Chen Shi persuaded Uxie to help him find Arcanine and Electrode before accompanying it to meet the other Emotion Gods and try to control his Psychic power. He then hinted that he would need Uxie’s help to defeat the Five Kings of Hisui, leaving Victini certain Uxie was about to be tricked.
Chen Shi persuaded Uxie to help him confront Hisui’s remaining kings, prompting Cogita to offer him two Plate Projections and end the trial. As Chen Shi and Uxie set off to find the other Emotion Gods, Cogita recognized that his unpredictable actions made him an Anomaly.
Chen Shi’s attempt to control his immense Psychic power with the Lake Guardians triggered a catastrophic eruption that forced Arceus to remove him from Hisui. The blast opened space-time rifts above Lake Verity, bringing the conflict between the Time-Space Duo closer.
Cogita sealed the memories of Legendary Pokémon who had sensed Chen Shi’s Psychic power and planned to unleash the Five Kings of Hisui to start a war. She sent Gardevoir to give Giratina a black crystal and the monitoring mirror while Chen Shi remained away as his power was investigated.
After a year away, Chen Shi returned to the Goodra group with Pokéblocks and asked Big Goo to come live with him. Big Goo agreed, and the group prepared to leave with Chen Shi.
Chen Shi recruited Big Goo and the Goodra group, then learned that the Five Kings of Hisui had gathered Pokémon near Mt. Coronet. As he camped, he reflected on his team’s immense growth and practiced his newly sealed psychic power, while the Lake Guardians remained unconscious from their injuries.
Cogita prepared to unleash a rebellion against the Five Kings of Hisui while sealing off the region. After returning, Chen Shi helped the Zoroark group defeat a force of Arcanine and learned the Five Kings were gathering a vast army to conquer Pokémon groups.
Chen Shi decided to help Zoroark’s pack find a place to hide from the Five Kings War after learning the humans nearby had disappeared. The injured packs gathered to leave with him, and Arcanine asked Chen Shi to protect his pack’s offspring while he and the others prepared to fight for them.
Arcanine led his kin in an attack on Jubilife Village to rescue their offspring, and Chen Shi joined the battle with his Pokémon. After Dragapult defeated most of the Garchomp with the Bond Phenomenon, he entered the Distortion World, startling Giratina.
Chen Shi gathered the Arcanine, Typhlosion, and Braviary displaced by the Five Kings and brought them to Cogita’s home for shelter. He insisted on staying there even after Gardevoir said Cogita was away and told him to leave.
Chen Shi learned that Cogita expected him to confront the Five Kings of Hisui, then urged the clans he had rescued to unite and prepare to fight. Though they feared repeating the devastating Five Kings War, the Pokémon accepted that gathering forces was their only chance.
Chen Shi and his allies sheltered Pokémon offspring in Gardevoir’s mystery realm, then rallied Hisui’s coerced Pokémon against the Five Kings. After returning to Jubilife Village, they watched their movement grow into an army, but expected the Five Kings to attack soon.
Chen Shi prepared Jubilife Village for Kleavor’s approaching army and sent Dragapult into battle to help Victini gather enough victory energy to break through. Dragapult’s repeated trips through the Distortion World enraged Giratina, who forced their way into the world as the army approached.
Giratina retreated into the Distortion World when the Time-Space Duo appeared, while Chen Shi realized he might be able to return home by resolving his mission. He sent Dragapult after Kleavor’s army, but Victini intervened when Dragapult was overwhelmed, and Kleavor recognized Chen Shi and confronted him.
Chen Shi and his allies drove Kleavor’s army away, then fled Jubilife Village as the Temporal-Spatial Rift grew more active. After learning the Time-Space Duo were fighting inside it and nearing their world, Chen Shi asked Dragapult to open a way to meet Giratina, whose furious eyes appeared in the entrance.
Chen Shi explained to Giratina how Dragapult had received authority over the Distortion World and tried to persuade it to stop the Time-Space Duo’s battle. Giratina accepted Chen Shi’s food but rejected his appeal, leaving Chen Shi without a clear argument.
Chen Shi tried to recruit Giratina to stop Palkia and Dialga, but Giratina explained that it could not leave the Distortion World without outside help and initially refused to get involved. Chen Shi then appealed to Giratina’s pride and suggested that stopping the Time-Space Duo could improve its reputation, leaving Giratina to consider the idea.
Chen Shi persuaded Giratina to help stop Palkia and Dialga, but Giratina’s escape required Dragapult to take its place as a prisoner in the Distortion World. Dragapult agreed after Giratina called him a disgrace, and Giratina began preparing while the group waited amid the growing danger in Hisui.
Chen Shi defended his choice to seek Giratina’s help against the Time-Space Duo, but their battle soon tore through the Temporal-Spatial Rift and devastated Hisui. As Chen Shi led fleeing Pokémon toward the region’s edge, a Spacial Rend struck, and he ordered the clans to spread out and rescue the injured.
Chen Shi organized the fleeing Pokémon as the battle between the Time-Space Duo destabilized the present, while Cogita watched events unfold from her hidden courtyard. In the original timeline, Chen Shi’s friends investigated Hisui’s ruins and suspected someone had secretly manipulated the ancient conflict.
With food running low, Chen Shi refused to abandon the weak Pokémon and entered the Distortion World to seek a way to defeat the Five Kings of Hisui and the Time-Space Duo. As Zoroark and the others prepared to face the approaching enemy forces, Giratina emerged from a rift in space.
Chen Shi watched the Hisui factions clash below while Giratina took him into the Temporal-Spatial Rift to confront Dialga and Palkia. Giratina ambushed and overwhelmed the weakened Time-Space Duo, leaving Chen Shi stunned by its mastery of Shadow Force.
As the battle between the Five Kings of Hisui and Giratina’s side raged, Cogita explained to Gardevoir why she wanted the world’s Pokémon to grow stronger together. The young Pokémon’s grief reached Chen Shi through the Temporal-Spatial Rift, and he sent three of his Pokémon into the fight after Mega Evolving them.
After the battle in Hisui ended with Giratina defeating the Time-Space Duo, Chen Shi confronted Cogita and asked to return home. He left with Big Goo, seven remaining Goodra, and orphaned young Pokémon, while Cogita reclaimed the Plate Projections and opened a passage back.
Chen Shi returned through the Space-Time Passage after more than three months away and reunited with his family and friends. He handed out Pokémon from Hisui as local specialties, saved betrothal gifts for Cynthia, and left Steven eagerly expecting his own gift.
