Background / History
Aggron was born into the colony led by a powerful male Aggron in Rusturf Tunnel. His father allowed Trainers to approach because he understood how difficult it was for wild Pokémon to reach higher levels without human help. Yong earned permission to choose a child when Steelix’s Iron Tail hurt the leader and forced him to step back 32.
Yong selected the brave Aron who had inherited both Head Smash and Dragon Rush. Rather than immediately capturing him, Yong offered to become his partner and promised that they would someday surpass his father together. Aron accepted, entered a Luxury Ball voluntarily, and then returned to nuzzle his father goodbye, promising to grow stronger and visit again 32 33.
His early development emphasized high-quality iron ore, other minerals, physical strength, and defense. Yong also introduced gradual water training, helping him overcome his fear of water. When his progress lagged behind the team, Yong used the prospect of sending him home to motivate him; Aron responded by declaring his intention to defeat his father and accepting a training load equal to his own body weight 96 107 130 152.
After evolving into Aggron, he returned with Yong to his former home. The colony had relocated to avoid increasing numbers of Trainers, but Aggron found the familiar group deep underground. His father agreed to train him, passing on battle experience and deeper applications of Steel-type energy 212 280 306 410.
Appearance
Aggron is an exceptionally large, upright steel beast with heavy silver-white armor, sky-blue eyes, and a thick black tail 212 248.
- Head: A pointed upper armor plate, two pairs of forehead openings, and two long horns emerging from the front pair 212.
- Mouth: Sharp, toothlike projections 212.
- Limbs: Powerful three-digit hands and feet encircled by silver steel bands 212.
- Later armor: Savage-looking protrusions cover his joints; electrical arcs accompany his increasingly powerful field 876.
Recorded Size
| Chapter | Height | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| 212 | 3.6 m | 580 kg |
| 470 | 3.8 m | 610 kg |
| 670 | 4.2 m | 780 kg |
| 876 | 4.5 m | 790 kg |
| 1023 | 5.1 m | 1,080 kg |
Mega Aggron
- Forehead horns shorten, while a blade-like nasal horn and a downward-pointing jaw spike appear 1026.
- Shoulder armor becomes light gray; its upper protrusions lengthen and curve inward 1026.
- Limb bands lengthen and gain additional spikes 1026.
- His tail thickens and gains three enormous silver-gray steel bands 1026.
Personality
Aggron is proud, boisterous, hot-tempered, and eager to fight. He once regarded himself as the team’s third-strongest member and its “big brother,” making Larvesta’s earlier Force Domain breakthrough a serious blow to his pride. Yong also considered him the partner who took training least seriously 406 410 600.
His early confidence depended heavily on overpowering opponents. Against Cynthia’s Milotic, he panicked when trapped and cut off from Yong’s commands. Yong identified restlessness, impulsiveness, and insufficient experience under pressure as his main weaknesses, then arranged repeated sparring with Swampert to strengthen his resolve 486 517.
After forming his Force Domain, Aggron became stricter with himself and voluntarily remained in the Magnetic Storm Area to refine his power. By the conference training period, he was no longer lazy or childish, although Yong later still considered him so unyielding that excessive rigidity could become a weakness 449 598 919.
Outside battle, he can act as a responsible mediator. Alongside Cynthia’s Garchomp, he separated fighting Pokémon, identified the pranksters responsible, and required apologies and restitution rather than allowing the dispute to continue 1112.
Abilities & Skills
Rock Head
Rock Head prevents recoil damage from Aggron’s own moves 1023.
- Supports his use of powerful charging attacks, including inherited Head Smash and learned Double-Edge 212 1023.
- Can be affected by Ability suppression 32 1023.
Physical Strength and Defense
His training builds around an unusually massive physique, armored body, and powerful close-range attacks 107 248.
- Carnivine’s Grass Knot vines snap when they fail to move him 248.
- He catches opponents’ limbs or weapons to restrict their movement, including Bisharp’s arms and Marowak’s bone club 548 880.
- He can lift and throw a boulder large enough to hollow out a third of a battlefield 550.
- Against Bisharp, he rises almost unscathed after deliberately receiving a super-effective Brick Break, demonstrating resistance and recovery 548.
- His strength is supported by the system talent Rock Solid 878.
Steel Rampage Aura
Aggron’s Force Domain emphasizes defense and restraint rather than purely offensive pressure 470 507.
- Layers blue-green energy over his body to improve defense and strengthen his physique 507.
- Compresses surrounding air into an Air Wall or armor-like coating 497 1031.
- Uses restraint and gravity-induced deceleration to interfere with an opponent’s movement 550.
- His air armor deflects Weavile’s Phantom Frost strikes during the charge toward Abomasnow 514.
- Eventually gathers airborne Steel-type energy into protective armor almost passively 1101.
- Cannot be advanced directly with Training Points; it requires personal effort, deeper energy understanding, and increased strength 507.
