Yong recalled Baltoy into a Pokémon Ball, then handed it over to Nurse Joy along with Steelix and the others. Holding the Pokémon egg, he went to the Video Phone Booth and called home.
The call connected quickly. His father Shiyan Toru's face appeared on the screen, immediately followed by a furious roar.
"You little brat! You've gone this long without contacting home again! Think you're all grown up now, do you?! Huh?"
Yong answered with a wry smile.
"Come on, Dad! I was traveling, and there wasn't a Pokémon Center around, so I couldn't contact you!"
"Where did you go that took so long?"
Shiyan Toru looked at his son in confusion.
"Uh... I went to the Great Desert..."
"!!"
I'm done for, Yong thought.
Sure enough, the very next second-
"You little brat! How dare you go somewhere that dangerous?! What if you couldn't get out? You're driving me mad!"
Clearly, his father was genuinely angry.
"Do you know how many people go missing in the Great Desert every year?!"
"Come on, Dad! I made it out just fine, didn't I? Don't worry about me. Look, nothing happened!"
Yong hurried to reassure him, even turning around on the spot to show that he was perfectly healthy.
"That was sheer luck, you little brat. I'm telling you..."
Before he could finish, Yong interrupted him.
"I know, I know. Dad, there's something I need to tell you..."
He quietly told Shiyan Toru about the ancient Pokémon fossils. He didn't mention bringing them out of the Mirage Tower, only saying that he had dug them up in some ruins. He also mentioned that he had caught Trapinch and Baltoy.
Shiyan Toru was somewhat suspicious, but seeing his son's resolute gaze, he reluctantly believed him.
"Hmm... This really is an important matter..."
