September 13, 2055, League Calendar.

In his room, Cheng Tian's phone alarm rang while he slept soundly with Froakie in his arms. Hearing it, he groggily opened his phone, switched it off, and sank back into sleep.

Fifteen minutes later, Cheng Tian's mother kicked the door open, marched inside, and ripped off his blanket.

Cheng Tian and Froakie jolted awake. "Get up! Look at the time! Are you going to school or not?"

Cheng Tian checked. It was already 7:45! Class started at 8:00. He was about to be late!

With a wail, he scrambled up to get dressed and pack his schoolbag. He ran into the living room with Froakie, where Cheng Tian's Father greeted them with a smile. "Morning, Tian. Morning, Froakie."

"It's not morning anymore! I'm going to be late for school!" Cheng Tian plopped into his seat and started eating the breakfast that had already been prepared.

Beside him, Froakie also began eating from his own bowl. "Yamp!" Yamper, who had nearly finished, raised his head in greeting.

"Froak, froak." Froakie greeted him too. Good morning.

Cheng Tian hurriedly polished off his breakfast, then took out his Great Ball and recalled Froakie. "I'm heading out!" "Be careful on the way."

Cheng Tian unleashed the speed he had used for his middle school thousand-meter PE test and sprinted toward school. After rushing all the way, he thankfully made it inside at 7:55.

The Student Council member on duty frowned, checked the time, and saw that it had not passed 7:55 yet. He turned a blind eye and let Cheng Tian through without trouble.

When Cheng Tian reached the classroom, he saw that many students had already let out their newly acquired Pokémon to play.

Not everyone had a Pokémon out. Some students did not intend to enroll in Pokémon classes, while others had not had time to buy one yet. Still, they all watched the students with Pokémon enviously.

Quite a few people had already gathered around Bai Yun. As they watched him playing with Chimchar, envy showed in their eyes.

Very few people in their class could afford a Starter Pokémon.

Just then, Lin Lin called out, "Cheng Tian, you're here!" Hearing that Cheng Tian had arrived, Bai Yun hurried over with Chimchar, with Lin Lin close behind.

As Bai Yun approached with Chimchar, Chimchar's information appeared in Cheng Tian's mind.

Pokémon: Chimchar Gender: Male Nature: Adamant Ability: Iron Fist Level: 8 Egg Moves: Thunder Punch (lv3), Fire Punch (lv3), Work Up (lv2) Natural moves: Leer (lv3), Ember (lv5), Scratch (lv2) Tutored moves: Focus Energy (lv3)

As expected of the Bai Group's young heir, the Chimchar Bai Yun's father had obtained for him was truly top-quality.

Was this the legendary power of money?

For Chimchar, whose final evolution, Infernape, was a physical attacker, Adamant was the first-choice nature. He even had the hidden ability Iron Fist. Cheng Tian was genuinely envious.

"Chim-char!" Chimchar raised a hand to greet Cheng Tian. Cheng Tian gently stroked his head.

It was very warm.

"Hello, Chimchar." Bai Yun chuckled. "What do you think? Isn't this little guy great?"

Cheng Tian nodded. "He's adorable."

Lin Lin raised her hand with a grin. "My turn, my turn! I've got a Pokémon too!"

As if to answer her words, a little creature emerged from the hood of Lin Lin's sweatshirt, happily munching on a chestnut held in her paws.

"Pachi!" Pachirisu looked curiously at the two boys before her without stopping her chewing. Her little cheeks bulged adorably.

But Cheng Tian was not fooled by her appearance. He knew that the little creature before him was Pachirisu, known as the white demon.

This Pokémon had left a deep impression on Cheng Tian. When he had played Pokémon in his previous life, its combination of Follow Me and Protect had made him suffer quite a bit.

Pokémon: Pachirisu Gender: Female Nature: Impish Ability: Volt Absorb Level: 8 Egg Moves: Defense Curl (lv3), Follow Me (lv4), Fake Tears (lv4), Covet (lv3) Natural moves: Growl (lv5), Thunder Shock (lv2), Quick Attack (lv2), Charm (lv5) Tutored moves: Charge (lv2)

Seeing that both of them had brought out their Pokémon, Cheng Tian released Froakie too.

