childhood friendship with Xiao Ning’er became distant after Ning’er’s arranged betrothal to Shen Fei 2 16.
Although her soul force ranked first in the Warrior Junior Class, she felt unable to share her father’s responsibilities. Ye Zong’s attention to his adopted son, Ye Han, also left her disappointed and determined to improve. Before Nie Li’s intervention, Ye Han’s superior cultivation overshadowed her efforts 24 49.
The Sky Screen later reveals that Ye Zong’s coldness toward her was partly deliberate. He feared that her gentle disposition and initially limited cultivation would leave her vulnerable to the burdens and political cruelty of the City Lord’s position. By cultivating Ye Han and discouraging the elders from supporting her succession, he hoped to keep her away from those dangers. The present Ye Ziyun finally understands that his apparent favoritism did not mean he loved her less; she also acknowledges that the position itself does not particularly interest her 124.
Her mother’s death, previously believed to have resulted from illness, is subsequently exposed as poisoning. The revelation overwhelms the present Ye Ziyun, who faints in Nie Li’s arms, while Ye Zong is devastated that he had never discovered the truth 172.
Nie Li’s Previous Life
After a beast tide destroyed Glory City, Ye Ziyun led the survivors eastward through the Sacred Ancestor Mountain Range. During their flight, she and Nie Li became husband and wife. She later warned him of danger and took a fatal blow intended for him 2 25.
The Sky Screen publicly reveals this relationship and her death. At the beginning of the story, the present Ye Ziyun has no memories of that life: she must reconcile Nie Li’s attachment to her with feelings she develops independently 1 5 25.
Her encouragement was also essential to Nie Li’s survival. He later reflects that, without her urging him to live on, he would have been unable to endure losing her and might have killed himself to follow her 250.
In a later broadcast, entering the desert causes her Sky Screen counterpart to experience fragments of their former life together, including an intimate memory inside their tent. Nie Li wonders whether she too has been reborn, but this remains his speculation rather than a confirmed explanation. The present Ye Ziyun watches those memories with embarrassment and subsequently recalls the broadcast while becoming more openly affectionate with him 249 250.
Appearance
Ye Ziyun is described as a beautiful young girl with a delicate face 1 2.
- Purple hair — dyed black with Nie Li’s herbal mixture to conceal her identity during the Gulan City expedition 25.
- Butterfly-shaped birthmark — located on the left side of her chest; Nie Li’s knowledge of it causes considerable embarrassment 22.
- Blue Deep Sapphire necklace — Nie Li fastens it around her neck after finding it in the ruins, remarking that it suits her 30.
- Blizzard manifestation — during the Sky Screen battle against the Witch Ghost Family, she stands at the center of swirling ice shards and is likened to a fairy amid the ice and snow 225.
Personality
Ye Ziyun is kindhearted and protective of her friends. After learning about Xiao Ning’er’s original fate, she considers asking her father to intervene and resolves to bring Ning’er into the City Lord’s Mansion even if he objects 4 6.
Her sense of duty sometimes hides her actual preferences. She studies difficult books to prepare for protecting Glory City, rather than simply enjoying them. Her habit of looking out the window reflects a love of adventure and a desire to see the outside world. She is also unmoved by Shen Yue’s attempts to impress her with wealth 5 22.
She is easily embarrassed by Nie Li’s public affection and references to their previous intimacy, but she also recognizes his understanding of her and determination to protect her. By the Gulan City expedition, she admits to herself that she has fallen for him 12 21 28.
Her affection for Xiao Ning’er leads her to consider a relationship involving all three of them rather than treating her friend solely as a rival. Influenced by Xue Yin’s storybooks, she begins encouraging Nie Li and Ning’er’s closeness. This openness does not extend to Huyan Lanruo’s aggressive flirting, which makes her jealous and wary 28 34 38 41.
Her respect for Ye Zong persists despite her loneliness. In the Sky Screen, she defends his absence as the unavoidable consequence of protecting millions of people and explains that her cultivation is intended to help him. She regards him as the person she most respects and admires, blaming her own weakness rather than his responsibilities for her inability to ease his burdens 111.
Her tendency toward self-sacrifice can also complicate her relationships. The Sky Screen shows her deciding that Xiao Ning’er’s devotion makes Ning’er more deserving of Nie Li, then deliberately using hurtful words to drive him away. The present Ye Ziyun is distressed by this behavior and tearfully insists that she has never said those things 169 172 173.
She strongly resents being protected at the expense of participating in Glory City’s defense. Both the broadcast and her present reactions show her anger when Nie Li and Ye Zong keep her away from battles, since she considers fighting for the city a responsibility of the Wind Snow Family 124 179.
