Background / History
In his previous life, Tang San was a Tang Sect outer disciple who created the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus. He retains the sect’s secret techniques after rebirth and hopes to spread the Tang Sect’s might in his new world 1 22 25.
He grows up in Holy Soul Village with Tang Hao. Because his father spends much of his time drinking and sleeping, Old Jack frequently looks after him. Tang San comes to regard the village chief as a grandfather and sometimes wishes he had been adopted by him, as Qin Chao was 2 17.
Qin Chao repeatedly steals Tang San’s firewood and snacks while testing the Qi Fortune Seizure System. These incidents initially seem like childish bullying to Tang San, but become sources of deeper resentment once Qin Chao eclipses him during martial soul awakening 1 2.
Personality
Tang San is proud of his previous-life achievements and regards his Tang Sect techniques as the foundation of his future success. Qin Chao’s superior cultivation and access to powerful teachers gradually undermine that confidence, eventually making him question whether his inherited advantages will be enough 1 24 25.
He usually presents himself as calm, courteous, and unusually mature. Old Jack notices how sharply his behavior changes when jealousy takes hold: he becomes demanding over the academy place and briefly directs killing intent toward Qin Chao. He repeatedly suppresses these reactions rather than openly acknowledging them 2 18 24.
His experience across two lives makes him guarded toward unsolicited help. He questions Qin Chao’s motives when offered cultivation information and initially suspects Yu Xiaogang’s unusually eager offer of discipleship 3 18.
Although he continues caring for Yu Xiaogang after the forest incident, he knowingly accepts credit for the treatment Qin Chao provided, claiming that Tang Hao taught him how to treat venomous wounds 25.
Abilities & Skills
Twin Martial Souls
- Possesses Blue Silver Grass and a second, unnamed martial soul 1 17.
- Yu Xiaogang deduces his twin martial souls from the combination of Blue Silver Grass and innate full soul power 17.
- Absorbs the Mandala Snake’s soul ring into Blue Silver Grass 23.
Mysterious Heaven Skill
- Cultivates internal energy through this Tang Sect art 3.
- Initially cannot advance further; after learning about soul rings, he identifies their requirement as the probable cause of the blockage 3.
- Channels its internal energy into the weakened Yu Xiaogang to help him recover 25.
Purple Demon Eye
- Practices the technique on the mountaintop near Holy Soul Village 3.
- Activates it to its limit when the Mandala Snake approaches 22.
- Sees the forest battle clearly enough to recognize Qin Chao as the supposedly unidentified rescuer 24.
Ghost Shadow Perplexing Track
- Uses this movement technique to leap onto the Mandala Snake’s head 22.
- Maneuvers across the snake’s slippery body while trapped within Qin Chao’s Heaven and Earth Tower; the technique performs especially well in the confined space 22.
Hidden Weapons
- Created the Buddha’s Fury Tang Lotus as an outer disciple in his previous life 1.
- Uses white radishes as improvised projectiles to delay the Mandala Snake while evading its attacks 22.
- Fails to finish the Silent Sleeve Arrow before his first soul-ring hunt because Qin Chao’s story diverts him into searching the nearby hill for soul beasts 22.
Poison and Medicinal Knowledge
- His Tang Sect training places his poison knowledge well ahead of Qin Chao’s early studies 21.
- Immediately identifies the aromatic silk beauty and recognizes it as an immortal-grade medicinal herb 24.
Equipment / Weapons / Items
- Dagger / short sword — The blade used to kill the Mandala Snake through its mouth and into its brain; described as one foot and two inches long 22.
- Iron mother — Material intended for the Silent Sleeve Arrow, still unworked into the finished weapon when he enters the Soul Hunting Forest 22.
- White radishes — Improvised ammunition during the Mandala Snake pursuit; his supply runs out before the danger is resolved 22.
Relationships
- Tang Hao — Father. His drinking and inactivity leave Old Jack providing much of Tang San’s everyday support. Tang San nevertheless seeks his permission to leave for school 2.
- Old Jack — Caretaker and grandfather figure. Offers him Holy Soul Village’s work-study place, though Tang San resents the attention Jack gives Qin Chao 2 17.
- Qin Chao — Childhood bully, rival, and covert saboteur. Qin Chao targets his opportunities to gain fortune points; Tang San’s jealousy deepens as the gap between their cultivation grows 1 3 24 25.
- Yu Xiaogang / Grandmaster — Teacher. Tang San accepts him for his theoretical knowledge, but the dangerous first-ring hunt and comparison with Qin Chao’s teachers plant doubts about his suitability 18 22 24.
- Su Yuntao — Awakening examiner. Dismisses Blue Silver Grass and cannot test Tang San’s soul power after Qin Chao breaks the crystal 1.
- Hu Liena — Arrives with Qin Chao during the Mandala Snake encounter 22 24.
Story Role / Major Arcs
Disrupted Awakening
- Qin Chao awakens first and breaks the soul-power testing crystal, leaving Tang San’s innate full soul power undetected 1 3.
- Old Jack still offers Tang San the village’s work-study place because Qin Chao is leaving for Spirit Hall 2.
- This interference earns Qin Chao his first five fortune points 2.
Enrollment and Discipleship
- Enters Nuoding Academy as a work-study student 17 18.
- Initially gives Yu Xiaogang an ambiguous answer, then decides to become his disciple after considering his knowledge of martial souls 18.
- Yu Xiaogang sees Tang San as an opportunity to validate his theories by raising a disciple capable of surpassing Spirit Hall’s young talents 17.
First Soul-Ring Hunt
- Accompanies Yu Xiaogang into the Soul Hunting Forest, where netherworld wolves attack their camp and a Mandala Snake subsequently threatens them 21 22.
- Without the unfinished Silent Sleeve Arrow, nearly dies after exhausting his improvised projectiles 22.
- Qin Chao attempts to prevent him from securing the kill, but the Heaven and Earth Tower instead helps create the opening Tang San uses to slay the snake 22.
- Successfully absorbs the snake’s soul ring despite the violent energy released during absorption 23 24.
Doubts About Grandmaster
- Learns that Qin Chao has two Titled Douluo teachers, exceptional soul rings, and access to an immortal-grade herb 24.
- Begins questioning Yu Xiaogang’s strength and the reliability of his theories; Qin Chao gains fifteen fortune points from provoking these doubts 24.
- Remains beside his teacher and supplies internal energy, but takes credit for Qin Chao’s antidote treatment 25.
