Ling Dang comes from a commoner family that fled the Heaven Dou border during the wars between Heaven Dou and Star Luo. They settled in Kindling Village, a comparatively recent settlement. Her household cares for ten younger children, ranging from about one to ten years old; most are relatives whose parents died in the war, while several are adopted war orphans 165.

Her family’s poverty severely restricted her cultivation. Most of her monthly stipend went toward supporting the children, and her father was bedridden with injuries and missing legs. Although Elite Class students received additional subsidies from Liu Erlong, Ling Dang’s ordinary aptitude and limited funds left her struggling to advance 107 161 165.

When Zhu Zhuqing arrived at Blue Tyrant Academy, Ling Dang was at risk of losing her Elite Class place. She challenged Zhu Zhuqing to prove that she deserved to remain, declaring her wish to protect those she cared about. Using Thorn Guard, she endured a flat-tipped lightning arrow that pushed her shield backward more than ten meters. Appearance

Ling Dang initially appears as a petite girl approximately one and a half meters tall, with flushed cheeks and a pink ponytail. After receiving the Sacred Barbarian Bull’s sacrifice, she emerges noticeably taller, with long pink hair, a round face, and a slender figure; her existing clothes no longer fit properly 106 160.

Personality

Ling Dang’s central motivation is protection rather than defeating opponents. She challenges Zhu Zhuqing despite her classmates’ doubts and later chooses an offensive Soul Beast because she fears she cannot adequately protect both support members of the team with defense alone 107 158.

She is compassionate but uncomfortable with violence. While obtaining her third ring, she apologizes repeatedly to the Sacred Barbarian Bull and cannot bring herself to kill it cleanly. Zi Li’s reminder that strength is necessary to defend her family and companions helps her regain her resolve 158 159.

Initially burdened by inferiority, Ling Dang explicitly credits Zhu Zhuqing with helping her gain recognition and confidence. Her trust becomes strong enough that she cultivates instead of anxiously watching Zhu Zhuqing’s match against Yu Tianxin. She nevertheless remains somewhat afraid of Liu Erlong and hesitates to approach the arena’s chip counter while the dean is causing a scene 150 178 180.