She also values kindness received in hardship. At the Heavenly Fortune Tribe, she forces herself to finish the coarse wood flour porridge despite finding it unpleasant, honoring the help Yun Ling and her father had given Nie Li and the survivors in his previous life 196.
Abilities & Skills
Wind Snow Ice Phoenix Soul Sea
- Nie Li identifies her ice phoenix form as one of the strongest Soul Sea forms 21.
- Her constitution suits wind-and-snow cultivation techniques 13 16.
- According to Nie Li, reaching Black Gold would cause the phoenix to hatch and dramatically accelerate her cultivation. No explicit hatching is documented in the supplied passages; her later array-assisted Black Gold combat strength does not itself establish that this transformation occurred 21 225.
Nine-Turn Ice Phoenix Art
- A cultivation art selected by Nie Li to match her Soul Sea; she receives it in the present timeline before its instruction appears on the Sky Screen 13 21.
- Its mantra immediately increases her soul force, and she recognizes it as far stronger than her family’s cultivation arts 13 21.
- At full mastery, it permits rebirth through nirvana as long as the practitioner’s soul remains undestroyed. Ye Ziyun has not demonstrated this ability 21.
Inscription Use
- Seeks Nie Li’s guidance when two Bronze inscription scrolls fail to activate; the faults lie in the inscriptions themselves 16.
- In the Sky Screen depiction, verifies his repaired Raging Wind and Sudden Snow inscription and makes it into a scroll 21.
- Uses a silver-rank inscription scroll during the present expedition’s coordinated attack on the Spirit-Rank Azure-Armed Giant Ape 27.
Demon Spirit Selection
- Nie Li chooses a Gold Rank Iceglass Frost Sparrow with god-tier growth potential for her after she reaches Silver Rank 45 46.
- A Wind Snow Spirit Phoenix with exceptional growth potential is considered as a backup, but Nie Li continues searching for a god-tier spirit 46.
- The treasury passages document the Frost Sparrow’s selection, not a completed integration or demonstrated combat skills with that particular spirit 46.
- Later chapters show her using the Wind Snow Queen, also called the Wind-and-Snow Empress, in both the present timeline and Sky Screen. The supplied passages do not explain the transition from the originally selected Frost Sparrow 70 101 110.
- In the Sky Screen, Nie Li observes steadily improving integration with the Empress and judges that she has comprehended at least two combat techniques. At Silver Five-Star, her combined strength is sufficient to defeat a Gold Three-Star Demon Spirit Master 110.
Wind Snow Law
- Has cultivated Wind Snow Law in the present timeline by the time her companions begin strengthening their own law comprehension 205.
- Her Blizzard is sufficiently difficult to counter that Xiao Ning’er recalls repeatedly losing their sparring matches: frost forms on Ning’er’s skin, and her lightning cannot break it apart 205.
- Her grandfather’s position as the new Wind Snow Spirit God prevents her and other practitioners from comprehending Wind Snow Law in its entirety 205.
- In the Sky Screen, the Wind Snow Spirit Pearl supplies her with a continuous stream of law power during combat 226.
Combat Techniques
- Blizzard — an extensive ice-and-snow attack. In the present battle against the Sacred Family, it freezes over a hundred Silver Rank experts. In the Sky Screen confrontation with the Witch Ghost Family, it fills the battlefield with countless sharp ice shards while Nie Li protects her 70 225.
- Ice barriers and projectiles — her Sky Screen counterpart conjures sheets of ice to force Nie Li out of a room and later uses an ice wall and a large piercing spike against hostile cultivators 172 225.
- Wind Ice Spikes — creates dozens of hovering, intensely cold spikes and launches them together. The attack pierces and freezes enemies, helping eliminate the Witch Ghost Family’s Black Gold Peak attackers 226.
- Giant ice cone — draws on Wind Snow Law to condense a projectile two to three meters thick and several dozen meters long, then launches it at Wu Yu 227.
- Coordinated combat with Nie Li — combines her freezing and ranged attacks with his gravity, defensive positioning, and Light-Dark Primordial Qi Blast. Their cooperation defeats multiple Witch Ghost Family attackers in the broadcast 225 226.
Limitations
- Attempts to learn the Guiding Technique so she can treat Xiao Ning’er in Nie Li’s place, but fails to master it 17.
- Cannot sense demon spirits’ growth potential herself during the treasury search 46.
- The stone coffin’s restriction causes severe head pain when she approaches within three meters, forcing her to retreat 29.