"Froak, froak!" "Chim-char!" Froakie and Chimchar began chatting. Both little fellows were very polite upon meeting each other, even shaking hands.

"Pachi." When Froakie appeared, Pachirisu jumped out of Lin Lin's hood. After rummaging through her fluffy white tail for quite a while, she took out a chestnut and offered it to Froakie. "Pachi."

"Froak, froak." Froakie accepted it, thought for a moment, then pulled a clump of foam from around his neck and handed it to Pachirisu.

Pachirisu curiously played with the foam in her paws. It was sticky and quite interesting.

"Chim-char." Seeing Pachirisu give Froakie a chestnut, Chimchar called out to show that he wanted one too. Who would have guessed that Pachirisu would turn away and ignore him, only playing with the foam in her paws? "Chim-char." Chimchar looked a little aggrieved. Seeing this, Froakie condensed a spike of water in his little white hand. With a snap, he used Cut to split the chestnut in two and handed half to Chimchar.

"Chim-char!" Chimchar was delighted.

Seeing how well the three little creatures got along, Cheng Tian nodded in satisfaction.

Lin Lin's eyes shone. "Ah! It's a Froakie! Cheng Tian, you're amazing! You actually caught a Froakie!"

"I just got lucky," Cheng Tian replied.

Just then, the bell rang, and their homeroom teacher entered.

The students returned to their seats. Seeing their excited expressions and the Pokémon beside some of them, the homeroom teacher said, "It looks like quite a few of you have already prepared your Pokémon. I hope you get along well with them. However, let me remind you that it's best to recall your Pokémon during class so they don't disrupt the lesson."

At that, everyone took out their Poké Balls and recalled their Pokémon. Cheng Tian was no exception.

The homeroom teacher nodded in satisfaction. "Now, regarding the upcoming exam for students applying to Pokémon Studies, I hope you'll all prepare properly."

"This exam is divided into a written section and a practical battle section. Fifty percent of your written score will count, while your practical battle score will be multiplied by 3.75. Those two figures added together will be your total score."

Hearing that there would also be a practical battle, the students erupted into chatter. Some looked miserable. What were they supposed to do if their Pokémon were not good at fighting?

"Quiet, quiet!" The homeroom teacher restored order, and only then did the classroom settle down. The teacher continued, "Since so many people have applied to Pokémon Studies this time, only half of the applicants will get in."

"Those whose Pokémon aren't good at battling, or who don't know how to battle themselves, will have to put serious effort into the written section."

After explaining all this, the homeroom teacher began the regular lesson. The students below, however, clearly had trouble paying attention. Quiet conversations continued throughout the class.

Cheng Tian was not particularly worried about the practical section. Froakie had plenty of real battle experience, and with him as his trainer, defeating their opponents should not be a problem.

The key lay in the written section. If he was applying for Pokémon Studies, testing him on language, physics, chemistry, and biology would hardly make sense, would it?

So the exam should cover Pokémon knowledge. Although Cheng Tian considered himself very knowledgeable about Pokémon, he could not possibly remember every Pokémon's information, capabilities, and moves without a single mistake. He would still need to review carefully in the days ahead.

The lesson soon passed. Once class ended, the students began talking freely. For some reason, though, Cheng Tian felt a little sleepy.

Since it was break time anyway, Cheng Tian simply put his head down on his desk and went to sleep.

He slept so deeply that heaven and earth faded away, until the math teacher for the next lesson hauled Cheng Tian up with a dark expression.

"Cheng Tian, why don't you tell me exactly what you were dreaming about?" the math teacher asked angrily. Naturally, Cheng Tian could only respond meekly. "You! You're already at the bottom of the class in math, and you still sleep during lessons. If you don't do poorly, who will?"

Cheng Tian was notorious for being bad at math. Whether the questions were easy or difficult, he could only score twenty-something points.

Cheng Tian grumbled inwardly, It's not my fault I'm bad at math. Seriously, in everyday life, who goes out to buy groceries and has to build a coordinate system for a function just to figure out where the vegetable stall is?

Despite these wild thoughts, he dared not let them show. He could only obediently stand for the entire lesson.

