The loud blast of a ship's horn jolted Yong awake. Opening his eyes to the bright sunshine outside the window, he sat up.
"Nee~~~!"
"Thump!"
The little Pokémon launched a Tackle straight into his arms.
"Good morning, Mew!"
"Mee-nee~!"
Greeting him happily, Mew darted around the room with an Oran Berry in its arms.
Yong got out of bed, washed up, and headed downstairs with Mew.
As an island, Akala Island had enormous docks and ports on three sides, with only its northern coast blocked by a massive volcano. For the island's residents, the morning blasts of ships' horns were the bells that marked the start of a new day.
In town, the early risers had already begun their daily work.
Downstairs in the living room, Kiawe and Cynthia sat chatting while Larvesta sprawled lazily on the sofa, dozing.
"Morning, Yong!"
Kiawe greeted him with a smile.
"How did you sleep? Settling in all right?"
"Great! I've pretty much recovered now. Thanks for taking care of me, Kiawe!"
Yong sat down beside Cynthia. A Poliwhirl came over carrying a glass of milk and a few slices of Cheese Bread, then set them on the table.
"Whi-sha!"
Looking at the smiling Poliwhirl, which even had a pink apron tied around its belly, Yong felt both grateful and amused.
"Thanks for all your hard work, Poliwhirl! Thank you!"
"Whi-sha!"
Quite pleased with Yong's thanks, Poliwhirl returned to the kitchen.
Kiawe chuckled.
"This one really enjoys housework, but actually dislikes battling, so it stays home and helps me look after the place."
Yong took a sip of warm milk, savoring the warmth spreading through him and the delicious flavor lingering in his mouth, then nodded with a smile.
"You respect your Pokémon's wishes. Kiawe, you're a proper Trainer!"