- In the Sky Screen version of the tomb expedition, she tries to reach Nie Li through the restriction and collapses unconscious; he subsequently treats her injuries 55.
- Her early strength remains insufficient for the largest battles. Even when she protests her exclusion, Nie Li and Ye Zong agree to keep her hidden because she has not yet reached Gold Rank in that broadcast 179.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Space Ring — stores her inscription scrolls and writing tools 16.
- Horn Pen — lends it to Nie Li to repair an inscription 16.
- Silver-rank inscription scroll — used against the Spirit-Rank Azure-Armed Giant Ape 27.
- Black Gold Rank Demon Crystals — selects several from the Gulan City treasure haul 28.
- Bone Fang Necklace — taken from a Legend Rank Wind Snow Giant Beast; enhances soul force 28.
- Deep Sapphire necklace — found beside a torn page of the Book of Time and Space Spirit and given to her by Nie Li; increases cultivation speed by at least threefold 30.
- Cultivation pills — soul-force-enhancing pills support her rapid advancement; restorative pills help her recover after reaching Silver 24 45.
- Ice snow spider demon silk — uses it in the Sky Screen to halt her and Nie Li’s fall into the chasm leading to Emperor Kongming’s tomb after his dagger breaks 53.
- Wind Snow Spirit Pearl — given to her by Nie Li in the Sky Screen to aid cultivation. It is later shown within her body and provides law power for her large-scale ice attacks 161 213 226.
Relationships
- Nie Li — Husband in his previous life and developing romantic partner in the present. His knowledge supplies her cultivation art, equipment, and selected demon spirit; she initially has no memories of their marriage 13 25 28 30 46. After his disappearance, she helps search for him and admits that she and Ning’er feared they had lost him 88 89. They become engaged in the present timeline, and she looks forward to a future with both him and Ning’er 176. By the ending, they live together in Glory City with Ning’er and raise their daughter 314.
- Xiao Ning’er — Childhood best friend and fellow cultivator. Ye Ziyun helps secure her stay at the mansion and later encourages her relationship with Nie Li 2 12 28 34. Their Sky Screen counterparts experience a more painful romantic conflict: Ye Ziyun feels guilty about becoming engaged to Nie Li, while Ning’er refuses either pity or surrender 119 232. In the present, they search for Nie Li together and increasingly share his affection; by the ending, both live with him and help raise their daughter 88 163 314.
- Ye Zong — Father. She wants to relieve his burdens; he initially rejects Nie Li’s claims to their marriage but later encourages her to spend time with him 12 24. Learning the protective motive behind his coldness helps her understand his treatment of her, though she remains frustrated when he excludes her from combat 124 179. She grieves his death on the Sky Screen but is relieved that he remains safe in the present; he is still alive and eager to hold his granddaughter at the ending 255 314.
- Ye Mo — Grandfather and Legendary Demon Spirit Master. His frequent expeditions keep him away from home 16. He later becomes the new Wind Snow Spirit God, supports her engagement to Nie Li, and remains part of her family life at the ending 176 177 205 314.
- Xue Yin — Stepmother and trusted maternal figure. Her treasured storybooks influence Ye Ziyun’s approach to romance 21 28.
- Ye Han — Adoptive elder brother and rival for succession. He publicly promises to assist her while privately insisting that both she and the City Lord position belong to him 45 49. The Sky Screen later exposes his attack on Ye Zong with a poisoned dagger. By their confrontation with the Witch Ghost Family in the broadcast, Ye Ziyun has lost every remaining trace of sibling affection for him 175 176 225.
- Shen Yue — Childhood acquaintance and former fiancé in Nie Li’s previous life. She rejects his presumptuous physical familiarity and condemns his attack on Nie Li in the Sky Screen depiction 21 33 49.
- Chen Linjian — Family friend whom she calls “Brother Chen”; leads their Gulan City expedition 19 22 25.
- Ye Xiu — Elder who has watched her grow up and secretly escorts the expedition alongside Chen Fei 4 25.
- Huyan Lanruo — Romantic rival whose persistent advances toward Nie Li provoke her jealousy 38 41.
- Yun Ling and Old Man Yun — Members of the Heavenly Fortune Tribe whose kindness to Nie Li and the refugees in his previous life earns her gratitude. She honors that kindness while visiting their porridge shop 196.
- Daughter — The ending depicts Ye Ziyun, Nie Li, and Xiao Ning’er raising a daughter together. Ye Ziyun relays Ye Zong and Ye Mo’s wish to hold their granddaughter; the supplied passage does not name the child or explicitly distinguish biological maternity 314.