After class, Bai Yun came over to chat. "Sleeping in math again? You're really something. What were you doing at home last night?"

Cheng Tian replied irritably, "I fell asleep during break. How was I supposed to know I'd sleep right through into class? And you didn't even wake me."

Bai Yun countered as though it were perfectly reasonable. "You were sleeping so soundly that I couldn't bear to wake you."

While the two were talking, a commotion suddenly broke out in the corridor. Many students ran out of their classrooms to look.

Lin Lin also returned from outside. "Bai Yun, Cheng Tian, come and look! There's a transfer student!"

Hearing this, Cheng Tian cut their conversation short. "Come on, let's take a look."

The corridor was already packed shoulder to shoulder. The three of them decided to take a detour up one floor, where they could get a better view of what was happening.

When they reached the upper floor, they saw a beautiful girl standing outside a classroom two rooms down from theirs. In front of her, a teacher was speaking to a man with utmost deference.

The people around her were clearly drawn to the girl. They praised her beauty, yet did not dare approach.

"Holy crap, long, straight black hair! How can she be that pretty?!" Bai Yun's eyes widened.

Lin Lin pouted in displeasure. "What are you staring at? No matter how pretty she is, can she be prettier than me?" Bai Yun, however, paid her no attention.

Angrily, Lin Lin covered Bai Yun's eyes. "You're not allowed to look!"

"Hey, what are you doing? What's wrong with letting me look?" Bai Yun struggled. "You're just not allowed to!"

While the two squabbled, Cheng Tian froze in place.

There was only one reason: the girl before him was the very girl who had helped him at the Toll Booth!

She was actually a transfer student???

At that moment, the girl surrounded by the crowd seemed to sense something. She looked toward the nearby floor and spotted that familiar face.

The girl was startled too.

It's him? He actually goes to school here?

A brilliant smile curved the girl's lips.

How interesting~

Bai Yun finally broke free of Lin Lin and saw this. He looked suspiciously at Cheng Tian. "Hey, A-Tian, why do I get the feeling that girl is looking at you?"

Lin Lin nodded in agreement. "It does look like she's looking at Cheng Tian."

Cheng Tian explained helplessly, "You might not believe this, but when I was on my way back after catching Froakie over the weekend, I happened to meet that girl at the Toll Booth. She was the one who helped me get the barrier opened."

Bai Yun and Lin Lin looked thoughtful. "So that's what happened."

Cheng Tian was surprised. "You actually believe me?"

Bai Yun looked as though it were obvious. "Of course we do. Honestly, with your looks, if you hadn't met before, I wouldn't believe that girl would be attracted to you." Lin Lin nodded firmly too.

Cheng Tian flew into a rage. "What's wrong with my looks? Aren't I better-looking than you?" As he spoke, he raised his fists, ready to punch Bai Yun.

"Hey, hey, hey, easy! Getting angry is bad for your health."

While the three fooled around, the bell rang again. Reluctantly, the students in the corridor slowly returned to their classrooms, looking back three times with every step.

Cheng Tian and his friends were no exception. As they came downstairs and headed back to their classroom, they got a closer look at the girl.

Cheng Tian walked at the back. Just before he entered the classroom, he suddenly saw the girl turn toward him and seemingly mouth three words.

Cheng Tian's pupils widened, and he froze on the spot. Only when the teacher called to him from inside did he snap out of it and hurry in.

Once seated, Cheng Tian could not calm down.

The girl just now seemed to have said...

You're so cute...

Holy crap, what am I thinking? I'm not some delusional creep who thinks every girl likes him! Cheng Tian hurriedly shook his head, despising himself for that thought. Even so, he remained distracted throughout the lesson.

During the next break, Bai Yun went out for a wander. When he returned, he told Cheng Tian and Lin Lin excitedly, "I asked around. Apparently, that girl's name is Su Han. She transferred here from Magic City!"

Lin Lin looked puzzled. "Why would she transfer here from Magic City? Isn't it better there?"

Bai Yun shrugged. "How would I know? But look at how respectfully that teacher treated that man. She must have quite a background. She might even be some wealthy heiress."
