As they spoke, a fierce gust of wind laden with sand and dust swept over them. Kite instinctively reached up to hold his hat in place.
Cordis basked in the wind with a look of pleasure and murmured, "A breeze. The goddess of fortune is smiling on me."
After waving goodbye to Ponzu and the others, the four headed toward the place she had mentioned. They ran for over half an hour before Cordis abruptly stopped.
He pointed at a cliff not far away and said quietly, "This is the place. We were attacked by someone with a spider's body."
Gon glanced at the headless corpse, then searched the surrounding area until he found the man's head. He put it back in place and bowed several times with a sorrowful expression.
Kite, however, seemed to have been drawn to something else.
He bent down, picked something up from the ground, and examined it closely. Cordis came over to look as well.
Seeing that it was only an empty shell casing, he looked puzzled.
Killua, who had joined them at some point, exclaimed in surprise, "Didn't they say firearms weren't allowed here?"
Kite replied, "If this country's rulers want to exercise true control, drugs alone certainly won't be enough."
"That was to be expected. What worries me now is that those Chimera Ants may have already learned how to use firearms."
Gon hurriedly asked, "Are Chimera Ants really that good at learning?"
Cordis stared blankly at the three of them. "Chimera Ants? What are those? Don't tell me those guys turned into that from ants." He burst out laughing.
Even he seemed to find the idea absurd.
But when Cordis looked at them again and saw how serious all three were, his smile faded. He murmured in disbelief,
"No way. That
