After seeing this, Kite leaped behind Gon and Killua and summoned Crazy Slots. The roulette wheel in its mouth spun.
It finally stopped on the number two.
Then Crazy Slots spat out an enormous scythe. Kite gripped it in one hand and said quietly, "Get as low as you can."
The other three nodded and lowered themselves in unison.
Once they had done so, Kite spun the scythe in his hand, then slashed forward with all his strength. A flash of blade light swept past.
As the light passed, the scythe in Kite's hand vanished. The Chimera Ants that had been flapping their wings wildly slowly stopped moving, then were all severed at the waist.
Unfortunately, none of the surrounding trees escaped being cut down either.
In an instant, Kite's scythe cleared a vast swath of woodland, accompanied by the Chimera Ant corpses slowly falling to the ground.
With all the enemies dealt with, everyone slowed their pace. As it happened, the edge of the woods was just a short distance ahead.
As they slowly approached the exit, Cordis clasped his hands behind his back, unable to shake the tightness in his chest. After taking two deep breaths, he said quietly to Kite,
"There are three more Chimera Ants outside. They're probably waiting for us. Looks like they arranged this ambush too."
"Those Chimera Ants already know why we're here."
Kite nodded, his hand unconsciously tightening into a fist. At some point, his palm had become drenched in sweat. Like Cordis, he had a bad feeling that refused to leave him.
The closer they got to the nest, the stronger their enemies would become.
He had no idea what they would face next.
He only hoped it would not be too terrible.
After they left this stretch of forest, the