- Its protection is not inexhaustible: sustained exchanges with Drake’s Salamence collapse the Air Wall and severely deplete the surrounding energy shell 1026.
Origin Power
Aggron develops rock origin, earth origin, and steel origin, allowing him to combine several layers of power with his Force Domain 958 959.
- Rock-origin power strengthens Rock Slide enough to crack Turtonator’s shell and interrupt Shell Smash 877.
- Defense-focused steel origin, described as Alloy Power, reinforces his armor alongside the Air Wall and electrical barriers 878.
- Steel origin extremity follows the defensive path of “steel’s resolve”, allowing him to resist Salamence’s powerful Dragon-origin attacks 1023 1025.
Electromagnetic Force and Super Electro-Steel Cannon
Aggron acquires control over electromagnetic force during his development on Iron Island and uses it to support both defense and fusion attacks 517 598.
- Super Electro-Steel Cannon combines Steel-, Electric-, and Rock-type energy 670.
- Lock-On and an electromagnetic field help restrain the target while he gathers power 670.
- The completed attack defeats Anabel’s Salamence in the finals 670.
- Later use incorporates rock and earth power to stabilize increasingly volatile Steel-type energy and electricity 1025.
- Changes in his energy levels can disrupt the balance needed to use the fusion technique 881.
Move Repertoire

| Close combat | Iron Tail, Metal Claw, Iron Head, Superpower, Mega Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder Punch, and Brick Break 470 497 1102 |
| Rock attacks and terrain control | Rock Slide, Rock Tomb, Stone Edge, Sand Tomb, and Stealth Rock 497 1023 |
| Ground attacks | Bulldoze, Earthquake, and Earth Power 470 497 |
| Ranged coverage | Hydro Pump, Hyper Beam, Thunderbolt, Dark Pulse, Flamethrower, Ice Beam, and Flash Cannon 470 497 880 975 |
| Defense and disruption | Protect, Harden, Iron Defense, Metal Sound, Roar, and Thunder Wave 470 486 |
| Inherited Dragon move | Dragon Rush, listed at expert proficiency in later scans 1023 |
Battle Limitations
- Fighting-, Ground-, and Water-type attacks are identified as his principal weaknesses 248.
- Powerful water control can lift him off the ground, restrict movement, and exhaust him, as demonstrated by Milotic’s Surf whirlpool 486.
- Ground-type attacks such as Mud Shot remain effective and can slow him even after his steel-origin breakthrough 1031.
- Poison attacks and Toxic Spikes have no effect on him in the documented battles 306 406 1031.
- Later training specifically targets short-range movement and reaction speed instead of relying entirely on durability 975.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Luxury Ball — The Poké Ball he voluntarily entered when joining Yong 33.
- Forced-training device — Used during his Aron training; Yong raises its load to 120 kg, equal to his body weight at the time 152.
- Aggron Mega Stone — Given to him for conference preparation; later enables his documented Mega Evolution with Yong 598 1026.
- Lapis lazuli — Used for physical-control training; absorbed material also contributes to his first-stage Force Domain stabilization 410 507.
- Mysterious substance from the Magnetic Storm Area — Strengthens armor, energy perception, and his mental connection with Yong. His absorption rate gradually slows from daily use to one piece every several days 434.
- Stone Plate — Supports level growth and Rock-type energy comprehension 877 881.
- Meteoric Steel Core-Origin Wonderstone — A held item that accelerates energy acquisition and comprehension, helping him reach Lv79 and steel origin extremity 1023.
Relationships
- Yong — Trainer and close partner. Their heart-to-heart connection helps restore Aggron’s composure in battle and later enables Mega Evolution. Yong’s promise to make him stronger than his father remains a recurring motivation 33 486 598 1026.
- Aggron leader — Father and leader of his original colony; a separate individual from Big White. Entrusts him to Yong, then later provides advanced training 32 33 280.
- Steelix — Senior teammate and mentor. Helps teach Rock Slide, advises him on Force Domain control and fusion techniques, and assists in training his sibling 49 517 603 835.
- Swampert — Mentor and demanding sparring partner. Yong assigns repeated battles against Swampert to improve Aggron’s will and composure under pressure 517.
- Lunatone — Interpreter associated with his father’s colony; explains the leader’s challenge and translates Aron’s farewell promise 32 33.
- Grant’s Aggron — Sibling originally given to Grant as an Aron hatchling. Big White and Steelix help unlock its potential through training 835.
- Cynthia’s Garchomp — Fellow mediator during a dispute among their companions; together they require apologies and construction of a tree house for Komala 1112.

Trivia
- He initially fails to learn Flamethrower from a TM, but uses it in a later training session 497 975.
- His reported levels are inconsistent: Chapter 881 announces Lv75, Chapter 958 lists Lv74, and Chapter 962 announces Lv75 again 881 958 962.
- Elite Four-tier wording also varies: Chapter 958 explicitly describes him as fully advanced to that tier, while Chapter 1101 later says he has “just entered” it 958 1101.
